Sorry for the delay but I finally have a review on this season, with a lot more time to get my thoughts in. From a lot of initial backlash to having a bit less content in some areas like maps and kits, let's see if we reacted too harshly.

The disappointing season updates make Splatoon 3 feel like what once used to be a very strong passion that burned out really quickly. Which is sad, because this is one of the best shooter games in years, arguably even the best one.
I remember a pal saying that it feels like they wanted to make Splatoon a one-per-system series, and the Switch 2 was taking so long so they had to make 3 earlier than they would have liked. Plus I recall an interview shortly after 2’s final fest that they really didn’t have plans or a desire to make a third game in the near future. It’s far fetched in my honest opinion, but it is possible?
@@eXimiusMaxprobably, I always thought they should’ve waited until Splatoon 3 to come out until the next console but I guess COVID getting in the way of everything made they delay a bunch of stuff
Is more the fact that this game simply came too late in Switch's Life Cycle, when most developers inside Nintendo are talking about/developing for the next console
So, in many ways, they just want to get this over with and fully focus on developing the next one for the new console, which is understandable but unfortunate since this game had the potential that, in the end, it would never achieve because of being released too late
If this game released earlier or they simply updated Splatoon 2 even further than it did and then release Splatoon 3 in the next Console. This situation would be somewhat different since SRL could focus more on on the game itself rather than dividing efforts
@alpha34098 Even though it is lackluster, they still put a lot of heart and soul into everything surrounding Splatoon 3. It's a beautiful game with amazing design, lore, songs, and everything all around. Sad to see it go down like this.
Yeah, the update cycle and the amount of content we get with it completely killed my desire to play the game frequently and in large amounts. And its not like when i do come back every season to check it out theres a lot of stuff to explore. At least the tiny weekly update made it so theres a little new stuff every week. Now though? You come back every three months and have content that doesnt even last a single day. At this point i dont even look forward to seasons anymore because theyre just that disappointing.
the worst part is knowing that this also means next season will be a similar dryness or even be dryer for content cus no salmon map, only 1 map left, few kits left, little to no gear that hasn't returned, etc
We don't know for certain if next season will only have 1 map, considering it's the final season they might add more to make it special, it's probably wishful thinking but I think Sizzle season will have 3 stages added 1 from Splatoon 1, 1 from Splatoon 2 and a new Splatoon 3 stage
@@nathanblackburn1193 the map from each game idea is great, I hope you’re right honestly 🤞
@@nathanblackburn1193 It definitely isn't the final season, it's just the final season they've told us about. There are entirely new weapons that are in the files, but haven't been added to the game yet, let alone their second kits.
@@Gatchu137ik what ones you’re on about, i’m sorry to say they can very easily just all come at once. Ofc if the new ones DO come with only one kit each next season, sure THEN we can take that as a soft confirm there’ll be at least one more season, but it can happen is all I’m here to tell ya

