If you want a middle of the road smf upgrade u can go to the stock smf that came on basemodel early 320i without AC. They came from the factory with smf and sprung clutch disc. Its a bit lighter than the dmf and has a more direct feel.
Best thing I did to my 328, hook the engine out and drop in an M54b30 with a lightweight flywheel. 👍🏼

the best single performance mod for an e36 is a diff ratio swap
