Thank you SO much for this tutorial! I adore Roans, but with my jittery hands and ridiculous impatience I already feared I could never do a detailed Roan with the Hair by Hair method. But the Fan Brush method seems to be REALLY up my alley. I don't know about pencils, I might try to mix that with the Fan Brush method, to get a more diluted look where the roaning sits. Without this video I might not have bothered with Roans anytime soon, or at all. So thanks a ton! :')
Hi, I'm a long time breyer collector (2100+) in Wisconsin. The model horses you paint are beautiful!!!! Kudos to you. I like your collection display and the model horses how to videos. Back in the early 90's I painted over 100 models, the medium that I used was spray paint. When the models were dry I'd paint the eyes, manes, tails and hooves with brushes. I had a few that looked like OOAK's from breyer. Take care and I wish you the best in all of your endeavours. Peace On Earth. Joel Cawthon/ Drafty Acres. :)
so this might sound like a dumb question how do you make a blue roan and what should you use to make them? like what kind of paint should you use or would art pencells work better? I kind of want it to look realistic I am just afraid on how to do it any suggestions? I like your blue roan and how do you add shadings?
I am into Horse of a Different Color and Trail of Painted Ponies horses and I cringe when I get a horse with a broken tail - Thanks so much for your tutorial - I'm excited to try your technique
This video relly us full I've just started doing re paint and I'm planing on doing a liver roneing German short haired pointer will this tecknek work for that as well .
It looks to me like the head was of the Rearing Arabian stablemate and the body was of the thoroughbred stablemate, just with a resculpted neck to join them
I only seal layers I feel need to be sealed. There are certain benefits/downfalls to sealing each layer depending on the project. The only exception is when working with pastels - as ALL those layers must be sealed.
DeeJayBe Studios I got the same pencils as the ones you were using and I used an airbrush with golden highflow acrylics. I was trying to roan an area of light grey, would it be it’s just not showing up?
I want to buy two sets of the same horses keep one of the horses and bleach the other one so I can costume paint it or draw on it like this and sell them but hopefully I can do this with my other career on track
Honestly don't know what I would do without your tutorials lol

Excellent! I'll finally have to get a fan brush, since I'm doing 1:6 scale. TYSM
that is my favorite paintbrush for watercolor painting. Windsor Newton.

Amazing paintwork !!! 😊😊
Amazing video! (Just like always) I was just wondering if you also paint schleich and/or collect a models. Hope you have a great day!
I don’t normally no, but I have a few bodies
Very cool, I don't have the peace for that, lol
can you do a tutorial on how to do manes and tails with multiple colors?
xNeinxX I believe she has reasently!!
I like it.
This is awesome by the way!!!!
hey what horse model was the one 7:00 minutes into your video?
It was a resculpted stablemate. I used a couple different bodies and pieced them together.
It looks to me like the head was of the Rearing Arabian stablemate and the body was of the thoroughbred stablemate, just with a resculpted neck to join them
Where did you get the shire body?
Do you make the shadows with airbrush to or use a pastel?
A bit of both! It depends on the colour and the model. Often I hand paint acrylic for the face.
Do you seal after every layer of work? Then a final seal?
I only seal layers I feel need to be sealed. There are certain benefits/downfalls to sealing each layer depending on the project. The only exception is when working with pastels - as ALL those layers must be sealed.
@@DeeJayBeStudios Awesome! Thank you, I was worried I wasn't sealing enough...
Awesome your video !!the princeton brush what number is ?
I’m not sure. I use Windsor & Newton Series 7 Kolinsky Sable now size 000
the celestial brush large Princeton
Method 3 fan brush
The white pencils don’t stick for some reason and don’t show up great. Any ideas why?
the finish of the model must be the right consistency - if your pencil doesn't draw on an OF Breyer, it's likely the wrong type of pencil as well.
DeeJayBe Studios I got the same pencils as the ones you were using and I used an airbrush with golden highflow acrylics. I was trying to roan an area of light grey, would it be it’s just not showing up?
Light grey is not enough contrast for the white to show up on. You need a slightly darker base coat.
♥♥♥
Am I going blind. I can't see the link to the book. I swear I probably missed it.
I want to buy two sets of the same horses keep one of the horses and bleach the other one so I can costume paint it or draw on it like this and sell them but hopefully I can do this with my other career on track
How many roans do you have?
Can you please do a full face tutorial like nostril bulkup and cheeks and nuzzel please
I’m trying it now with pencil and it doesn’t work...
Keep trying!
Have any other ideas are how to paint a roan without that pencil?
She literally put 2 other methods in the video xD
@@flufflewarrior I realize that now, I did do a roan with a pencil but it looks lol crap lol
@@Ilovecrystals922 same here xD I was so excited to try it, but now it just looks stripey and weird xD
@@flufflewarrior yeah, I am going to do it over...maybe it won’t look like my horse has white strings on him XD
Hey, where r u from? I mean, sorry for the date, but your surname sounds like Polish and curious ':D