I love how the main things people are exited about with a new season are the kits and maps... and those happened to be the things nintendo fumbled (very limited good kits and only 1 map)
Game NEEDS a content extention. If not for "content," at least a "fixes and changes" extension. There are so many problems that are still here since day 1, and if those aren't fixed in this game, even if we do get a new game or remake, we may still see those problems persist.
i agree, the way post-launch content has been handled is so bad imo, the season following the last one should have MORE content, you would think, but they don’t 💀 and there is quite literally no justification for only having one map this season other than the “aesthetic” reason of making the map selection screen look pretty, which would be a *terrible* reason. It just really frustrates me because so much of this really does seem like self sabotage 😭 the game should mainly revolve around what players want, but so many things in the game (small maps, lackluster balance patches, most weapon kits) seem like things only the devs want, for whatever reason.
I mean technically all we know is that Seasons are ending with Sizzle season 2024 (seasons meaning stages, gear, kits ((possibly)) and Salmon Run stages or King Salmonids)
@@bringbackthedarkness considering the ressources and possibilities Nintendo has access to, it seems like they dont care for our happiness
The "We'll update it in waves" format has never been better than just having things in the game from the get-go, much like ACNH (surprise surprise it's the same team), the game is launching essentially half finished at full price, but because it's Nintendo and "Lol dw guys we'll put things in later :)" it gets a pass from most people instead of being seen as the farce it is.
@@bringbackthedarkness It's only self sabotage if the sales suffer, but because people keep eating it up there's no actual repercussions. At the end of the day Nintendo wants to make money, so much like recent pokemon games, if they can make just as much money putting a half-baked product out as a complete one, why would they ever bother making something better?
The issue about the whole “No Lost Outpost or Ark Polaris” in Salmon Run issue is actually quite understandable if you give it some thought. There isn’t really a whole lot of places some of the new bosses (like Lids and Sticks) could go and fit (especially Outpost’s chokepoints and Polaris’ High Tide layout), but what really is the final nail in the coffin is that the King Salmonids have no chance at all of fitting in those two maps. Just think about it. No way Cohozuna is able to get through Outpost’s chokepoints, or how weird fighting Megalodontia on Polaris would be.
Ultimately, it is sad that those two stages can’t return, but after some thought it makes sense. Lost Outpost and Ark Polaris simply weren’t designed with Splatoon 3’s new Salmonid Run gimmicks in mind.
Also figuring out a path to bring the eggs back for tornado waves for those maps doesn’t sound particularly fun.
Also, those stages are small, so multiple enemies will be right next to each other, resulting in huge frame drops.
I mean. .that could have been solved with giving them a small rework. Widen the doorways in Lost Outpost, put some grates down and extend out the area a little. Polaris. . . not sure, but I didn't play much on it.
But what is actually stopping them from adding new ground on those maps and just extending areas out? If they want a 'lore' reason it wouldn't be hard to come up with something simple.
Beside, isn't Bonerattle Arena some kind of new rework/spiritual successor to Ark Polaris? I mean, both maps are about low grounds being relied to high grounds/the basket via (ink)rails.
surely this could be solved by making certain bosses simply not show up on maps they don’t work on. hell, they could give each map its own unique rotation of bosses to balance some of them out so you don’t end up with flyfish being overly tuned on certain maps (that damn ship) while buffing the remaining bosses to make up for the lack of threat the removed bosses would provide, plus it makes each map feel more unique with different gameplay required for each one
I think the biggest thing Tableturf needs is online multiplayer MATCHMAKING as we already have online multiplayer in the game, as that’s how we run tournaments. Matchmaking would make it much much easier for people to get into the game then having to first come find a small discord server to find ways to play with people.

I think the biggest issue with seasons is that we could very easily get content drops inbetween major updates (as well as just more frequent balance patches, which would fix a lot with the game's stale meta issues), but they want to stick to the structure they've set to their own detriment, meaning easy to implement content like weapon kits, returning gear, salmon run stuff, and tableturf cards/maps are added so much more slowly than they need to be. A mid-season content patch or two adding even just 4-5 weapon kits, some returning gear, and a few tableturf features could fix a lot of issues with the structure of the updates and could have gotten us to be almost half-way through third kits by now.

