To whomever may be interested: The easter "whipping" part may seem creepy without a proper context. The whips are supposed to be hand made of braided, freshly cut, very thin, willow branches by the very guy that is using it. The "whipping" should not really hurt, maybe just like sting a tiniest bit and the guy is supposed to recite one of many traditional short easter poems/verses. It is normally done between friends or people that at least know and care about each other. It is not like random women are getting ambushed by strangers and whipped into submission. The whipping symbolizes transfer of the youth and fertility of the willow branches onto the girl as a kind of pagan playful blessing. The gal should then tie a ribbon at the end of the boys "whip" and give him a hand painted (usually intricately) hard boiled egg/s (also fertility symbol) and/or something sweet (small pastries, chocolate) or a small shot of alcohol as a token of appreciation. On the next day the roles reverse and girls go out chasing boys - here the customs vary - they either splash cold water on boys or "whip" them as well. Generally it is like traditional social event, that was originally meant to be enjoyable, celebratory and also served a good purpose of letting the boys of the village meet and get into courteous/playful contact with the gals. Lot of girls would actually be sad if they were to be left out as it would telegraph that nobody is really interested in them. Overall I loved the interview. The responses sound genuine, without contempt or the usual obnoxiousness that I have learned to expect from tourists and most of them are quite spot on. Also somebody please tell the girl in the interview that I want to marry her, thank you :-))
impressive Ř
Fellow Slovak here. Hello to my Czech bros. We share a lot of traditions. Also Kofola > Cola.
Where ma Czech bros at
Its a CENTRAL Europe
sure bro, if you think so...
ř
It's so nice to see somebody from the abroad to talk so well about my homeland. (There is only one thing in which I would like to correct you - we are not eastern european country, but Central European country. I know it's kinda confusing, because we used to be a part of the "eastern bloc", but geographicaly even back then we still were a coutry dislocated in Central Europe..just for you to know. ...we are a bit hypersensitive about this, because of the communism. Simply telling us that we are eastern is almost as bad as if you told us that our beer sucks :D )
I think that Communism is not really the reason why Czechs are not very religious. Maybe it's because it used be a Protestant country until a lost battle in the 17th century after which Catholicism was forced. People don't tend to like that.
We swapped religiosity for culture and critical mind. We were always rebels.
They have a long history of being in several absolutist regimes based on Catholicism. And having several revolutions to become atheist
Někdo Čech
We as Czechs are also famous for our excessive complaining. :)
She has such a sweet and calming voice❤️❤️
The reason why czechs are most atheistic country go far more deep in history, centuries of religious opression forced people to hate catholicism or create own version like hussites do. Events like this change how people see religion because when its become source of problems in society the people become more and more flegmatic about it. Communist opression maybe cause some serious damage to catholic structures but its only speed up growing of atheism not causing him.
She is so cute! 😊
Přesně tak bez pohádek to o Vánocích nejde, Popelka na Šťedrý den a Mrazík na Silvestra to už je tradice. :D
I wish, here in Czech, would be more people like you. The way how you speak and choose non-offensive words about negative areas, thats lovely how you can use language. People out there cannot behave. 😥
We in Lithuania have the same Easter tradition whiping with willow rod. It is common to say then "It's not me it is willow whipping you" :D
What a lovely lady! Thanks for the video.
Re communism it's reversed - only few countries are worse off now than they were during the communism (eg. Ukraine, Moldova, mayby -stan countries). Majority of eastern block countries are far better off nowdays
I want to live in Czechia. It's like a paradise
it isnt but thank you
I don't think is a Paradise is full of tourism and they doesn't have a sea is cold paradise Thailand Indonesia Latin America Bahamas hahaha is just another country of Europe Czech with more pretty construction
It really is! Come for a visit :-)
LOL NO, you don't.
😂😂😂paradise? 😂😂...try company
(Don't meant to be rude just...i live there so i know a bit )
You forgot to mention that the Czechs gave you your money. The Dollar was created in Jachymov plus Marie Currie made her Noble prize winning discoveries in the same city.
She’s really cute.
