My favorite description of Chopper is from Dave Filoni: “If R2 is the family dog, Chopper is the cat.” He’s the perfect example of why you want to wipe an astromech’s memory, because they end up developing quirks and personalities if you don’t. Artoo is the best example as a kooky, friendly droid who just wants to help. Chopper is the worst example, as he just hates everyone other than Hera and actively will try to kill everyone, including his “friends”.
Hera is Chopper's "owner" and just like a cat, he loves and listens to only her. Everyone else is just tolerated.
He tries to "accidentally" end Ezra more times than I can count... cackling all the time...
This is so perfect
True except for the last part. Once you gain his loyalty he’ll commit war crimes for you. But he definitely has a disobedient cat attitude and doesn’t trust easily.
Nah. Artoo is a cat. Chopper is a feral cat who'll scratch your eyeballs out if you're not careful. And Threepio is one of those yappy little dogs that live in old ladies' purses.
I look forward to Jay’s reaction to Chopper’s war crimes
The moment he sees Chop’s biggest body count moment is going to be amazing
It. Will. Be. Glorious. 😂
It’s not a crime if he is right 😂😂😂❤❤❤
I was having a whole conversation with my work friend about that today.
Chopper DEFINITELY has bodies buried in his basement.
Even though we’re all dying for the preview’d Ahsoka reactions (including Adam and Jay, I’m sure) I for one am deeply enjoying seeing the guys take this ride together.
@umainebearman They said in a vid they put out recently that they're connected to Sag Aftra in some way and that their people told them what was safe to react to. Ahsoka didn't make that list. I think they said animated TV shows were ok, so they're doing this. Not disagreeing with what you're saying, just that I got the impression that they could actually get in trouble for it because they're in some way a part of the unions.
What's the rush? It's not going anywhere. I'd prefer Jay see the full Rebels before seeing Rebels II. Hopefully by then all the strikes are resolved and the filthy rich people stop exploiting others.
@@umainebearmanthat’s the reason? That is so lame
@@umainebearmanIt actually is supporting the unions, according to SAG-AFTRA, because that is promoting a currently-out show during the strike. Promoting old shows does not count, new shows does.
@@umainebearman The strike is in regards to current work, i.e currently promoting content would be breaking the line.
So the abilities that some consider unnatural, that Palps was talking about, is force out your feet
The Lightsabers are thin because this show really liked referencing Ralph Mcquarrie's OG concept art, ergo Chopper's arms, Zeb's design, skinny Lightsabers,... -spoilers- ect.
I have to imagine the Jedi Temple had an entire wing devoted to powered prosthetics and clone cultured replacement limbs to remediate training oopsies. "Congratulations to Padawan Endes Valprado who is graduating to field training with no prosthetics and 94% original body parts."
😂
Them finding Luminara that way was kinda terrifying.
Personally I love the fact that this show is more McQuarrie than even Star Wars(A New Hope) was, from Chopper, Zeb, Vader's mask all being inspired by the original artwork, makes sense for the lightsabers to look like original McQuarrie art too. It makes the show unique, yet JUST still Star Wars enough to still totally be canon.
The thing with the spinny lightsabers is that they ARE worse, the Inquisitors are given them purely for intimidation purposes
Love it. One of the darkest Jedi fates - and thanks Adam for the reminder that a lot of Obi-Wan's best moments came from Rebels...
I totally forgot he was in here! And the Maul fight! Oh Jay has some good stuff coming.
Lol Jay at the doors. That's one of my favorite Star Wars tropes. Shoot a door panel and it will do whatever the plot requires. Need it closed? Shoot it. Need it locked? Shoot it. Need it to open? You wouldn't think it, but yes, still shoot it.
I’m sure that’s true but for the life of me I can’t remember an instance in any Star Wars when shooting the door controls to a closed door opens it. Definitely many instances of shooting the open door to close it (and also to lock down a closed door). Hopefully someone can remember one.
@@LaxJedi honestly I can't either but funny comes in 3's so I threw that in there. I'm sure it's happened though.