Imagine if after the last season in September we get the remaining second kits for every weapon that doesn’t have one, one new stage and then Nintendo reveals their new console and splatoon 4
ngl that wouldn’t be that exciting, considering that splatoon 3 has only been out for 2 years, so a splatoon 4 would seem greedy asf honestly. Not to mention that content would have been slowing down because of a new game that isn’t necessary? mmm idk
@@bringbackthedarkness true, but we are close to a new console at some point and *if* there’s no backward compatibility (which I doubt) ending the update stream all together to focus on the next project is plausible.
The overwhelmingly majority of responses to that would be "Why didn't you just wait to release Splatoon 3 with all of this content on the next console then?", which is what I've been wondering about since its announcement
@@TheFrantastic your guess is as good as mine lol
What colour do you want your unicorn while we're talking about fantasies
Think this season is my least played season yet, the kits put a damper on the season for from the get go and the flimsy balance patches didn’t help much. Best part of it was the bone rattle arena for SR but with it being the last SR map being introduced, was a bit sad but a solid map overall. Hoping sizzle season is a knockout
The Jpegs in bone rattle always takes me out
8:08 The "thanks for watching guys" sounds so broken, poor Chara man I feel you bro
Tbh the mid season patch impacted the game more than the actual season patch
Mid season patches overall are usually much larger than new season patches so it's not too surprising
So I really think 3rd kits are coming, and here's why. Excluding duplikits, the special breakdown is currently the following:
Trizooka: 7
Big Bubbler: 7
Zipcaster: 7
Tentamissiles: 5
Ink Storm: 7
Booyah Bomb: 6
Wave Breaker: 7
Ink Vac: 7
Killer Wail: 8
Inkjet: 5
Ultra Stamp: 6
Crab Tank: 5
Reefslider: 7
Tri Strike: 7
Tacticooler: 7
Super Chump: 5
Kraken: 5
Tri Splashdown: 4
Splattercolor Screen: 4
Initially, looking at this, I thought 7 was the standard, and we were going to get 7 kits for every special. That would mean 18 kits left. But then, I noticed that Killer Wail has 8 kits. There's no way it's going to be the only one with so many. I feel like everything has to be getting 8. That would mean 36 more kits. But then it dawned on me. If every special got just one more kit, we'd have 9 kits per special, or 3^2, which fits the theme of the game. (Let's ignore the fact that 8 is 2^3)
I am someone who also tries to be optimistic about these updates and sees the positives in them, but I do agree that the lack of content in this update does really disappoint me. I hate that third kits are commonly discussed on whether they will exist or not, they should have just been announced already. It is sad because I really wanted to see a lot from this game and it hasn't quite met that yet. I hope we do get a content extension for this game so that these updates don't leave a bad taste in our mouths.
I feel like Nintendo didn’t want to copy Splatoon 2 kits because they thought that Nintendo switch players would be calling the devs lazy for bringing back the same kits from the previous game, and wouldn’t feel any nostalgia as a result.
What people don’t understand is that some of those kits couldn’t have been better designed even with what Splatoon 3 has, many of which include jet pack as their special.
Also, it seems like there’s this running theme of inkjet kits from S2 being replaced with Triple Splashdown in S3. They did it with Emperries in Chill Season, and they did it again with Nautilus in Fresh Season.
I hope the next season won’t be the last and I hope we get 3 pages of stages because it’s splatoon 3, same with third kits because it’s splatoon 3, but the devs don’t seem to care about the 3 gimmick when it comes to content, or rather lack there of.

While all of this may be true, there's one aspect that hasn't been covered that I personally loved, and it was the new band Riot Act and their 2 songs.
That's also a weak point of this season for me. I think Shifting Stars is just okay, and No Plan Survives is bad. All the other season music was better except for Three-Horn Circus.
@@VMan776 What's so bad about No Plan Survives? That violin is absolutely beautiful!
@@jasonwalton9553 The song is short, which makes it quite repetitive over a 5-minute match. It also lacks a lot of energy, making it feel really bland.
@@VMan776Wild 💀
Riot Act is easily the worst update band yet in Splatoon 3. Gold Bazookas was an absolute high point, and H2Whoa was pretty good. Chirpy Chips new songs were insane. And then Riot Act came along. Literally just C-Side 2 with worse songs. No Plan Survives is really bland and repetitive and Shifting Stars feels like generic trailer music. Honestly an insult and would be the worst S3 band if Front Roe didn't exist
I find Fizzbangs being really interesting as a mechanic that specifically rewards splatting opponents, it's not really something that exists in Splatoon right now. If I had to guess, Nintendo is trying to shake up splatfests by adding a mechanic that makes running around and getting tons of splats feel super fun even if you aren't painting as much - so they definitely have Splatfests not being for everyone on their radar and are trying to address it!

5:08 I just noticed, maybe Bonerattle Arena is a sort of rework of Ark Polaris? They’re both stages with a high center area, and the ink rails could be the sort of equivalent of the ride rails from Ark Polaris. Also side note, the Orbit-Rail.floor from side order kind of reminds me of Ark Polaris, because you ride the rails in a circle around the stage.

