- We're still in 2018, and King's second release - an uplifting Castle Rock story called Elevation, which - despite what it might say on the front cover - is not a novel! It is good though, so let's talk about it.
In this video, I'll give you 19 reasons to read Elevation, and will cluster any spoilers towards the end with a warning before they appear so you can bail if you need to.

This story really made me smile I feel like king has really honed his writing with this one it was so funny. The ending was really uplifting 😂
Totally
Not my favorite, but also not worth bullshit and negativity that it gets. It is nice to finally see someone pointing out some positive things about this one. Great video Dave.
Thank you!
Hey Dave good video I I really enjoyed it happy spooky month
Thanks, right back at you!
@@DaveReadsKing do you know Mr Beast
@@samtubebackagainramey6971 yep, great album by Mogwai
Was a fun book for sure. I wish they would release all Kings short stories as single books. That would be cool.
Yes! And expensive! 😂
Love this one... I listened to it on audio, read by King himself 💙
Oh cool! I really need to get into audiobooks
This is such a strange little story. A lot of people rank it towards the bottom of King's bibliography, and I understand why, although I find it hard to hate on it. It's such a weird book, and it doesn't have much in the way of plot, but it is quite charming.
Agree very strange story. But I’d still rate it 3 stars. I’m in no rush to reread it though!
@@matthewmedley8532 that's a perfect assessment
Definitely weird, definitely charming - I’ve enjoyed it both times I’ve read it
It's a fucken great book it feels a lot like drunken fireworks
Fun, quick read. A nice palate cleanser after reading a bunch of bleak novels earlier in the years. Great video Dave!
Thank you! And yeah, a definite palate cleanser 👍
I couldn't help but start singing Creed's "Can you take me higher" at the end.
😅
This book has always intrigued me a lot maybe it’s time I finally read it, seems right up my alley!
It’s definitely worth a go!
Sound-fussy guy from past comments, here. Congratulations on the new mike. The videos are now PERFECT, good sound and image to match very good content.
I happen to be reading FAIRY TALE at the moment when Charlie counts bills in the cannister just before Bowditch is supposed to be back from hospital on Monday and tell him a big secret. That's 13% into the novel.
I wonder how bad the book will get, since you said in your review the better part was in the first 100 pages. So far so good.
Contrary to popular belief, I Iiked ELEVATION very much, 9 out 10 for me.
Nice! And glad the mic has made a difference!
You might want to read a short story (it's not a novel or a novella!) by H. G. Wells called "The Truth About Pyecraft" which does a similar riff on this theme. Fun Fact: H. G. Wells and King share a birthday, September 21st. (About eighty years apart!) They are two of my favorite writers of short-stories!
Nice, thanks!
Great uplifting read. Really ascends your mood. King escalates the story to a heightened ,jacked up peak that really heightens your mood.....ok in struggling now. Great review, lovely boo....novel..novella. its a fucking novella!
This comment really lifted me up 😊
It sound like a cute little novella. I'll read it after i finish Carrie.
Cute is a good word for it - enjoy!
This one is tough because I can't get over that this was billed as a novel. Not only is it short, but it's just not that memorable. If it was included in If It Bleeds, for example, then I think I would look upon it more favourably (and if you read this and immediately thought "you fool - you can't have 5 stories in a Stephen King Novella collection", then If It Bleeds could have been the stand alone novel instead.. ). Anyway, maybe I was just in a bad mood when I read it...
I think a lot of that is fair - although Hearts in Atlantis does have five stories 😉
I’ve been wondering what King books are set in Castle Rock, and what the reading order would be for those books. Maybe you could do a guide to Castle Rock similar to your DT guide?
Already on my list of future specials!
Great idea 😊
The turkey trot is a 12K, not a 10K, per page 69 (nice) in the US version
You’re absolutely correct, my bad!
How did you find 19 reasons always heard it's one of Kings worst books. Maybe it's due to the rehash of Thinner and a novela size for a novel price
The novella/novel thing definitely is a pain, but I think there’s plenty to like in this one. It’s breezy, full of charm, and I enjoyed being back in the Rock
Don't know if I want to read this book because I hear many people not liking it 🤔😬
Meh, don’t worry about popular opinion! It’s a breezy read and a heartwarming tale - I thought it was pretty great
Elevation is a nice read but definitely not king's best but certainly not his worst 🤔
Yep, that's fair
Sounds like THINNER Part 2.
Kind of, but with far less racism and fat-phobic language!
Really loved the "wonkiness" of this story, a little like "The Jaunt" and "Mrs. Todd's Shortcut".
I'd never thought to compare it to those two before, but I kind of get what you mean!
