Love listening to Bernard Kerr feel he is so open and honest about the sport, and talks openly about the things others don’t dare mention, he is probably one of the best ambassadors for the sport at the moment along with the Atherton’s
@@TheRideCompanion Yes the on track support at races is such a big thing now, remember while putting up banner at fort bill world cup & seeing fasted lines, then told Steve Pete & told him what l saw, but could see he did not know whither to believe me or not, so do not need to be fast guy, but do need race experience?
I think it was Jack Moir who pitched an idea for enduro last year. Do a re-seed and film the top 20-30 riders on the final stage and treat it like a downhill race. I can't speak for everyone, but I'd tune in to watch Ritchie, Jesse, Jack, Isabeau, Morgane, or any of the super talented enduro riders fly down a gnarly enduro track. Hell, replace the semi-final broadcast with this and I'd be super happy. There are a ton of marketable riders and products in Enduro, it's a shame there isn't any creativity in the broadcasting. Then again, they're finding every way to make it impossible to watch anyway.
Yes, love the idea of an allround mtb world champ, where there is multi-day enduro, a round or 2 with just up lifts, straight pedal enduro even a downhill weekend format but on their enduro bikes, add up the piints end of year = best mtb all rounder
As a fan, I would actually argue that Enduro has had some of the best build around the media in recent years. It can be improved but the coverage has been super creative. I work in moto and honestly, what they've done with a relatively new sport in regards to production and coverage is phenomenal. I like the idea's you've pitched here, but I would suggest going to look at the coverage of Motorcycle world enduro championships to see just how well done things are here. Nearly the same sport, shocking coverage. Abysmal. Some of the coverage, race track highlighting and so on has been quite well done and creative and it needs building upon. Profiles, formats and a little money from somewhere. @@Dunnieltd
@@BrakeMagazine Yeah, EnduroGP has terrible coverage, absolutely awful. However, Hard Enduro which Red Bull show is far better, with Erzbergrodeo live, and the final round, Getzen in Germany was also live.
One bit BK nailed is that WB/Disney/ESO fundamentally does not understand mountain bike racing. That's the overarching theme to the problems last year. They don't get how / why Enduro is exciting. They don't understand what parts of a downhill race are exciting. That's why we get drone shots that don't show the rider's lower body or bike at all, or cutting away from the rider on track to a shot of the team manager. That's also why there is a lack of story telling through practice, qualifying, semis, and finals. They don't understand the sport.
He’s always a brilliant guest, always positive, down to earth, hard working, and you never hear a bad word about him! His relationship with BK is pure love 😂 Bernard had some interesting things to say too 🤣🤘❤️🌈🕊️🌎
As a ‘normal’ mountain biker that grew up 90s XC - everything at DYFI just looks painful! Would love to be able to ride it just seems bit out reach vs bike park wales trails etc.
Sick, love listening to BK (also a massive fan of him, and Lada) such a honest, happy go lucky, likeable bloke. Hoping the DH gods shine down on him this upcoming season and let him get his first WC win.
Sounds like Barney’s living my bike mechanics wet dream with that warehouse setup! Give me a shout if he ever needs a hand building up those 31 frames and all the wheels! 😎
Well good episode really interesting, I bought an SC Bullit a couple years back from a little store in Surrey and it was set up for by a young dude who was absolutely brilliant turns out it was Bernards little brother 🤙
As a local, it’s so cool to hear this from BK. Everyone asks “why don’t you want to leave the area”… if they rode bikes they would understand 🤣 best place in the Northern Hemisphere to ride bikes in winter. Period.
Love these podcasts guys. I feel like I am sitting in the living room chatting bikes with my mates. This is the community spirit we need in the sport now more than ever. Thanks!

didnt know bk actually owns the pivot factory racing team. always thought he was a paid pivot manager/rider. which makes the set up even more impressive.
BK not having a wage is NOT INSANE! BK is the team owner. This is how team ownership works! You reap the benefits 10X when the team is up, but when it’s down you can suffer. Totally normal and the way things work in ALL forms of racing!
