Great insight again. I should add that we should video ourselves playing matches too. I was shocked to find out how our court movement are so different from what we thought we are doing
Thanks Ian! This really hit my problem. 10 years of hitting wrong, much like your example, and a coach that said I probably need about 10 lessons to correct my forehand.... 2 YEARS later and I am still falling back to my old habits because I mainly play matches and only once a week coached. There is definitely an improvement BUT yes, it could have gone much faster if I would have followed your advice. 🙂
I've just bought a ball machine and started filming myself - both essential if, like me, you're rubbish. The machine is a tireless hitting partner that will let you practice and practice and the filming will highlight everything you think you're doing correctly but actually are not. By filming yourself regularly you should see a progression from being a stiff plank (me, today) to a Roger Nadal (me, next year)
I just want to say thank you for all your content. Where do you physically gave classes, I mean your team inside USA. cheers from Mexico @EssentialTennis
Hi Ian, have you ever done any videos with any experts about people with permanent specific permanent injuries trying to work around them and enjoy tennis at similar levels before? In case I’ve lost complete use of right eye (was dominant) as a righty playing with a single handed backhand at maybe 3.0-3.5). A lot of online information seems almost anecdotal as opposed to specific when I’m trying to find how to manage expectations and create a path of improvement. Thanks in advance. Probably not an easy question to answer lol.
I use YT videos to learn not to do in tennis and also who not listen too! The best thing players can do is record themselves and watch the videos of themselves. But the key thing is to actually get out on the courts and practice and play.
I’ve learned so much… but I think I’m done with the latest click-bait videos from Essential Tennis. Sorry you’ve chosen to go down this path. I hope it brings the rewards you’re hoping for.
I have zero connection to Essential Tennis (in fact, I live in Japan). If your coach is not interested in using video--find a coach who is! I have used video on several occasions and have been shocked every time. I couldn't believe how the image in my head and the image caught on camera were so polar-opposite. It was astounding!
I need to learn the maximum ranges of my shots............so that then I will understand how much speed & direction can I cut down on so that I can hit "in" shots.
@@EssentialTennis Definitely but I like the philosophical meaning of that phrase. Its true that you can get a serve in the box with a pancake grip but there is a better way ;)

Thanks for your video. I am having problem putting all the steps together.

Oh... So some people still get upset with click -bait. Or was it the actual content?
What title and thumbnail do you recommend for this lesson @rbrianharris?
I had to suggest this to my coach , he wasnt really interestd

@@EssentialTennis filming my forehand , he should look at this video he might learn something,

Which app do you use and recommend for recording videos?
What video software are you using to record and play back?
It's called "OnForm".
@@EssentialTennisthank you for sharing. 👍👍👍
Great content, as always!

Keep up the good work on your game!
anytime a tennis teaching "professional" says compare your swing to an ATP pro you know you need to get a new teaching professional
Who should we compare ourselves to?
Rick Macci said it best: It's not a right way, or a wrong way, there is a better way. ;)
I dunno...there's definitely some "wrong" ways 😆
