Karl knows this. My late father's pilot, Edward Dawson Kornegay, was an American from Texas who volunteered before Pearl Harbour. Joining the Royal Canadian Air Force, he trained in Canada before shipping to England. There he completed training, selected a crew and just before commencing operations, he transferred to the USAAF. He completed 58 operational missions with the RAF. I had the privilege of meeting him several times when he attended pathfinder reunions at RAF Wyton. An outstanding gentleman.

Thank you for your hard work, Karl. Nothing beats a Bristol Hercules XVI for power on take-off. I highly recommend everyone visit the RCAF museum in Trenton where they have a pristinely restored Halifax. And 3 frigging bomb bays! As much power as a Lanc, and the ability to do covert ops, Lancs couldn't. While CF-VRA will always have a place in my heart as she flew over my home in Belleville, and as my sons played in her landing gear, my Grandpa, S/Ldr Jay Culliton thought the Halifax was the cat's pajamas. Great video.
Lest we forget and Per Ardua Ad Astra!

Great video, its a very worthwhile project that I've already been following for a while. Regards Americans in the RCAF, a significant name that isn't mentioned is Bill Ash, a Texan RCAF Spitfire pilot who got shot down over France and captured. He was the real "Cooler King", and inspired the character played by Steve McQueen in The Great Escape movie. Ash's book "Under the Wire" is a great insight into the American in the RCAF experience.

My dad grew up in York during the war. He told me about the Halifax that crashed on his school on March 5th 1945. I strongly recommend anyone interested in the Halifax, the RCAF, or the air war, to google 'Halifax LW210 at Nunthorpe Grove, York'. The story is heartbreaking. There was one survivor from the crew, WOP/AG P.O. John Low from Montreal, who survived only because his 'chute was inflated by the exploding aircraft. While in hospital, he met his future wife, who followed him back to Canada after the war. I believe they went on to have 8 children. A number of people on the ground were killed or injured, including Italian PoWs who joined the rescue attempts.
