I know this is an older video, but make sure you give it the extra "1/4" turn on gillette adjustables. After the doors close and knob feels like it's tight, you keep turning it and will feel the spring tension until it actually is fully tight. The 1/4 turn is more on high setting and less with low setting so it's not exactly 1/4 turn, but you need to do that to "lock" the blade and setting in.
Great shave Spencer. I have the rex ambassador myself and find it to be a great shaver if you practice with it enough. I find that it's much easier to load the blade if you hold the razor upside down in your hand and twist the razor closed. The weight of the razor will push the blade into place and you'll hear the click so you don't have to push it down with your fingers.
I give the Rex credit for stepping in the ring, and it's definitely a worthy tool, but the Gillette Slim Adjustable, Fatboy and Super Speed take the top three spots on my GOAT list of razors, not necessarily in that order. The fact they're all half a century old, likely older, makes them all the more formidable. The Karve CB gets honorable mention. Great video.
If Gillette were to reintroduce their iconic razors, they’d sweep the board and knock the arse from under the overinflated vintage market and also the modern imposters. Plus they’d sell them for about thirty quid.
I love the slim. Youll never see anything like it again, Adjustable, serviceable, solid brass ect. You wont get stamped brass today not for anything close to affordable, the stamping machines are all but vanished. Great video bud.
Good comprehensive review. Cool Brush. I'm a big fan of the Slim Adjustable. Are you actually old enough to shave? How many days does it take you to get a days' growth?
I believe you said the M1 was more aggressive when in reality the N1 is. Then again both letters sound fairly similar. Please let me know if I misunderstood you? 🤔 This is a conversation between Matt & I, Yes we have made slight improvements every production run. Improved N1 handle / grip, & made it more aggressive.
Thank you for this review> I was just gifted a B 2 Gillette Slim and was wonder how it compares to the modern day "expensive" Rex. I love the Gillette but I do set up on a 4 or 5 for a great shave using a Voskhod blade. Kit
Hi Spencer. I just received my Rex (P series). I can't get to make a blade snap in my razor cap, no matter what I do. It will not snap in there. Am I missing something?
Great vid brother. Hope things aren't too dead on the coast with the Games on. Heard it's like a ghost town. Looking forward to seeing the vids with the new Eufros soaps. If you don't like the tobacco let me know lol :)
That was a really good comparison. I have the Fatboy and I really to love it! Cooper and French is a kick ass soap! I used a sample of it a while back.
I love the adjustable razors my two favorite are the Gillette slim adjustable and Gillette fatboy I find the more growth the better shave I get the slim adjustable will always have a place in my heart it’s my dads birth year razor
Oh wow. I love sentimental razors brother. That's so good. I love my slim adjustable. Kindly gifted to me by an amazing friend of mine. And the Rex ambassador is absolutely kick ass too
Sthalutations Shpencer!! Great shave and comparison video. I like my slim adjustable and my variant. I’ve put myself on hold from buying mid range things. I want to get some upper end pieces. What are your suggestions? Best regards and have a great week!
Oh awesome decision to go upmarket my friend. My absolute favourites are rocnel. What is your top razor at the moment. I also highly recommend ATT and Timeless
Top razor.....if I had to pick one, it would probably be the iKon 102 for now. I also like my Rockwell 6c, but the iKon edges it out in my opinion. I will do some research on your suggestions. Much appreciated.
Finally! Someone else to support my love of the 102 hahaha. No one else I know likes it hahaha. And if you like that bite. I'd say rocnel elite, sailor, or above the tie r1 or the aluminium H1 (similar aggression to 102)
best silvertip knot there is imo. i've heard Shavemac and Thater are on par with it but i also hear they're all the same hairs all sourced and made by Shavemac.
they're tricky to acquire. normally he doesn't ship outside the United States, but if you message him he'll take you through a special order form process and will send it to you. i'm in Canada and i got one no problem. softest silvertip i've ever used and the tips hook like mad! backbone and flowthrough are perfect. it's not a real scrubber, but it'll give you enough backbone to lather whilst being really gentle. like a silk cloud moving across your face. if you have any kind of shaving irritation and still need to shave, use the savile row silvertip and it won't exacerbate the condition. or if you just want the luxury of using the softest silvertip badger brush available as a nice treat or even a daily use brush, it's great no matter what. you can find em on qedusa .com if you wanna have a look.
If you can, please make a comparison shave between the Rex Ambassador and the Rockwell model T (when it comes out), as they are both new, modern adjustable DE razors little advice, order the razor now for 99$, because starting mai 1st it will cost 195$
Spencer Frankel Wholy moly 60+. You are a crazy 😂 Btw, I was looking at your soap collection and had a thought. If there are some that you don’t care about I could buy some. This is as I recently got my Rex, and starting to build up my soap collection. I’m in Sydney so the sending costs should not be an issue.
LOL,my bad, I meant steeper. More drag with shallow angle. Used some MAAS and polished the comb with to get better glide, that and a steeper angle worked a charm!

A 55 year old razor that looks almost new that goes for under $50 vs a New $200 plus razor .
For me Vintage wins all the time .
Great shave Spence !
Completely makes sense brother
Graydog Yup! 😉👍🏼
Graydog I agree Greydog I have a 1964 Gillette Slim Adjustable and its 2nd to none in my collection

Oh awesome info thanks brother!! Saw some people say you have to click it in. Will try this brother. Thank you
Justin Flores +1 From me as a Rex owner.

Hahahaha thanks my friend, take care

I'm speechless mate! So glad you like the Slim. That brush is just frigging awesome! You're a legend mate and I'm honoured to call you a friend 👍👍👍

This is a conversation between Matt & I,
Yes we have made slight improvements every production run. Improved N1 handle / grip, & made it more aggressive.
does the slim adjustable give you BBS with three passes? while maintaining it's smoothness?
0:01-0:02 dude wtf 😂 my boy had a brain fart. My boy said “uhhhhhhhhhh” 😂
Bahahaha😂

It's really dead brother. And ah I'm very sorry to say the tobacco kicks ass 😉
Why the hell would you scrub a new blade with a toothbrush? 🤔 You probably took off the coating they put on to make it shave better.
'Vintage Feeeback',you need to put a pat p on that one 😀the Rex is on my to get list and the Rockwell Model T if they ever release it lol
Hahaha. I think I should've just said different feedback on brass Vs stainless 😂 you'd like the rex bro
That was a really good comparison. I have the Fatboy and I really to love it! Cooper and French is a kick ass soap! I used a sample of it a while back.
Thanks brother. Then save your money and keep then Fatboy bro 😉
Spencer Frankel 😁
Do a review with Rockwell model t please
Monster Brush dude!!! Love it!! :-)

Cool! Thanks. There's a new SS H1 on ebay. Maybe I'll throw a bid or two on it.
The stainless H1 is really aggressive brother. The aluminium ATT are a lot milder than the stainless
Try a Savile Row! Just got a 3324 and it’s awesome!!
best silvertip knot there is imo. i've heard Shavemac and Thater are on par with it but i also hear they're all the same hairs all sourced and made by Shavemac.
Never tried a saville. Maybe one day 😔

Michael Ray You guys are way too kind!

🤦🏻♂️ You should’ve got an iPhone
The Rex shaves better with a shallow angle imo.
Really. I found steeper to work for me better brother
LOL,my bad, I meant steeper. More drag with shallow angle. Used some MAAS and polished the comb with to get better glide, that and a steeper angle worked a charm!
Awesome brother 😊😊 glad I'm not going crazy 😉😂
