    That's amazing! Now all I need is for the oldest to move out so I can expand my workshop into his bedroom to fit this thing. Shouldn't be more than 15 years or so. :)
    But seriously, thank you. Your effort and generosity is much appreciated!

    Hoping “someday” I have a place I can make creations like this

      I know the feeling! I only built the shed just under 2 years ago, it's surprising how quickly you can outgrow a workshop :)

    I love to see new OSHW machine tools! Kudos for making it and releasing it.
    I wonder how much work it would be to port the drawings to FreeCAD and the controller to LinuxCNC so it can be a fully open system.
    I'm not bashing F360 or Mach, btw, just noting that the project is pretty close to being free as in beer and as in speech.

      Thanks man! I see where you are coming from. This is something I will certainly look into going forward, particularly around LinuxCNC. For me Mach3 was simply a way to get this running and test it out. I have said from the start that I will be moving away from it. As someone who teaches CAD (including FreeCAD) I can honestly say FreeCAD is dreadful, it's a real mess and the UI is awful. Fusion 360 is still free but limited to a number of projects unfortunately. This was a greedy move by Autodesk.

      @@thehardwareguy I get that many people don't like FreeCAD. I came from Solidworks and Mastercam and for whatever reason FreeCAD works fine for my needs.
      But yeah, the deal Autodesk offers for free Fusion360 just keeps getting worse and also worse for indies who are willing to pay but not at like, Boeing level of cost. 🙂
      But again, thanks for making and sharing the design! That's the main thing.

    Amazing build sir.👍👍 thank you for sharing this valuable knowledge. appreciate your efforts & dedication for this project.
    I have a question sir, can i use 1605 ball screw for z axis & 1610 ball screw for X & Y axis? is there any option in mach3 to set different steps /mm for each axis?

    Do you know how loud is it? I would love to build one, but I am a bit worried that my neighbours will complain about the noise :(

    • @thehardwareguy
      @thehardwareguy  21 день тому

      The machine itself is not very loud at all due to the water cooled spindle. The major noise tends to come from the shop vac which is required to extract the wood chips away!

    Hi, I tried to download the files, but it just loops back to the sponsor's page and nothing downloads. I see you have another download for raptor so tested and it worked but not the cnc. I would like to build this bigger one as have imported a 3018 from amazon but too small for what I would like to do. I'm still trying to learn the cad software; it certainly will cost me a lot more than 3000 to build 🤣 as everything except wood and screws needs importing where I live. Iv helped on the electrical and electronics refurbishing both cnc Lathe and mill on industrial machines for a friend. So, he can help with the drilling and tapping of metal parts.

      Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention, it should now be resolved. I made some changes to the site a couple of days ago and that was a weird bug for some unknown reason. Good luck with your build! Come and join the Discord and keep us updated 🙂

      Thanks downloading now. Really like the bench part. Very sturdy looking. I've seen designs with aluminium profiles but can't get here and shipping those a hassle

    • @thehardwareguy
      @thehardwareguy  2 місяці тому +2

      Thank you! yes the bench is very sturdy. It's a great all-round bench for anything in the workshop. I'll probably build a few more in future just for sanding etc. I considered aluminium profiles during my research, but you won't get stiffer than flatbar. When it's all bolted together it's very solid. Even more so if you use steel!

      @@thehardwareguy I’ll do that . Currently have quite a few projects on go. Sorting out a woodwork shop,building kitchen cabinets. Plumbing water pipes in garden but digging trenches not so easy I’m 66. So modifying rotorvator to dig the trench at least loosen the soil.

      awesome, I hope I can still do all that at 66!