I wouldn't say the attitude to religion is relict of communism. Take a look to Poland with same history and you will see very different relation to religion. I guess, czechs are probably a bit more realistic or science focused than rest of Europe. :-)
your pronounciation of "ř" is excellent :) !
Kofola >>>>>>>>>>>>> Cola
Damn, she pronounced Ř perfectly!
Didn't expect so many cases of what I call Czechenglish in the comments lol
I like her knowledge and way how she´s describing that. What´s she is saying is correct and couldn´t describe it better by myself.
I just fell in love. Greetings from Budejovice.
She is so pretty that she must by the Czech origin :-)
Lady, u nailed the Ř.
Beer is cheaper than water i here btw XD
Oh, the Christmas potato salad tradition was adopted from Russia - it's a simplified version of Russian "Stolichnyi" salad eaten at Christmas / New Year celebrations. There's tons of mayo in it, so nobody really likes to eat it in summer. The carp tradition is fairly recent, too; the _original_ medieval Czech Christmas food is "černý Kuba" (lit. "black Jack"), which consists of groats boiled with dried forest mushrooms, then baked with marjoram, garlic and (optionally) a generous amount of pork lard / bacon.
By the way, mushrooms... Czech passion for mushroom hunting is a chapter all by itself. Right now, in my pantry, there's no less than three five-liter bottles full of dried mushrooms. And I'm only collecting boletes, not those weird technicolor things like russulas and milkcaps. ;)
Communism does not really have much to do with Czechs not being religious. It would probably be the same if there was no communism at all. I supposed it has much more to do with the 30 years war and the country being industrialized substantially longer than other ex-Communist countries.
Well, I suppose they have a share, but not big.
Really interesting to see an outside perspective on what life is like in m country!
Sounds like we need to adopt some of their traditions 🤣
She is so sweet and cute :)
coming from 5 languages spoken, Czech is hard, only if you are not a slavic language speaker. if you are, it's easy. if you aren't, then it's hard.
She is sooo cute 😍😍😍
Well St. Nicholas has absolutely nothing in common with Santa Claus. Not even remotely, I really don't understand how can someone connect these two characters together. Just because they both have white beards?
shes adorable
Ashley, do you have your own channel?
Kofola is cola but its less sweet and has its special taste not for every one. Ř č ž ě ň are hard to pronounce but if you learn them then your friends will be surprised
Nejlepší tradice jsou pelíšky
This lady is amazing. She "love" us.
Second hardest language ;)
Its a paradise.
I love our easter.
The thumbnail i see poland
Am actually every impressed by how she pronounced some of the Czech words
Very cute.
Knedlíky is not really a dessert. It's a sweet main dish... you eat it like a the main dish and have a regular serving of them.
I don't never heard of somebody having for example meat dish and then a knedlík as a dessert lol
She is cute and I like the way she explains things.
i think she is describing it pretty acurrately, but choosing only fun facts
I think Cesky Krumlov is the city known as "the fairytale city" :D
she has pretty eyes
The confidence boost
She makes me giggle, and she's so cute
Ah yes miss pronouncing Czech words
quite good asmr
RoHIT 786 ,1998
She is good with the Ř letter. I have to admit.
Nice lady
Very genuinely said and explained, an awesome way of pronouciations and very well described, RESPECT to you girl. Plus u re super cute too. The world needs more such Americans like urself
It´s true that we love our fairy tales but it´s not only about watching TV. Nowadays is there something like a movement ,Read to the children 20 minutes a day´ because modern age is soo hectic and I find sad that parents (or most of them, or it at least seems to me) don´t tend to read some fairy tale to their children before going to sleep... :-( I hope that the fairy tale reading won´t die out.
czech people have russian face type, are racially slavics, central european slavics..an interesting gastronomy, beautiful language and culture too,is beautiful country...i like Czech republic...now Czechia...

What do u think about Poland?
Great country that wanted to cut some pieces of czechoslovakia after they were sent under the Germany’s bus in 1938. Also said that the will attack soviet forces if they will decide to help Czechoslovakia to fight Germany
Opravdu smysluplné video,nerozumím ani slovo.
Idk but I find the way she speaks super refreshing and sweet