Thing is I lvoe the skinny sabers because they're screen accurate to A New Hope.
Also doors closing on malfunction makes sense in space, or even in a naval setting. It's called "compartmentalization" and is used so that if there's a depressurization event (AIR ESCAPING THE SHIP) it doesn't space everyone.
That said it didn't make much sense when Mando did it in his first ep.
The sabers, as well as the rest of the shows design, are heavily influenced by Ralph Macquaries' early illustrations. Plus, the original Star Wars sabers from '77 had thin blades.
"And it's impregnable."
"That's never stopped us before."
Wow, that's an EARLY Season 4 hint.
About the controls being blasted closing the doors, I would assume it is a fire retardant system thing. Like, if a section of the ship gets blasted, you want to keep the fire away from air, so you lockdown compartments.
I think that blaster bolts to controls is not what failsafe controls are built for.
When you shoot Star Wars, they open if they were closed and close if they were open.
@@Carabas72 I’m sure that’s true but for the life of me I can’t remember an instance in any Star Wars when shooting the door controls to a closed door opens it. Definitely many instances of shooting the open door to close it (and also to lock down a closed door). Hopefully someone can remember one.
Yeah if someone really wants to “science the shit out of” Star Wars, then there are likely many explanations you could come up with. Such as yours, or something like, “the electro-plasma bolt from a blaster instantly destroys the circuit breaker/closure that was holding the door in an open/closed state, thus it reverts to its natural state, blah blah..” 😜. I can easily forgive the many minor tropes and contrivances (even though Jay and sometimes Adam question them), but I cannot stand some of the major ones showing up in recent Star Wars productions, which are allowed to get through a script review/edit process but would not hold up in any world, real or imagined.
If you didn't know, Base Delta Zero is the code for "glassing" a planet (ie - orbital bombardment until the entire surface of the planet is destroyed).
It's what happens to Mandalore in the flashback in Book of Boba Fett. Carpet bombing with fusion warheads. 😒
So what the empire did to Mandalore? I was wondering about that.
The Grand Inquisitor is such a cool villain every scene he’s in he’s just so menacing and cool even his entrance
Welcome to our kid's show where we use mumified bodies as bait 😅 I was waiting for that reaction to see your faces XD
People's obsession with death supposedly not being in a kid's show is SO SO strange to me. Such a strangely modern trend. All throughout the 19th and 20th century so many fairytales and children's songs are COMPLETELY about death to scare them into staying safe.
@@YodatheHobbit Indeed, but Disney was the one who cleaned them up into fairy tales with no real consequences - making it nice that it's taken seriously here...
It actually makes most sense for a door to fail closed, in a hostile environment that will kill you. Otherwise you risk losing the entire ship to damage, if there is a hull breach. (In this case its a planet, but most cases we see its on ships) On real navy ships, the first thing you do in any damage control scenario (fire, flood, etc) is to close down all the doors. Modern ships even have systems to automatically shut all doors.
In the Star Wars roleplay game the rules specifically state that anytime you shoot the controls to something it creates the desired effect...
I loved Rebels from start to finish, but let's be honest here... It gets MUCH BETTER later on. I absolutely cannot wait to see Jay's reaction to some of the characters, places, and storylines he's in for.
TEN MORE EPISODES until I can see his reaction to "Fire Across The Galaxy" literally can. not. wait.
Agreed! Just binged in over the span of 2 weeks and while I did enjoy S1&S2, S3&S4 are absolutely iconic and I was bawling by the end! Also super happy I saw it because now Ashoka holds so much more emotional depth and weight for me. I wouldn't feel the same had I not had all this prior context/character building etc.
The thinner lightsabers were definitely an acquired taste for me, now I think they look like a more elegant weapon from a more civilized age
Yeah that (along with a few other things in the show) is just an animation style that pays homage to original Star Wars artwork concepts and designs.
Adam - “I like a thicker blade”
Jay - “I know you do”
The show took a turn after that.😂😂😂
FYI…Dave Filoni does the voice for Chopper. My favorite little psycho Astro-mech!🥰
The Stygian system is the same prison Dooku and Sidius imprisoned Maul in the unfinished Son of Dathomir arc in The Clone Wars.
