Stupid question (that you may have answered in the past on your posts): Has Geddy ever reached out to you or dropped a note? Over the years many artists have surfed the web to see what their fans are doing/posting (hey that's how Arnel Pineda was discovered!), and it seems to me that you would be the perfect candidate for an artist to acknowledge in one way or another. You have always posted videos in a manner that is professional, technically accurate, respectful, and thoughtful-- in short, your videos honor the songs and artists that created them. Given that Geddy seems to be a very modest, funny, and engaging artist, I would not be surprised if he said "Hey, Troy, I really like your playing, and most importantly, how you share your love for all things Rush with other fans. Thanks." Just a thought....
No, the closest to anything like that is a couple of my videos being embedded on their official web page. Thanks for the kind thoughts and words though. A couple other bass players whose bass lines I've covered have reached out or, otherwise, acknowledged me which is always a thrill. Bruce Thomas is a big one. The fellow from Blue Oyster Cult......trying to think of who else, there are a few more. But what's even nicer is when I get recognized on the street or at a show or something which happens more and more these days.
I thought I would throw this in there because of your question I don't know if you're familiar with the guitarist Buckethead probably one of the top 5 shredders ever. He has quite a following that do covers of his songs in one of the guys name is Marlboro one-two-three-four I think it is was so good that Buckethead actually invited him on stage to play a couple songs with them and I thought it was a nice gesture.
Actually frightening that he's able to do both so well, simultaneously. The difference between professionals and hacks like me is a pretty vast chasm..
Amazing cover, the Rickenbacker sounds great too! Limelight is also a really great one to play on guitar, especially the emotional solo. Keep up the fantastic work 👍🏻
This song meaning is so much more than meets the eye at first glance. The lyrics are about Neal’s struggles with being a superstar and having fans adore him.
Thanks so much! Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and preferences but, out of all the basses that I've had, the Rickenbacker is one of my least liked.
Great job Troy and Happy Birthday. You helped with learn this song for a gig a few years ago when you broke down the solo in slow mo, always appreciate the videos. A shout out to Zero Mod. I bought a 5 string Sadowsky MV5 (beautiful Burgundy Mist) a few months ago. Having seen you use their product I contacted them. They did not have one for that bass, so they literally engineered one for me. I sent them pics, specs etc. Great company and a great product.
Glad you found the video helpful. Thanks. Hey, I mentioned your message to Tim and he said he'd love to see a photo of it. He's done a few "custom" things for me as well, never charging extra for it. And, just so you know, I've paid full price for every rest I've bought from the, which is around 8 or so. They've offered some free ones but I have so much respect for Tim and what he does that I insist on paying.
Happy Birthday Neil and Troy! I love the Rickenbacker! Great tone, and great playing! I'm always amazed at how you can commit all of these covers to memory.
You're truly a great player and a real inspiration for young bassists like myself, keep up the amazing work, sir! :) P.S. I love your mask collection :D
I think you're iconic. Everytime I want to check the notes of a Rush song I come here. You are a teacher for a lot of bass players like me. I love your passion and your hard work, keep it up. Thank you :)
Wishing the HAPPIEST of BIRTHDAYS to Sir-Neil,as he's the KING of the drumkit and forever will be!!! Along with wishing JUST AS AWESOME of BIRTHDAY to Sir-Troy here, who ALWAYS LEAVES US WANTING MORE after watching each and every video he posts!!! Happy-Birthday to BOTH You guys!!! Awesome Cover Troy and just because the mood struck me........I went downstairs and got on my drumkit and played this one right along with ya!!! ;)
I just wanted to say thanks. As a new Rush fan and longtime bass player I am really enjoying your videos. I don't know why it took me so long to find Rush but I am glad I did and now have this wonderful resource to draw from. Thanks again, Tristan
Superb playing........and the sound of that bass: wow! I had a pair of 4000's back in the early 90's. I deeply regret selling them. Very special sound from that single pickup
Happy Birthday Troy. Amazing as usual. Thank you once again for sharing these amazing bass covers and I inspiring us to keep moving forward with our playing.
My gosh, you play so clean! My drummer played in a Rush tribute band so he is always urging me (us) to play Rush tunes. Thanks for your help in that. I can't even imagine singing those tunes as well! Geddy has to be one of the most talented musicians of our generation...up there with Ian Anderson (to me)...
Troy, have you ever heard of a song entitled " A Lighter Shade of Pale " by the group Procol Harem? That's a family favorite. I lost 3 siblings in 3 years and we played the tape at each funeral service. I love it. Let me know. Marvine :-)
I've been playing along with some of your videos lately and they've been really helpful for me. I just started working on "Limelight" a few days ago, so it's cool to see you post an HD version of it. Thanks for all great bass videos.
Happy Birthday Troy, I was upstairs making bacon and egg tacos and swore this was a album playing , BUT NOPE, its Troys Amazing bass covers of Rush. Keep up the great playing, nothing better then your bass covers to put me in a great mood
What a coincidence. I was watching a video of Alex Lifeson demonstrating how to play this yesterday. Nice job as usual, Troy, and birthday greetings to you.
Nice playing, love the Rick w/ the pickup/upgrade. What a song and what an album, best album and best drummer of all time in my humble opinion, a masterpiece.
Nice job as always. Of course this album is about more than Rush, it goes back to that whole amazing time and era in the spring and summer of 1981, something only those of us who were teenagers then could understand. Sorry I missed you at the Priest/Purple show!
Spot on as usual Troy, Happy Birthday mate (coincidentally its my youngest lads birthday today also) ...... and i still say that bass would look better sitting on a stand in MY play room !!!
Troy, this is awesome: your tone, your technique, your passion and dedication! Thanks again for posting this remarkable along with so many other fine ones! Thumbs up!
Nailed it as always, you always do killer stuff but your Rush covers are always a nice treat. Man theres some cool little nuances that makes that bass line cooler than I originally thought. Geddy is good at that. Giving his lines little flavors that are easy to miss, but ultimately make his part more unique and shows how well it serves the song. Master crafter at bass.
How tf could anyone dislike this? This guy KILLS every cover he does... He is one of the best bassists I’ve listened too.
Thanks a lot.
You got that right
He's incredible......let the idiots be idiots
Don’t ever change your background, it’s just a signature to ur videos, love the cover man :)
It did become sort of an unintended signature, didn't it? Thanks Arben.
@@TJH3113 :)
Well done. A pleasure to see someone perform that so well!
Thanks a lot!
Happy Birthday Troy. Hope you have a great day and an awesome year ahead. Cheers
Thank you Constantine.
@@TJH3113 This is a huge coincidence but I am also named troy nicknamed tj and i also play bass

Another awesome bass cover
Thanks again!
Happy Birthday sir. Thanks for all the happiness you bring!
Thank you very much.
have you ever thought of providing rush bass lessons?
your playing and depth of rush covers is a treasure for us Geddy / Rush fans to watch
You sir, are a technician and great player with feel
You are too kind. Thank you.

@@TJH3113 way to go friend. The sound made me happy.

Here we are again. Thanks Troy!! You've really helped me over the last 4 years!!

Yeah, Lifeson's chords were so ambiguous. It's one of the things that gave Rush their signature sound.
