As our Pivot NFL Training Camp tour is underway, we make a stop at the nation’s capital to visit with the Washington Commanders under new ownership as the franchise works to restore the winning culture in DC.
Sitting down with the leader of the team. wide Receiver Terry McClaurin, Ryan, Channing and Fred gain an entire new perspective on the team and the direction they are headed since new hires in coaching positions and under a new regime of owners including Magic Johnson.
After years of ups and downs and a black eye over the team from previous negative ownership attention, Terry shares his excitement about the future, his confidence in the young explosive roster and how Eric Bienemy’s arrival as offensive coordinator has changed the trajectory of the team’s goals and standard level of play. Understanding that Washington has a previous reputation of being overlooked and a weak team, especially in the NFC East, Terry assures the guys that his team will be back this year and no longer the one that media and fans write off early in the season. Believing in Sam Howell as quarterback, Terry shares his excitement in the upcoming season and comparing him to the similarities of Joe Burrow.
Terry talks about the sudden passing of former teammate and friend Dwayne Haskins and how losing his friend changed his outlook on life and how he struggled to make sense of him no longer being able to live his dream out of playing football. Mental health is something Terry has embraced, taking seriously and opened up about his vulnerabilities which he feels has changed his frame of mind on and off the field, expressing that it’s ok for you to go to therapy, especially for men.

I ran into Terry at the post office and said how much I appreciate what he does for the team and he stood there and talked with me for 2 minutes about life. I was clear I didn’t wanna interrupt or take up his time but he was very gracious and humble and took the time to speak with me.

He ain't no damn superstar player he's average so he definitely like the rest of us that aren't in the NFL just a normal dude. stop making it seem players like him is better than all of us when they ain't on that level he's a good WR but no star or superstar just a dude who plays football

I’ve been a Washington fan for 40 years, and other than my fandom of Darrell Green, I have been Terry’s biggest fan since he’s joined our team. First Jersey I ever bought. I got Skins, WFT and 2 Commanders Jerseys now. I absolutely love him as a football player and respect him as a man. Even became a 1st time season ticket holder because I wanted to see him play in person and cheer him on. I may never meet him but my God I hope my team OUR TEAM makes him a Super bowl champion. Same for us! Even as two young girls, we sat and watched our uncles scream and holler about the game and tried to figure out why and when they were hollering. We just sat quietly, watched, and learned as they cheered for the Redskins watching a 19-inch TV. That automatically turned us into fans of the team. The first in-person game was at RFK Stadium in 1989 when the Cowboys only won one game that entire season, and it was against us. But boy, did we have a great time anyway just being there because the tickets were so hard to come by! So many great memories.
