All 25 Scrapped Pokemon That Were Redesigned For New Games

- Scrapped Beta Pokemon are some of the most fascinating parts of the franchise. However, the ones that Gamefreak reuse for new games intrigue me the most. So here's every lost/cut/scrapped pokemon design that was brought back in some way for later generations. - as of now.
Spaceworld demo, korean build, pokemon art, gold & silver, red & blue, gen 1, gen 2,

That beta tyranitar looks like a substitute
I think so too, substitute's design must've been inspired by that sprite
Makes sense that Solgaleo got a scrapped design in gen 2, it got foreshadowed in the 3rd Pokemon movie
That’s a stretch. But I will say it was a coincidence
@Keng04T The book Mollies dad reads also foreshadows Arceus with a God like interpretation surrounded by Unowns. Gamefreak plans content ahead just not the quality of their games
@@startheangel9760THAT’S NOT FORESHADOWING
@@DigiRangerScott what do u mean
You forgot that there was a beta gen 2 design of a stork carrying a baby in a bag, maybe that would've been revisited in Bombirdier
From what I checked James Turner didn't design Sirfetch'd. But he did design the Galarian Zigzagoon line, the Centiscorch and also Golurk and Golem, etc.
Good to know! I like the other ones.
LMAO, aired on april fools.
Serious note, I'm over here still coping for Gorochu to be added, & it's nickname is called The Mad Rat Of Kanto.
Really puts the "goro" in gorochu
Missed opportunity, Gorochu could have been introduced as a paradox Pokémon that had a rivalry with Koraidon in the past. And it's counterpart could be a serval or lynx sized robotic Eevee which can be paired with miraidon. I know it's hot take because It's like having a legendary version of Pikachu and Eevee. But that could be setup as two to be the ethnic legendaries of Paldea while koraidon and miraidon could be categorized with Mewtwo as a modern age legendary to a region that is an anomaly.
I’m waiting for the cut“Hitmonryu” to be added
The dragon of Pokémon
My theory is they actually revisit/remaking more beta pokemon in Gen 9, Paldea.
Ee never saw the beta design leak because now they are very careful not to leak a beta design anymore.
The reason is Paldean pokemons are wierd, some of them are very detailed, some of them are very simple. It's like combining different pokemon gen.
Makes sense tbh, sooner or later, if you got over a thousand official Pokémon and probably thousands of scrapped designs/concepts, you're eventually gonna have to revisit your old conceps
I use the trash bag wormadam alot lol
considering everyone thought Gen 2 be End of Pokemon at the time, i bet Gamefreak thought Gen 4 was going to be end of pokemon at the time as well so they thought "we better use these old designs".
Interesting take!
Gen 4 was the end of the classic, "Japonese regions" era, so that's probably the reason
Lickilicky's tongue may be shorter than Lickitung's, but remember that some of Lickilicky's Pokedex entries say it can extend its tongue to many times its normal length (The record is 82 feet, according to its Ultra Sun Dex entry). Lickitung, on the other hand, can only do twice its height. So it's an upgrade in my book.
3:45
I used a Trash-Wormadam in my Legends Arceus playthrough, because I happened to run into one and I find it cute. It wasn’t exactly the back-bone of my team, but it came in handy sometimes and I liked having it around.
So after all this years I just learned the Substitute sprite is actually a beta Larvitar design.
The majestic Lion could be a way to make ppl believe thats the 4th legendary in the painting with the bird trio instead Arcanine, bc it really looks a stronger arcanine
The fact that some actual beta designs were better than normal Pokémon are insane. Also, what's the background music you use? I have a very faint memory of the first one.
National Park!
@@Turtlebro Thank you! :D
0:51 everyone says that’s tirtouga when that’s clearly Lugia look at the face similarities it’s on point
That is literally lugia’s face on a turtle’s body
Lugia was an invention from the anime. The director got granted a whole original pokemon design to promote his second movie.
Lugia was afterwards added way late into the game because of its popularity. You can clearly see he's not in any of the betas.
9:41 would argue that this evolution line possibly takes more from Oshawatts's line in Black and White.
Would also make a little sense and give an inside joke as to why the anime had Ash's Oshawatt and Piplup beef.
Old Farfetched evo looks like he's gonna start busting rhymes in a 90s hip hop music video.
Those Tyranitar ones look like Godzillant, a Pokémon from a very early concept sketch of what the battle screen would look like when they were planning Gen 1. Basically just tiny Godzilla lol. And it was battling a King Kong equivalent.
Welcome back Tutrle Kyodai
8:43 maybe it’s just me but it bears a striking resemblance of the Substitute Doll.
I thought the same
Hope we get that Baby Meowth one day.
In gen 1 there was an npc which mentions a pink pokemon with a floral pattern outside of rock tunnel on the lavender town side. The description sounds suspiciously like munna.
The beta fire starter from the Gold/Silver demo was changed into Teddiursa.
9:43 honestly i love this design. Wish we got it in some gen
the larvitar beta design kinda looks like the design of the substitute doll.
The only thing that could fix me right now is a Mauville ramen bowl
9:38 if that was the water starter I would have picked typhlosion
I wish Tirtouga had kept its old skull ridge. I like how it resembles a top-knot or male pattern baldness. I feel like it would have had a more inspired evolution.
Kinda looks like lugia the head aspect
I’m glad mime jr was scrapped in gen 2 we got the perfect design
The scrapped Farfetch'd evolution could still come back if they make an Italian-inspired region.
