I appreciate that. I am 20 years old and come from the era of CDs and mp3s...but even still, I bought this soundtrack album on record. And when I discovered "Ballad for D," I was entranced. Wish I could just get it an mp3 version to put on my Zune. Until then...gotta play the record. Once I bought the record, I discovered CD copies were made...
It took me 29 years to finally find out the name of this song. And now I can't find it on any of Roberta more recent Best Of cds. Can you say damn! I have been searching high and low for this song on cd.
This song is from the soundtrack album of the movie BUSTIN' LOOSE... I have it on vinyl. It can be hard to find. There could be record company politics involved as to why it's not on Robert ' albums. The soundtrack was on MCA and Roberta recorded for Atlantic Records. MCA probably won't licence it to Atlantic for a Greatest Hits compilation.
HUGE IN THE NYC... this trax still has much magic within... that Miller cat sure has SKILLS... THE HAIR ON MY NECK STANDS WHEN I HEAR THAT LEGEND PLAY BASS GUITAR! @tomtomclubmix .. THANK YOU FOR THE SLAMMIN THROW BACK! keep em comin..Port!!
It's funny, Roberta Flack has one of creations' most singularly beautiful voices... BUT when she wants to, she can jump Funky. I once saw her at a LIVE Performance, turn "Sweet Georgia Brown" on it's head and FUNKED IT UP!!! MAGNIFICENT TALENT!
This song won't show up on any of Roberta's regular compilations or albums because the soundtrack was not released on Atlantic Records, but MCA, a competing record company. It was written by Gwen Guthrie (Ain't Nothing Going On But the Rent; God Don't Like Ugly), a great friend and former background singer of Ms. Flack's AND an artist in her own right! I LOVE THIS TRACK! Especially the background "Oooo-oooo" part!
2024 IN DA HOUSE! I HAD FORGOT ALL ABOUT THIS BAD ASS JAM!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I always think about Bustin' Loose, starring Richard Pryor. aww he is so missed.
This should've been the theme to "Bustin' Loose."
OMG!!!
I have been looking for this track for a minute.
I was 9 years old when I first heard this cut and saw the movie.
The movie was OFF THE CHAIN.

That funky ass guitar player is Georg Wadenius. He with Buddy William's, Marcus Miller and Barry Miles fill out this funky rhythmsection.
If I could just get my hands on the instrumental with the saxophone lead I'd have it made.
fantastic
Many thank to you both. Sometimes it's great to have alonger version when there was not one.
Buddy, Marcus, Georg, Barry & the Cats...
