You could do a 5-speed conversion. A manual transmission behind a 1FZ is amazing. I completely changes the truck on the Hwy and offroad. Cruiser Outfitters in Salt Lake City can help with this.
I really enjoyed watching the build of this vehicle, found your channel because of it, subscribed and look forward to seeing how the vehicle evolves! 👌
It should be fun… so far I have just been driving and wheeling it a ton to get a feel for it. It’s weird to say this, but somehow it feels pretty nimble… I like it a lot so far.
Nate seems like a solid guy. I loved watching him work on this rig for the competition and it's cool you were able to pick this up. I'll be keeping track of your progress with it too. Those bronze Method wheels you have on it now are the same I just picked up for my 100 series, I'm itching to get on a trail and try them out.
I am so impressed with the Bead grip wheels, we just went snow wheeling and two of my tires were reading straight 0 PSI and still never popped a bead….
Yeah that's why I got them. Have had my eye on them since they announced them and youtubers like Nate testing them out sold me. I used the onX elite discount and got two sets one for my LC and one for my 3rd gen 4runner and can't wait to take them out!@@OutdoorAuto
Dave Chappelle may be a great recourse of help for you. he does epic quality work, worked on the rig. Can help you get it to the next level and he is super Humble. If i get to the point i have a rig for him to bless Im drivng up. Sending hellos from the Wellsville's
I took my 80 on the Rubicon in 1997, just from Tahoe to the Springs and back. Bone stock except for a 2” OME lift and BFG Mud T/A’s. In ‘98 I went back with another lifted 80 for company, and we did the whole trail with the TLCA from Loon Lake to Tahoe. People flocked around them - couldn’t believe that 80’s could do it. Now I guess 80’s are everywhere off-road. Back then it was just soccer moms in the US, or off-road in Australia or Middle East. I know the trail is tougher now but it was amazing what a near-stock 80 would do.
I built my own 4x4 and it cost me 25k and 2 years, I’ll never be finished but that’s a different story. My main reason for commenting is to ask the price you paid or at least what the seller was asking? Just looking quickly I can say I would forget all about the tundra and buy a trailer for hauling to replace the bed. That is a sweet ride that I’m sure could last a few generations with minimal upkeep. Congratulations (it would be my daily driver)
Let us know when you are coming south! We are Battle Born Cruisers and would love to show you around the local trails here in Reno and we can take you through the Rubicon too.
@@OutdoorAuto which coat is that? I like the way it looks on you and the liner on it. I was looking at the “M3 Woobie,” or the “S3 Solution”jacket. Now I want that one
Do you have a plan for taking the family wheeling with the roll cage in place near the b and c pillars? Even padded thats a pretty big danger unless you plan on installing harnesses for your kids in the back
The sunroof delete is barely saving any weight (very insignificant and not noticible) and it's great for you and/or your kids to pop up there and get a better view. It's easy to fix the leaks. It's probably the drain tubes clogged or something. 😤. How much $$ was the 80 ?
On a BMW all the parts were almost 50 LBS… I’ll take 50 Lbs any day… I have vehicles with sunroofs… I understand their value… but definitely not in a rock crawler.
@@ironwoodoverland Thanks for the info. Was just curious but I guess the new owner wanted to keep it a secret 😜. That's a pretty good price considering all the work that went into it and it being a very purpose built 80. No overlander but I don't think that was the goal.
Yeah agree. Sunroof frame is composite and isn't heavy. Glass and surround has some weight. Sunroof isn't meant to be watertight, 4x drain tube need clearing
What would you do with this Land Cruiser?
Finish out the interior and fix the mirrors, let me know what you need.
Definitely air suspension not just for a lift, but highway MPG/Handling will be somewhat bearable
24 or 42gal LRA aux fuel tank.

I’ve been following this built. Glad to see you’ll continue this great project!

We love this Cruiser!!!! Stoked to see the build live on and go to good hands.

First thing I did was put a set of Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT’s on it for snow wheeling.
How have the mickeys done in snow? Haven’t had any snow in the Midwest yet and put a set of Baja Boss AT’s on a few months back
We sell more of the M/T Baja At’s then any other tire.
Awesome! Looks like it went to the right person. Good luck in the future.
What a great purchase it’s going to serve all your needs ,
Definitely enjoyed watching this build
Stoked to see this thing continue on in good hands!
Dude, you know you have a solid rig. Great buy
Can't wait to see the "rebuild"!
Congrats on the purchase! I loved watching him build that Land Cruiser!
Me too. I learned a lot from his build.
I'm in Idaho too! Also have an 80 and loved watching his build. Subscribed
If you see me around say hi 👋
@@OutdoorAuto likewise!
I think we need to see a collaboration content with both of your 80’s
Awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing you take this out!

Great buy!

They really are amazing vehicles. Incredibly overbuilt... in a good way.
This will be awesome!
Tundra Budget builds... Talk dirty to me!!!!!
congrats on the new purchase....can never go wrong with a toyota!

As much as I like the lcg build, I feel it needs a couple inches of lift.
Badass. Sounds like you are the perfect owner to finish this build right.
I am interested in buying some baja at tires for my truck. Are you happy with the snow and ice performance from them?
Great content, by the way.
a trip to windrock would be a great test of this awesome rig
It’s in the list… I need to fix a few things for that drive.
Love it!!
Would you mind doing a video on the bumpers, specifically the rear one. I need ideas for my bumper.
So glad to see this in your capable hands. Side note, is that a TrueWerk jacket you have on?
Yes, I love their stuff… seems to be about the only stuff I wear anymore.