Great episode fellas. Regarding the 'skin suits' bit, GMBN have recently done some proper tests regarding speed/drag created by different types of MTB clothing. Very interesting and I'm guessing this was filmed before the GMBN vid otherwise you guys would have mentioned it.
Interesting views on Queenstown. I haven't ridden there since 2005... I would imagine that for anywhere that builds a economy around lifestyle stands the risk of the Vegas/money effect. I live out here in Kelowna BC, quite similar to Queenstown in it's landscape, also great MTB out here although the local city has on vision

I think the broadcaster needs to treat the Enduro the same as a WRC Rally with a camera man and a reporter interviewing the riders at the end of each stage/section, the reporter would have live timing and be able to tell the riders where they stood in comparison to other riders.
It took the WRC until 2017 to have full live coverage; it's so expensive, and Enduro won't have that type of money. Best to do what the WRC did before; nightly highlights with interviews, etc
The video gmbn did on clothing recently was an eye opener. I don’t want skin suits but most dh riders two piece kits these days are bordering on it anyway.
Mach is so easy to get to from the Midlands too - direct train from Brum. Plus, there's some ace wild swimming in the area. Great cafes, loads of live music nights, really good community spirit. If Pivot can engage with the community, it'll really work. (Someone needs to get into the Mach Whatsapp community - it's full of info.) Anyway, I'll try to pop in to Dyfi next time I'm passing.
I think people forget just how important media coverage is for the success of a sport. Take aggressive inline skating, in the 90s and early 00s you have a triumvirate of "street sports" or "action sports" Skateboarding, BMX and Inline. All 3 sports appeared equally in the X-Games and so had a global media presence. In 2005 ESPN made the call to drop inline and within a year or 2 it totally bladers near disappeared from skateparks.
can you put the link to the bike park Bernard is mentionning at around 14 min 45 , he says the best Bike park in the northen hemisphere during winter . Thanks !
BK (aka Christian Horner of Red bull F1 fame) is an absolute legend. So hard working and passionate about the sport and a true role model for other riders and team managers alike. I decided to name my chocolate lab Lada in honour of the original Ladaman! 😂
Hard to believe Danny H won’t be on a pivot this year given what he’s up to & who he’s hanging out with now but have seen folk say he’s riding a Nukeproof in NZ. Dream team with Brayton in the works?
Seems like a smart model BK has setup, with risk shared between everyone. Yes, BK has a lot to do, but he seems to get freedom from the sponsors and a chance to leave profits in the pot. Pivot providing frames, R+D, funds etc seems like a good trade for a team that's managed and promoted by someone else (who happens to be well liked in the community). I'm sure the facotry teams need several payroll staff for one BK. Props for the trust shared between everyone. Compared to a factory team, this seems smart to me. I wonder if other teams could have avoided the cull by being lighter on their feet.
Re the skin suits, loads of weekend warriors are not going to buy them and wear them. So it will actually impact sales of 'regular' kit as the regular kit won't be getting the top level exposure it currently gets through race coverage, photoshoots, interviews, etc. From a marketing perspective, it would be a huge mistake and financial loss for the MTB industry. Fact.
So no BK sport one piece spandex skin suits then? :p I'm gonna go with the reason the viewing figures for last years world cup haven't been released is because it was dramatically lower than expected.... I want to see some big Pivot wins this year, let's have the TV bigwigs eat some humble pie!
Just really, really hope that the bike park doesn't out price itself as we are in a financial crisis and would be a shame to only cater fir ppl with money or sponsors its already nearly 50quid add fuel stop overs etc it becomes very expensive for us mere mortals
If Pivot are quibbling over the cost of McDonald's which is one of the cheapest ways to eat, then money must be tight. It's certainly cheaper than having a chef and a nutritionist which you would assume a factory team would have. Pivot need to up their budget.
26:54 Enduro racing is not that entertaining to watch live on video, and the riders are not that charismatic as i Downhill e.g. Brendog, Kerr,,,, - and the competition is far too great from other stand alone riders like Sam Pilgrim, Kilian, Rémy, The Jones´, and the big events like Hardline, Rampage and so on, it just mean that there is not enough demand and thus "space" for Enduro racing among a wider audience