It’s hilarious Jay thinks Imp OSHA would favor the most obvious safety issue over a non existent security one. Real OSHA doesn’t even do that.😂
The sabers, like much of the show, are designed to line up with A NEW HOPE.
More accurately, they are designed to line up with Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for A New Hope.
So now you know the terrible fate of Luminara. Wait till you see how they did the Jedi Council - they're animatronics in the Emperor's Chucky Cheese Jamboree.
Papaltine just eats crappy pizza and cackles every night, watching their corpses perform the Imperial March.
I will say I’m so glad you guys are reacting to Rebels, and I’m glad you’re both watching it before watching Ahsoka. It’s so important, and it’s just such good Star Wars. It makes me happy that you are enjoying it so much too!
4:00 Wellllll...tbf, there was that 3PO droid that told C3PO "E chu ta" on Bespin in Empire. C3PO commented on how rude it was. lol
Base Delta Zero was introduced in the 2nd Han Solo trilogy as the code for complete destruction of a planetary surface via bombardment.
Personally I love the spinning saber its sole purpose is intimidating opponents blocking twice as much blaster fire which works because most inquisitors weren't trained well so they wouldn't become threats so intimidation was all they had and this was fresh after order 66 Jedi adopted blasters and rebel help so the extra defense was needed.
Like Zeb's species, the Lightsaber are skinny because that's how they where in the original concept art for A New Hope. A lot of Rebel's design aesthetic comes from that.
this is a nice reminder. it gives a good explanation, doesn't change my opinion that I prefer the thicker ones.
I'm so glad you guys are watching these its a great show that had me crying by the end. and re-watching them with you guys helps me remember stuff for the new Ashoka show win win.
Regarding doors shutting, it could be like fire doors that are held open with a magnet, but if the power goes, or the fire alarm is set off, the doors will shut.
Since the doors in the show usually are in military compounds or on spaceships, the most secure protocol would be to automatically shut them.
In a space ship, loss of power to the door controls should close them to prevent air loss
I shall reiterate each time you say it, the force surrounds all living being. Surrounds includes feet. Force can come out your feet.
" Choppers like that friend that always has a knife"...oh..oh jay lol
Things I learned this episode: Adam likes them sabres thick.
Chopper is an adorable war criminal
It makes sense on space ships or land installations in hostile atmospheres for doors to close by default if they lose power. This would help with sealing off areas that lose atmosphere. Otherwise, yeah, it doesn't.
We have OCCASIONALLY seen Force users try to use it against each other, like when Obi and Ani tried to push each other in ROTS.
yep, and [Spoiler] specifically does it the way Jay mentioned in the video to Cal Kestis in Jedi Fallen Order
Base Delta Zero - using orbital bombardment to completely destroy the planet's surface and destroying all life.
9:39 this really was what I got thinking about when we got to that part in Kenobi. Lash is right.
And yes these lightsabers are too skinny!
Waiting for Jay's reaction to the other inquisitor saber... abilities.
Before they made kyber crystals all mystical and 'magic'... I thought it would be nuts not to make Light Shields... you could have a shield wall that blaster fire would not break, but would also be reflected back. The shield bearers wouldn't need to be trained force users because you just need to be able to hide behind a shield.
OK, last comment (I've made too many already, sorry).
The skinny lightsaber blades are a callback to the original McQuarrie concept art for Star Wars. IIRC, Zeb is also based on his original concept for Wookies.
Also the "stygian system" is clever foreshadowing , as stygian is a thing to reference to the river styx in the greek underworld
How are you guys not watching one of these per day?
I'm on season 3 already and started the show the same day you guys put out the first episode
Can't stop won't stop
Fun fact: we did have thumbs on our feet at one time but evolved to not needing them as we became bi-pedal. Also fun fact: you have not yet begun to witness the war crimes Chopper commits.
Doors are passages through bulkheads. To prevent losing atmosphere doors default to closed.