I feel like that Beta Tortuga may have been an early design for Lugia, just based on the eyes
I do think that was just Sugimori's art style, if you notice a lot of the pokemon he drew at the time had similar features. The Farfetch'd evo had similar arms to Lugia too.
Uhhhhh...... I used Burmy
It's kinda ironic that despite it was planned for gen 2/Johto, Leafeon can't be evolved in HGSS but through DP
Was sharpening my axe waiting for that Leafeon answer.
I still waiting for the pre-evo of meowth come back, it’s incredibly cute
I really like that one too
I know there was a mecha dinosaur looking pokemon (Omega I think it was called) that looks alot like the Paradox Pokemon Iron Thorns (Future version of Tyranitar)
Great work with the presentation of this video! It’s sooo clean and I love all the content you pulled for it. Definitely earned a sub here!
Thank you! I appreciate that a lot.
Find it interesting how much beta Tyranitar looks like the substitute doll
Burmy fan. I really like Mothim and its Autumn looking color palette.
burmy is my wife’s fave pokemon, she has plushies of all 3 forms! need to sound off on her behalf
Hahaha I love that
Burmy is my favourite pokémon, but no I don't really use it a lot, I just like it, and do use Wormadam sometimes, though I prefer the ability to change coats even if you don't get the mechanical advantages until you evolve.
Early sirfetched looks like its a dj trying to scratch a record
My favourite type of unreleased. Pokémon are the ones that are just a flower blob thing
For some reason I've been convinced that leafeon and glaceon were introduced in gen 3 for all of my life. I didn't believe it at all when he said leafeon is gen 3 so I googled it and my life has been changed forever
9:34 I kind of see Verizion just a little bit. Obviously it isn’t but still lol
Really wish that ancher shark was real
Me too!
I wonder if bellboyant will be redesigned or if it was reused for delcatty. I do like delcatty
Also around 9:26 that "crocodile" looks more like a dragon and reminds me of dreepy.
It is confirmed it was crocodile though. Its name was Crocky
The bell cats? I think they were definetly reused for Skitty and Delcatty. Bells and the Moon are parts of their designs even though they've been made less obvious
I can say that Gen 4 bring back a lot of concepts and pre-evolutions and evolutions to the Pokemons because of Dialga (the God of Time).
I feel like they used the scrapped Farfetch'd evo more for Swanna than Sirfetch'd.
You might be onto something!
Possible. Since most Gen 5 designs (not all of them, but some surely are) are basically a revisitation of Gen 1 designs. Ducklett could be Gen 5's Farfetch'd, with Swanna being a revisitation of the scrapped evolution. I mean Swanna has also feminine traits, and the whole "ugly duckling to beautiful swan" theme fits more on a western duck pokémon more than it does on a duck pokémon based on a japanese saying. Meanwhile Sirferch'd could be the result of game freak's will to still give an evolution to Farfetch'd, though Sirfetch'd design while still being western inspired now fits because it is the evolution of Galarian Farfetch'd, also it is more masculine, maybe a counterpart to Swanna's more feminine portrayal
What a shame they didn't reuse Kotora in the latest gens...
Too late, it's mine now HAHAHAHAHA
I really like Kotora's design, I wish they bring it back someday
I LOVE BURMY AND MOTHIM!!!!!!!
I've known about the Spaceworld leaks since they came out but never about the Korean leaks which contain different Mons entirely. How on earth, and why does it still seem obscure relative to the other leaks?
It's not as talked about as the spaceworld demo, in fact I only found out about it for the first time while researching this video. Korean Build was from early-ish 1997 I believe, and I don't think there's a playable build online (correct me if i'm wrong anyone)
Burmy is one of my favorite Pokemon!
2:19 honestly, im glad it got cut. That one was so ugly, leafeon is so much better
My Dreams Is to have back raitora without redesign
Not a burmy fan buy i know a guy who's a wormadam lover. There really is one for everyone out there
I use Burmy Cause I like Mothim
I AM A BURMY FAN
Burmy 4 life
they should've kept the stars on ledian :( I feel like I've been robbed, ledian is already cute but the stars ;-;
I have a confession…. I like burmy and wormadam. There I said it, let the judgement begin! But seriously idk why. I liked hunting for them in arceus and then a pkmn card came out with all 3 burmies on it. They were just hanging around together and straight up look like they’re gossiping, with one even looking a bit scandalized and i just fell in love with the stupid bag worm even more.
That card sounds amazing
@@Turtlebro i just looked it up it is the 9/172 in sword and shield brilliant stars. It still makes me laugh
As a professional on cute...
I prefer the gen 2 licklickylicky licky 😅
And it would probably get cuter in new gens... well maybe not. Raichu go done DIRTY. My phat boiiii. Luckily they brought in Alolan Raichu.
Burmy love ❤
Popplio
ok
What I don't like about Regional Evolutions is that the original version still needs an evolution. I would love to see Farfetch'd's beta evolution to get added. So Kanto's Farfetch'd would evolve into the Beta Evolution, and Galarian Farfetch'd evolves into Sirfetch'd. Just like how Yamask evolves into Cofagrigus and Galarian Yamask evolves into Runerigus.
By the by, I've got to say: I just hate that Mr. Rime isn't called Sir Mime. It fits the design better, and it would've kept the trend going that their title evolves with them (Jr. Mr. Sir). Mr Rime could be a future Kanto's Mr. Mime Evolution's name and I can imagine it being based on a French mime, appearing in Legends Z-A
