DAMN RICHARD i'm going to need a streamable pittsburgh audio playlist / album / soundtrack with documentary / show about cryptids, nature and synthesizers. i'm so excited for the pittsburgh drum machine DAMN
West Pest is a synth that makes you look forward to the results you may or may not get, and makes other synths more than willing to communicate with it 🙂 Great film guys!
Already preordered one from Thomann. 😊 The currently available demos sound just awesome and there's definitely too few affordable west coast gear out there. The closest "setup" to west coast synthesis, i currently have, is a Pittsburg Microvolt 3900 and two Capt'n BIG-O modules. Two BIG-O combined can get pretty close to way more expensive "complex oscillators", as the BIG-Os have a wavefolder and overdrive / soft clipper each and offer linear and exponential FM. So i'm very excited for the West Pest as it will greatly expand my "west coast arsenal"! 😄
I picked one of these up last night. It sounds AWESOME! Thanks for the wonderful instrument! A few things: The manual has a few minor mistakes and could use another pass. And PLEASE document which MIDI 1/8"-to-DIN type is required. :)
I hope someone sees my idea here. I just jumped into semi-modular starting with a b2600, grandmother and a west pest and some extra noodles. (awesome y'all included 5 shorties) So as I am playing with these 3 patch animals, I noticed a problem that I am having WITH ALL 3. The problem is sync'ing or clocking the lfo. Instead of work-arounds that tie up other things and are iffy, I would like to have a triple LFO module in a pest/beast chassis. All clockable separately or multed together AND the ability to pass clock and sync through. Most of my synths do not pass the clock through if set to ext clock. Finally, IMO, there are more owners of semi-modular gear than owners of modular setups and I think that a few key stand-alone utility modules would do well.
Quick question: Looking at the patch bay, I see that the pitch and gate outputs have a small "MIDI" icon in front of the labels. What does this signify? Are these normal, eurorack compatible CV outputs? Does the device only output pitch and gate for incoming MIDI, or also from the sequencer? Also, does the device come with the usual mini-TRS to DIN dongel(s) for the MIDI in- and output, and which "style" of MIDI over TRS is used here?
I love it.. but I already have a microvolt, Sooo I'm good on this.. but hurry with the new voltage lab please!! My microvolt will be off to reverb!! Sad...
@@richardnicol I emailed my big synth friend (I'm just a hobbyist) and he said "What are you waiting for?" So I just ordered one. And you should too! This will be my second semi-modular synth so it should be very cool to explore how they interact together.
@@richardnicol I kinda thought they would; all of my older PM Cell [48] System synths came with some (but I forgot to ask about the MIDI adapter cable)…
fun unit, i like it. but really wish cre8audio would provide a change log for the firmware updates on their download page, even if the 31 step thing is a little embarrassing. More embarrassing is the readme file in the westpest's v0.9 update zip, file is named "README East Beast Update.txt", and includes the text "6) Click the Load button and select the WestPestV0_8.dfu file located in the same folder as the updater". Come on fellas...
I bought a West Pest but had to return it because it did not work with any of my MIDI controllers. I bought a second West Pest from a different retailer, hoping that my previous problems were just a faulty unit but no. My second West Pest also does not work with any of my MIDI controllers. Major note-hanging (both pitch and gate) issues. Unplayable. Is anybody else encountering this problem re the WP and MIDI or is it just my enormous bad luck? It's a shame because I love the WP sound and the sequencer is a lot of fun but I just can't get it to work as a MIDI sound module. Anybody got any ideas/solutions?

That thing of taking yourself very serioulsy while trying to make it seem like you're light hearted and tounge in cheek. A pretentious version of 'joking not joking'.
No one ever does a Central Plains style synthesizer: Wind generators, windscreen filter, windfolding, and tornado processing.
Truth. Food for thought.
I would preorder this without hesitation. 🤪
It's just a jug you blow on
ALL noise sources!! NO oscillators!!!
The best synth promotion i've ever seen.
this documentary is a masterpiece... it blows the mind in many many directions.

Thanks! Guess I'll get back to work.
@@richardnicol go ahead and get that vacation in, and take your time. Gotta start saving for all that's to come!
It's super cool to see the sounds of wavefolders and LPGs become more accessible!
Ordering now. This is so cool. You guys are killing it
Loving the sounds, so much for so little asking $, and it has limitations that you will need to overcome by being creative, and that is priceless.
Just arrived! Looking forward to twiddling!

Exceedingly DOPE!!! Please send a ton to Perfect Circuit. I'm on Preorder. This is THE most exciting new synth of the year!😎
The background music of this video is the bomb....
Will preorder both soon, definitely will be a great modular duo 🔜
That demo really cool !
So much love for this great video🌸🌸 💖
Love this.
Will probably get one.
Best wishes for your continued success.
Midwest Synthesis is sample based chaos that says "ope sorry" at the end.

LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! .... AND PRODUCTS of course !🙌
Appreciate the kind words!
Certainly more gnarly tones than the polite Midwest Guest. That one won't get released because it sounded too cheesy.
Oh, I get it. It’s BEEfy. He really buzzes and hums. Good piece of kit for sure.
I can't believe I did not think of BEEfy! That is too good.
very cool sounding synth
Picked up my East Beast today... waiting for it's less well behaved brother.
wow...an affordable west coast synth? I thought this is not possible.
sounds and looks nice.
This thing is very promising indeed. But do not forget Volca Modular - I made an entire ep with that machine
You guys are nuts!!
sounding great! will there also be a south mouth and a north worth?
Oh, no, that was strategy! To get us to give you $500! Well played.
Insert Cre8audio *evil laugh* here.
Awesome. I like the color scheme on this one too
This and the East Beast look like home runs to me.

5 mins of my precious lifetime, I'll never get back!

Dont forget to send some to Zzounds!!!!!!
I'm in love

I already have the east beast on pre-order … now shut up and take my moneyzzzzz
Just got message from thoman east beast is delayed (again) if I order directly. Will I receive my goods faster?
Yay, but seems to be 2-3 weeks before any of the UK sites will have any in stock
East Beast is arriving first and then the West Pest a couple weeks later.
@@Cre8audio But but but but....Buchla! ;-)
Buchla rocks!
@@zpinkLondonBelow All the respect for Don and love for our friends doing great work at Buchla!
My order from three weeks back has just turned (once I found out where Parcelforce had left it!).
Could I potentially use this to sequence a Strega or for MIDI to CV conversion?
Yep! The built in MIDI converter can output gate, 1V/octave, and an assignable MIDI CC for expression
How are they holding up any problems with the build quality
Nice! Is the background track available somewhere?
Sorry, I never mixed it as a song. It was arranged for the video and sounds a bit all over the place out of the context of the video.
Does this (and the East Beast) include a few short patch cables (to properly encourage experimentation)?
Yes, they each come with a pack of noodles patch cables and a midi adapter cable.

Hi @Cre8audio. Is this available for Preorder yet? The link on your website for preorder looks linked to another product item. TIA
Sorry, fixed now!
No worries. The link is fixed now.

Hey Guys the background song title?
I don’t believe it has a title. It was written specifically with the West Pest for this video.
Then you have to create it! hahaha