So that wasn't the first time that saber was made. It dates back to the production of The Force Unleashed. Maris Brood was originally given the spinning blades. But that was changed to to the dual tonfas. It was then made into a General Grievous toy for during the original run of TCW. The blades are so thin cause everything and I mean EVERYTHING is based on the Ralph McQuarrie artwork and designs of the original trilogy. Go back and watch the movies and look at the paintings. You will see that the lightsabers are very thin.
Actually, (I know, I know 🤦♂️) Because they’re in space, when the panel loses power (I.e. shooting) and closes the doors, it’s a safety. Otherwise, in a power loss everyone would be flung into space from the open locks. In theory 🤷♂️
Interestingly it was taught during the Old Republic of the EU to have a force barrier surrounding you that defended you from basic attacks from your opponent like push and pull. And in the modern day of Star Wars it was taught to push your power into your hands and your saber during combat to block your enemies attacks with the force. This being because of the fact Kyber Crystals use a lot of connection to the force. This would tire out an defender tho after a while and you’d become more vulnerable to basic force attacks over time.
Star Wars is 90% in space, so the doors closing by default makes sense. Same thing for military bases, so that an attack will make it harder to get in.
Jay isn't R2-D2. He is Chopper.
I actually like the spinny sabers, since the inquisitors are canonically the shittiest force users it makes sense that their abilities are boosted by some sort of tech
At 1:40 Adam's shrug to the question. Such an appropriate response 😆
Super nerd here to explain the spinny sabres so bear with 😂
The Sabre spins to keep the users next move ambiguous to their opponent as there were different lightsaber forms trained jedi could recognise these and anticipate their opponents next move like we see the Grand Inquisitor do with Kanan when he identifies that he uses form 3. Most of the inquisitors were padawans so to give them an edge against trained Jedi knights they were given these sabres.
That all makes sense to me as to why they exist but again super fan and super nerd here so of course it does 😂. Anyway hope that helps
Chopper is Walter from the Big Lebowski.
My guess is, the doors emergency-close to seal off vacuum in case of a hull breach…or just cuz.🤷🏻♂️
I can't wait for Jays reactions when he finds out how naughty chopper can be lol
Kanan was around 14-15 when Order 66 happened, but that is early Clone Wars Ahsoka skill and training at the most
Fun fact: the thinner lightsaber blades were in the original concept art for the OT.
Everything in Rebels is based on Ralph Macquarie's concept art...and a certain Kenner toy.
Jay’s obsession with Sabine’s outfit is borderline creepy
Can’t wait for you to get through the whole series. If you think season one is good, you’ve seen nothing yet.
The reason why the lightsabers are thinner I'd because they are based on the original concept art the same goes for some of the characters the designs of the storm troopers and Vader Chopper/R2D2 and Zeb/chewie ect ect.
I think iv only seen the first season and u guys got me to try watching the whole thing , and im having a blast , just dont forget just cause u dont remember how violent or good alot of clone wars was doesnt mean it wasnt , dont judge it by bad batch heck darth maul and the umbara arc alone lol, but love u guys , no hate if u end up loving this show more thats a good thing lol also that grand inquisitor reveal was wizard
Oh you have to watch the whole thing. I like this more than Clone Wars.
I wonder if any Star Wars fan has made a Thermal Detonator hot cocoa bomb? Cause that would be very cool to have with fall and winter coming up.
Base delta zero is from the EU. It means they fire on the planet’s surface until it’s glass.
Gotta love my sweet baby menace, Choppa
“Feet thumbs for everybody “. YES!
You two absolutely need to watch some of the many choptalk (chopper scenes with subtitles) videos once you've been through Rebels... absolutely hilarious!!
Jay trying not to speak about Sabine's outfit challenge (impossible)
can make a drinking game at this point
At 12:30 u bring up why do the doors close when damaged but it’s a safety mechanism to prevent the ship leaking air into space.
I wish the Grand Inquisitor was around for longer, just for more Jason Isaacs
UA-cam jail sounds horrible. They probably make you watch dental prosthesis unboxing videos and listen to nails-on-chalkboard ASMR.