Fizzbangs annoy me on a personal level...
It's like the devs noticed that their sub weapon balancing / distribution was lacking at the very best, and then gave players new not-burst bombs (presumably to make the tri-color 2v2v4 matchup more fair for more kits). And I'm not necessarily saying that this is an attempt at balancing, but more so a feature that only kinda works because they screwed up in the first place.
At the end of Splatoon 2 people were complaining about bomb spam, and I realize this isn't entirely the same, but I feel like if the kits were at least decent / more thought out for the most part, then Fizzbangs would be looked at in a more negative light (akin to more bombs to spam).
Again, not one to one, but just thinking about it kinda bums me out a bit...
Man remembering that pencil was undertuned makes me laugh cuz I got that 5 starred before it got any buffs

Pros:
● Marlin Airport is my favorite stage in the game that induces my high risk, high reward playstyle and I love airports and traveling so much. I'm so glad plane course exists and is a really fun stage to go on regardless of the mode (my favorites for it are turf wars, splat zones, and clam blitz). I do understand the frustration with not being able to go backwards on the stage when it's nessesary and even though I thought it was hilarious how plane course was spammed, I can see the frustration people had regarding it
● Thank god the sqiffer kit is really fun with zipcaster. It's the exact kit I wanted to for new kit too so couldn't be happier
●Fizzbangs look so cool, hype to combo with, and breathed new life into turf wars that gave purpose to pointless downtime
Cons:
● Why are so many of the new kits just ass?
● The final salmon run stage looks great and is fun but we needed more maps like it
●8 weapons doesn't cut it like come on
●Another chance to fix screen is gone
● "1 stage for normal and 1 salmon stage = 2 stages so stop complaining 🤓" I had to quote this from one of my friends and I think I don't need to explain myself
As a casual player I would give the season a 6/10 but on the competitive side I give it a 3/10 and the patch notes was in the right direction but still table scraps
I also made the joke that I wished on a monkeys paw for 3 wishes.
1. I wish for a stage revolving around a airport since splatoon hasn't seen that before and for it to use the fan mechanic I like in single player
2. I wish for squiffer to have zipcaster purely for fun
3. I want a new weapon to use in splatfest and for the balancing of splatfest to change

This was my first season so when I saw the content I was like "wow this is so much content in one update" and now I'm figuring out that apparently other seasons had EVEN MORE content 😂
I think we should stop expecting massive things out of each season and we should view them as small incremental changes that are part of a larger overall trend.

One theory as to why the season has so little content is because the switch 2 got delayed. Data mines show that there could very well be a handful of extra seasons (including new weapon classes) and it’s very possibly that they just moved some of their planned content to the next seasons.
Likely just wishful thinking, but there is evidence to support the possibility.
They only added 2 more weapons to the files, meaning 4 new ones for Sizzle Season ‘24. And assuming they do second kits for them right away, that would still put us at 10 or so kits.
@@Neoxon619 I do believe the Datamine showed two new weapon *classes,* and it would be extremely unlikely for them both to be in the same season.
In my opinion they should extend the support with an additional year of content.
They said two years but if there's really only one more map left to be revealed, then we need an additional year of content to add the missing kits, bring more returning stages and more.
Bring back maps that have yet to come back in Splatoon 3 and bring back the kits that have yet to come back.
EPD 5 probably needs all hands on deck for their next project, which is likely Animal Crossing.
The game still has matchmaking issues that they refuse to fix along with teammates who still don’t know what they’re doing despite this game being out for almost 2 years now

