When Dreams come Through - John Ulrich 1982.
Ina TV broadcast in 1982 pianist John Ulrich is featured in an Edgar Sampson composition. John is backed up by Gene Mayl on bass and Ken Hall on drums. A combination of lyrical musicality, very original swing approach and a great technique in stride made him to be very much admired by his fellow musicians.
I heard from clarinettist Kim Cusack that now in 2007 John is in a senior home but keeps playing his beloved piano.

John was the quintessential musician, a super funny and great guy.
I was very lucky growing up he lived next door to my grandparents (in Columbus, Ohio) and even managed to score piano lessons from him.
To watch him play in person was an existential trip.

John was my first piano teacher concerning jazz :-) I still remember a lot about the lessons and the tunes he had me learn.