I am surprised you aren't doing reactions to Ahsoka, since the series is basically a continue to the Rebel series. I am enjoying it :)
This episode is getting 206/206 dead Jedi bones
Thanks, Jay! Thanks, Adam! 🚀 #pReviewd #StarWars #StarWarsRebels
2nd Comment:
I don't understand the hate when it comes to the Inquisitor lightsabers. I mean, I think it makes them look pretty cool [both in action & not] and it helps differentiate the Inquisitor's hilt/blade from the Sith's double-bladed lightsaber [ie. Darth Maul's]. Also, I think the "flying" aspect was an awesome choice to make. I think of it more like a way for them to glide thru the air. The best way to introduce it into live action would be to have the Inquisitor use it as they jump down from a high platform or something. Showing it used as a parachute of sorts vs. flying from a standing position.
sabine: “it’s impregnable” kanan: “that’s never stopped us before” jay: “haha ! nice😏”😭😭 im done😭
Not a word about how the Grand Inquisitor actually looks like Jason Isaacs, only bald and alien?
the cheap mass produced rifles that Stormtroopers used were highly inaccurate. This is the main reason they usually miss.
Double force pull clothesline!! Gotta be added to your picks for end of series review best stormtrooper "kills" 🤣
They asked Filoni to describe Chopper and he said he asked the writer to write him as if R2-D2 was a dog Chopper was a cat
He flies now!
4:55
"That 'Base Delta Zero' initiative the Empire keeps talking about? The new 'key to planetary liberation'? Don't believe it. It's a military code phrase, and it means TOTAL EXTERMINATION OF A TARGET POPULATION. It's completely loathsome."
―Sabine Wren, in her private journal
Dark Side is powerful, Force do come out feet. Right Anakin?… A- Anakin? Anakin? Oop.
Hahahahahahaha! Absolutely savage!!!!
This is a big episode for the series as 1 we get the first look at the GI. It introduced Trayvis. And upped the stakes with A DARK AF revelation of the fate of Bariss' master. I unabashedly love this series
Chopper is a hero.
Training montage... osha violations, child services, heck the dairy board will be all over this.
OKAY BUT IF YOU HAVE FOOT THUMBS DOES THE FORCE COME OUT YOUR FEET?? THATS BASICALLY HANDS
oh the door thing...its not, its,... ok its complicated in most sf shooting it the makes the control panel think theirs been an explosion or similar incident so it lock down the door so fire dosent spread or atmo dosent get out. its not stupid but the tech running the door just isnt smarts enough to get it. i think it stems from space ships and such being thought as subs in spaces back in the day.
Sometimes when you shoot the panel the doors open..I think
Phrasing guys. Phrasing. Lol 😂
I remember one of the creators spoke about why they made the lightsabers skinny, can’t remember the reason though
Oh Jay, you sweet summer child...
To answer the question about why force users don’t just constantly use the force on each other while in lightsaber fights, each force user has a natural field in the force that protects them. The stronger you are in the force the less another force user is able to do to you. This is also why sith lightening can incinerate a normal person but only shock and knock out powerful force users.
Edit: this was mentioned in the darth Bane trilogy. It spoke about how the force passively protected its wielder.
source? makes sense, but would be nice to know where you got that from.
@@davidbergfors6820 it was in the books although I’ve read so many of them im not exactly sure which one. To be fair it may be legends at this point. Might have been the Master and apprentice series or the old republic books. Like I said I’ve read a lot of them.
@@davidbergfors6820 I found it. In the Darth Bane trilogy it is mentioned that the force passively defends its user.
Its REBEL TIME!
1st comment:
Really?! I LOVE the "thin" lightsabers! I'm a Prequelist thru and thru, but I must say the thin sabers are true the Original trilogy... specifically Ep. 4! ie. Vader vs. Obi Wan Kenobi
The thing with Star Wars and shooting the doors is it works both ways. You can shoot a door to open it, or to close it; it depends on what the character needs in the moment.