I don’t really think this season is that much worse than any of the other seasons, I’m very glad Marlin has a gimmick even of it is reused and Ancho-V is better, but hey I’m still glad about it as 99% of 2 and 3’s map design has been gimmickless which is my biggest criticism of it. Marlin is also a pretty decent stage imo anyway. And I really like Fizzbangs and how they spice up splatfests, and also Squiffcaster exists and I couldn’t be happier about it.
But the reason this season feels so much worse to me then all the others is it just dashed my hopes of a content extension entirely, with how there’s only 1 stage and I think they’re just trying to fill the private battle screen, and the last salmon map and all that. I really don’t think we’re getting anything else past next season and I used to have hope we would.
I don’t think any of the season updates are necessarily good since they do not keep me engaged for the 3 month dry spell you’re doomed to after and the season system relies on it being able to do that for me.
This is the most I’ve played splatoon 3 since launch but that’s entirely due to Side Order absolutely hooking me for an entire month getting me back into it, none of the new content.
There are like 4-5 new weapon types in the files, two of which are the new splatana and bow that haven't been added yet. They're probably not adding all of those new weapons next season, but even if they did, they wouldn't have their second kits.
I have never seen a more obvious "surprise, we're doing a content extension!" that Nintendo is famous for, and yet somehow this community seems confident that, against all evidence, the seasons will end with plenty of content still missing
@@Gatchu137 I want to believe you, I really do, but since I very much believe that the reason we never got a second stage this season was so that the private battle page would be perfectly filled up, and I have very little faith in the developers, _and_ if a new console is coming within a year from now they won't want to keep doing updates for the old system, especially if it isn't backwards compatable, I have my doubts to say the least.
Trust me, I want to be pleasantly surprised but I just doubt it greatly.
@@Bluebatstar There's every possibility that the next season adds the last stage, that doesn't matter.
Splatoon 2 did the exact same thing. Stages usually stop being added long before the rest of the content stops.
Quite frankly, I think the people who seriously think they're going to stop all content updates next season are delusional. Literally ALL EVIDENCE points to there being a content extension, and every live-service game from Nintendo in the past decade has done the same thing.
No they killed my hopes and dreams by giving Explo Splashdown.
Actually why is table turf not selectable on the map, it literally looks like there’s a missing slot on the select screen
I want to be positive and look at the development team trying to fix issues, such as adding fizzbangs in a way that is fun, but won't slaughter casual players. However, it feels like the game is pulled so thin with updates. I can't speak too much for ranked modes, but for Salmon Run it feels Eggstra Work was/is barely advertised and I am sad to see only 3 King Salmoniods. Especially as they are set in rotations now so the issue of "it would be hard for that King Salmoniod on this map" wouldn't be an issue. It feels like they have to put something for everyone in each season so people aren't disappointed, but then they only have enough resources to add one or two things pre-area. It is a shame things have to be tied to the season formula, since imagine how much more could be added if they had more time to do Salmon Run separate from ranked and timed events. I like Splatoon 3 more than Splatoon 2, but it feels like it keeps shooting itself in the foot. Like, how many new weapon types will be eating into pre-existing weapons since it would be weird to not give the recycled brella a second kit, but we only have 10 slots so sorry hydra splatling, you won't get a second one.
Video idea: N-ZAP Meme team
I have never gotten to play the airport map :(
It’s a shame that based on the leaks next season will also be similar with us only getting one new map. Maybe it can be saved with a new king salmon but I have my doubts
Yeah I think we might be getting one more king but that’s just a hope for now
It's so sad, this structure would be SO much better with more content, but instead I'm over here _lamenting_ that they added two specials to the game because they feel like suffocation. Everyone is dreading Screen and Splashdown on their weapons (I'm a Naut main...) because there are just so few kits happening so slowly!
Fizzbangs are really cool, but the updates roll out so slowly that it's like "awesome, aren't there are only three splatfests left"
And please, god, if the next season is the last and it has one map, that just feels like a slap in the face. We had to get the last two maps one at a time so there'd be content for both? The update schedule is slower than a mollusk and you STILL felt the need to stretch it? It's rough out here.
