      Independent Publishing. If I am successful I would probably approach or wait to be approached by traditional publishers for the French and Spanish language rights. Until then, most traditional publishing deals are not that attractive from a business point of view.

      Traditional route. I’ve read a book called ‘Selling Rights.’’ It’s exciting to see the many avenues for selling book rights at home and abroad. Don’t the publisher’s take a cut of book sales? Sure, the agent takes 15%, but the publishing house must take something?

    Hi, Alyssa.
    I don't know if you would read my comment, but here it goes. I started with an idea, then came a Peom. From that came a song. I was listening too. When the pandemic began. I then decided to act upon them and started writing in composition books. I did this for four years, Alyssa. I have no money to get them edited and proofread to make them perfect so the world can read my many different stories. Traditional publishing is right for me. It's the only way I can get them to readers out there who would read my story and love it as much as I did when writing them. My dream is to be an author. Like you said, to have them right next to the books that the authors that I like and admire the most. To have a legacy for all to read and love. I am trying to find an agent but I 'am not having any luck. I really want to get into Penguin Random House which will love my stories just as the next author who I inspire to write. My Grammarly is bad because I cannot afford the full subscription at all. Same with Microsoft 365. I don't have the money for them. A diamond in the rough is hard to find right but if they are trying to get notice and not having any luck for people to see or notice them, they are reaching out to you Alyssa, or anybody to take a chance with them and read what they have. I know this is a very long shot. I'm trying really hard to get that attention to blow or knock your socks off by reading my story or crying as you read and maybe just laughing and jumping up and down and saying this is the story that Hollywood is looking for to make a major motion picture about my story. Sorry for being so long.

    Thank you very much for your channel and the guidance you provide therein. I recently finished my first book in an epic fantasy series I am working on and very much hope to traditionally publish. I hired a professional editor but her busy schedule won’t have that manuscript back in my hands for 2-3 months, so trying to do as much research and preparation in that time so that I’m fully prepared for the query letter stage. Your videos have been instrumental in that preparation, especially for someone like myself where I had no idea what the process would be after getting my book edited. Thank you!

    Can you do a video on which of these would be more profitable for the author? I've self-published 2 books in a planned 7 book series and just put a stand alone on pre-order. I want a new series to start in the fall, but is it worth the time to shop it for an agent? I don't love the KDP advertising, but it's simple enough. Thanks in advance!

    who has ultimate creative control contractually over the manuscript (not the cover) when traditionally published. Are you forced make a chance or revision you don't want to make because contractually the publisher has control?

    • @AlyssaMatesic
      @AlyssaMatesic  3 роки тому +3

      Absolutely not - the writer will be aware of all the revisions made at every stage of editing.

    Saw this video in the recommended section.
    I have self published two books, the latter after agents rejected it, and I wish I would have never gone the self publishing path. The costs are just tremendous and marketing is just not my thing. Now that my second book won some awards, I hope agents may be willing to take me in with my third one. I'm fine with the cons as long it gets me out of my crappy retail job.

      Having those awards under your belt will definitely be a good sign to agents. Best of luck with querying!

    In India, can we go for self publishing first to save time and then for traditional publishing of the same book.

    • @AlyssaMatesic
      @AlyssaMatesic  4 роки тому

      That’s really interesting. In the US, writers have to choose one or the other.

    I have a question. Can your book be sold on Amazon or Kindle via traditional publishing? I saw that a lot of people prefer to shop from there.

    • @AlyssaMatesic
      @AlyssaMatesic  2 роки тому +2

      Yes--rather, your traditional publisher will list your books on Amazon/Kindle for you, with the ISBN codes that they have already purchased.
