- Mount Monadnock, in New Hampshire is the 2nd most hike mountain in the world, and the most popular mountain hike in all of the Americas. But does it suck?
In this video, find out if visiting Mount Monadnock is worth your time. Is it a great adventure or a circle of hell. You be the judge.
If you want to reserve parking for the mountain, check this website: tinyurl.com/Mo...
The “community” on top is like the folks on top of Cadillac (which you can drive to!)
You aren’t wrong.
I had assumed that the most crowded mountain is Pikes Peak…. I guess it’s hard for me to comprehend the population density of the north east
Yeah. Boston’s a big city, and Mt Monadnock is within spitting distance (not literally).
I live on MA/NH border, close enough to Monadnock, and it really doesn't feel that crowded until about 30 minutes outside of Boston. Except for at Monadnock itself.
looks good. I'm in northern Indiana. we have trails, but nothing like that. its enough to get some BP up, but there isnt a view at the end. thanks for posting.
I know how lucky I am to live in NH. It’s pretty amazing. Glad you get out, even without a view. The Sun is so important!
I like to zig-zag my way on the trails on the southwest side, away from the crowds. Of course the crowds are there when arriving at the summit.
The classic zig-zag!
I'll get over to Monadnock one day. Of course I likely won't do it midday on a holiday weekend. 😆 But it's like that anywhere, right? Newport's Cliffwalk is great but if you go at peak summer you're in for a conga line. Early bird gets worms and all that.
Seth, I’ll do it with you in the winter if you want. It’s pretty fun.
Husband and I did it this past March when it was snow covered, and needed our ketoula spikes. We had just turned 60, so it was tough, but sliding down made it easier(although my waterproof pants made me feel like I was going to careen off the side of the mountain). I hate crowd, so we try to hike mid-week when we're on vacation. Agree about Pierce. Moosilauke is also great, but needs to be done at an off time. Great video.
Thanks for watching! The Moose IS another great mountain. I’ve only ever hiked it in the winter, but I thoroughly enjoyed it both times.
Yeah, youd never catch me on this mountain. Too many uninhabited mountains to hike and climb , to be on a mountain dealing with crouds of tourists... Who know nothing about the outdoors, and old folks who just want a easy path, bless their hearts. Can't fault them for that, good to see em still getting out and enjoying nature the best way they can.. And Its good to see those tourists getting a taste of the outdoors as well - Hopefully itll spark a desire in them, desire to learn about and explore nature /god's creation .
But as for me, I like hikes where I don't see anyone the whole way. In Colorado, I always chose trails and mountains that I was least likely to see folks on. Every now and then Id do a more touristy trail, for the company and the excersize .
But Im like yall, I like the quite , less crowded trails the best . Yall be careful on them icy trails - that ice will hurt you bad . I slipped and busted my butt literally, cracked my butt bone . My feet went up out from inder me and I went down , way too fast to catch myself. That junk hirt real bad. I could barely walk/limp for about a week, it was 3 days before I could ski again. Ot was real bad and painful!
My buddies and I hike Monadnock every February, and can confirm it's a worthy adventure! Not nearly as many people, and it's a great excuse to strap on a pair of crampons and enjoy a little safe danger.
I do this one all the time but that's mainly because it's 20 minutes from my house. Pumpelly trail is a great workout and doesnt have a lot of people. I would probably off myself if I had to rub shoulders with entitled massholes every time i wanted a good workout.
Yeah, if you take White Dot/White Cross you’ll see a lot of people on the trail. Pumpelly or Marlboro will be less crowded but you still end up on the same summit with 1000 other people.
@@philsmith2444 it's also a gentle enough slope for the first 2.5mi or so that I can run that part.
Fair enough!
McAfee knob on the AT is like that. First time my son and I went to do that hike I couldn't believe how many people were on the trail that day.
My squirrel, "Mr. Nutter," was only slightly offended.
Smart squirrel. He is allowed.
Lol
Don’t hike but enjoy the videos
Thank you for watching!
Planning to hike Monadnock in two weeks, but I'm not sure how my stamina will be after covid earlier this month. Have you ever hiked up the less steep White Cross? Do you think it would be significantly less challenging to ascend vs. the White Dot? Also thinking about some of the lower trails such as Cliff Walk as alternatives to summiting just in case. Would you recommend any other trails in the park? Thank you for sharing your adventures!
@@laurenchristiemary2 I have not hiked the other trails, but I don’t think you would see a huge stamina difference between the dot and the cross. Most people do it as a loop, but you could always go up and down on cross. - If you are worried about stamina, why not try a shorter hike? Have you done Mt Major before? That’s a really fun one and could be a good step before fully jumping back in. Or you could do Willard or Square ledge, although those are a lot further away if you are in the Monadnock area.

I've done Pierce in late spring, lots of snow. Great hike. Have not done Monadnock yet.
I appreciate it!
Trail run this hill!! It is better to get past the people hiking!
Oh, I bet this would be awesome for trail running. Especially super early! Great idea.
No pets = no hike. Plus, I don't like crowds. This hike is not for me. But thanks for sharing! It's like I actually went :)
So many other pet friendly hikes around with fewer people. Lots of other options! Thanks for watching!
I did this hike a few years ago. I was quite tired by the time we were going down so I sat and slid down some of the rocks part of the way. They were steep and smooth enough. Next time I'll know better and pace myself.
I like your video and that you have recommendations for alternate hikes.
Thanks!
I’m glad you liked the video! I’ll always try to have other suggestions. I hope people find them useful.
Watching this video is NOT worth your time!
yeah... take a hike buddy... you need a beer serious hiker guy...
No pets allowed is a hard pass for me! Wouldn't want to go without my little buddy
Totally get that. I just learned that a lot of NH campsites don’t allow for pets, and that blew my mind.