I think the reason why they gave Nautilus doesn't even connect to Nautilus.
Enperries and Blaster got Triple Splashdown, too, and both were Inkjet kits in Splatoon 2.
I think they didn't really care about whether it's a good special for the main weapon but instead just said "Triple Splashdown is an Inkjet replacement, let's just give it to all Splatoon 2 Inkjet weapons".
I wouldn't even care about the lack of new content, but I think the game is currently not in a fun state, it feels very draining. I REALLY needed this season to tune zooka donw and do some other stuff to liven up and change the meta. They didn't and now it becomes harder and harder to keep playing the game.
At least give -10 pts to rapid deco, Inkjet is not a thing anymore. qwq
Ok. Lots of mishmash of thoughts here, but. I wish they'd really committed to the whole "high accuracy and range" angle of the new brella that they advertised, and made a brella that feels a little more like Half Life or Doom's shotguns? It would have been cool to see a maneuverable, fairly accurate, slightly longer range Brella with the same gimmick where the shield has low HP. Something that, when it's next to tent, feels a little more like the way bamboo/squiffer/pencil feel next to splat charger/eliter. The brella we got isn't really that different from splat brella, and splat brella has better shield HP, so... I dunno. It was kind of disappointing to see them post about it like it would be radically different from splat brella and then it's just. Not.
I really want the reef to come back I’d be happy if it is the final stage
question: let's say splatoon 4 has to cut down on the number of main weapons. which would you rather trash? goo tuber or nautilus?
I will say, I'm glad we're not getting anymore salmon run maps mostly cause of the schedule. So, now you have to wait like at least a full week for a certain map. Is it a good reason to not add anymore? Not really, but I don't see Nintendo changing the salmon run map rotation given that they decided to wait a whole game to make Salmon run always available. So if we don't get more stages more often, then adding more stages just makes the stage rotation problem worse. Same *could* be said for battle maps, but they rotate far more often and have far more available at a time.
We better get urchin underpass in the next season or so help me god…
at least it's never too late for the devs to put in a long awaited good update that the game needs 🤣 they already got the gameplay foundations well enough so surely next season must be that season...
This is my first time playing splatoon and I apparently joined during the worst season 😭
The thing is that realistically speaking, with all the content the game has right now it defo is the best season to start playing in. "Worst season" doesn't matter when you haven't even been playing the game for more than 2 seasons
Us long-time fans are complaining about not enough new content. Realistically if you're just joining as a new player it shouldn't matter since it's just more content on top of what was already there
@@PigeonNintendo for sure!!! Especially with how much I have to grind ability chunks, salmon run, stars on weapons, getting all the gear, side order, etc. there’s such a large catalog of things to do. I just hope it lasts
angle shooter wavebreaker bamboozler kit when
This might be because they released it near/during Side Order, maybe they focused developing/finishing the DLC more than the season contents.
Logically speaking the bulk of the dlcs development would be happening farther from its release date
Fresh 2024 was carried by Bonerattle, Side Order, New Squiffer, updated emotes, and the Kraken Cheese fix but nothing except the first two makes me go WHOAAAA. I pick up at least one new kit introduced but I picked up Dread and N-ZAP instead. C-Liter and Naut 79 are nice but it's meh at best.
For a penultimate season, assuming Sizzle 24 is the last, it's disappointing. Definitely waiting for Sizzle 24 now.
SPUARE SHOW-OFF 3:46
nymvp mentioned the goat
Here’s what I hope/expect comes out for Sizzle Season 2024:
The last map of the game. I would like more new maps since it feels like we didn’t get enough. But 1 more map would make the map select screens look complete I guess.
The rest of the secondary kits. And hopefully brand new stringer and splatana with a gimmick because we are long overdue for them. Also the lack of variety with those weapons is kind of surprising.
Brand new King Salmon since we are seriously lacking in those.
I am hoping there’s a 2024 Chill Season that gives 3rd kits to many of the weapons, just like Splatoon 1 and 2 did late in those games life. Split the weapons between that season and Drizzle season 2025, just like those games did. Or is that hoping for too much?
Yeah we are 100% getting a new stringer and splatana
Seasons are ending at Sizzle Season 24 soooooooooooo
Does chara not realize that basically none of the bosses would work on ark polaris
Only 1 map this time so yes
