Amazing part of my childhood. I loved to visit Old Salem each Christmas and hear the bells being played and also these cookies.....Ms Hanes is carrying on that tradition and I wish your family all the best!!!
Love all their delicious cookies but especially the black walnut flavor which is so unique. Although I grew up in Ohio, I've lived in NC for 33 years, and the black walnut always reminds me of my dad. He liked black walnuts, and although he never had the pleasure of tasting a Mrs. Hanes black walnut cookie, I think he would have liked them as much as I do. If you like super sweet over-the-top cookies, Moravian cookies may not be for you. But to me their not-too-sweet humble simplicity and crispness has an adult taste and sophistication we really enjoy. Stop by their store in Clemmons, NC and watch their bakers roll and cut each cookie, not machines. Highly recommend.
I also grew up up near Winston-Salem and have Moravian ancestors. I love Moravian cookies. My aunt made them at Christmas and I was amazed at how thin they were.
The Moravian Church has a special history in the Virgin Islands. I am planning to make some to eventually share with friends at the local Moravian church. I love everything about this video.
