    Air2!!!!! I was about to return my whole friggin setup. Then you showed how to see absolute power. Soooo nice now. Why would anyone ever want to only see relative changes (Air1)?? I know it is needed for backwards compatibility, but I can't understand why in the first place they would've created that mode to begin with. Thanks for your clear and comprehensive explanations! Well done.

    Good review, thanks. I think the only thing you didn't mention was the 30m range for Bluetooth and presumable Air 2 mode, vs the 100m range for 2.4Ghz radio and Air 1 mode. Not often I need to control a light from over 30m (90 ft), but at least the option is there and the functionality is no less than the last generation of trigger. Thanks again for the thorough review and for including which model lights will function with Air 2, definitely on my shopping list now.

    i've been a profoto user for the last 10 years and love the products. I've ventured into a godox ad100 for fun for my aquarium photos, it's done a great job and their controller was out 3 years ago, which is the same or better than what profoto just came out with. With all that is said, i do have white balance issues with my ad100 godox at low powers, which is unfortuante, for a hobby setting it's priced perfectly. fixed with a gel, but annoying. I might venture off to a b10 later but 2k for a light for hobby is quite expensive, i know i know, you get what you pay for. The 10th power system is quite a change and annoying to use vs. 1/2, 1/4 stop. great video!

    hey, seth, I am an amateur but we tend to call these transmitters a trigger, as this is what it does, a 'remote' is a speedlight off camera, in 'remote' mode, fired via IR systems, also termed interchangeably with the word 'slave', NOT meaning any offence, just that it is commanded by the ttl of the camera system.

  • @andyvan5692
    @andyvan5692 Рік тому

    I just thought of another inovation, to label the lights, so if you have a softbox, umbrella, Para or reflector on each head, it simplifies changes, if you can label exactly what each channel does.

    Seth, great video, one question I have for you is: Do you know if they have updated the locking device, I have come across a few people that have had issues with the older Profoto trigger lock breaking and the pin remains engaged. They have had big problems trying to get the trigger off of their camera when this happens. I will definitely be upgrading to this newer model, but thought I would ask that question. Cheers mate, keep up the good work and amazing content you put out!

    • @LastXwitness
      @LastXwitness 2 роки тому +1

      So I havnt personally experienced any lock break. I will say it’s the newer lock that’s basically like the profoto A10 it’s updated from the air ttl remote if that helps? I run 8 speedlights and none of the locks have given me an issue (& if you watch my own channel you know I treat my gear pretty rough lol)

  • @jeffreytotaro7051

    2 quick things. I got one of these and it showed a firmware update available. We’ll that update bricked it. I have a new one and will wait on the update… I noticed that on my B10+ lights (current firmware), the power is adjustable from the connect pro as I would expect, however if I change the power from the head, it does not update that setting on the Connect Pro, so they are then out of sync. Seems like an easy fix, but that is the current state of its operation.
    Thanks!

    I just got the Connect Pro for my Canon R3 and the DIAL on the Connect Pro is extremely difficult to use. - The rubber they use on the dial is both slippery AND it has zero friction point. - Instead of being able to turn the dial with a single thumb like I am the A1 flash or the back of the B1 flashes I have to use 3... Yes you read THREE correctly fingers to get the dial to turn. - I think this is a product that needs some work. - Also disappointing to see that the B1 while functional with the transmitter still does NOT allow me to see the actual intensity of the light. - Essentially if you own the B1 series or any Profoto flash that DOES NOT have Bluetooth this trigger is a complete waste of money. - Disappointed. - Sending back to manufacture straight away. My advice is not to buy this device.

Has anyone else had this problem with the dial being to stiff and what solution did you come up with? I really like the idea of the remote.

It's one of the main reasons I want to upgrade from my Canon 600 EX RT flashes and remote (in addition to the lack of power). I will say as the owner of 4 Profoto Air Remotes they were never worth the amount I paid for them. Nothing worse when on a job not knowing your battery level. So on any important job that I know I would not have time to switch batteries I would have to install new batteries. I think Profoto will need to release a hardware dongle for older heads (D1, D2, B1) that provides the necessary Bluetooth support for 2-way communication with the Connect Pro. Hopefully, that's what Seth meant when he said Profoto was working on something for older heads.

      @@philipdstudio I'm hoping it's not an expensive hardware fix!? 😬.... Perhaps you could manually set both the new remote & all the lights to their lowest setting prior to using them for a shoot. Then it will know what setting it is at, by the number of steps from that given point - but just displaying the true values instead? Though I'm guessing as soon as the lights or the remote turned off, you'd be back to square one again... which would quickly become a pain in the arse!

      My guess is a new B1 battery module (of some sort) that connects to the USB port located on the area where the battery connects.

    Disappointing is that profoto is sooo expensive for 98% of the potential users 😢

      Seems like you don’t realize how big a change it is going from only controlling 3 groups ABC To now having all 6 ABCDEF. Or going from 8 channels to 100.. or firmware based to add actual features .. or now being able to see the power settings in the remote (for the newer lights) aside from just the change value of your adjustments . It’s a pretty massive change even the battery life is way better

    Profoto is a great light but since this system cost so much I wished they would look ahead......unless you have the new lights this is worthless....worthless....not paying 10,000 again for this new stuff!

    Trying to justify 100 channels made me laugh. I get it, 100 channels but to spend so long discussing this “feature” makes me think there isn’t much else going for it

    • @LastXwitness
      @LastXwitness 2 роки тому

      Sure laugh. Justify what? As if you’re paying a subscription fee for each channel? Aside from it virtually guaranteeing any user to find a clear channel to shoot uninterrupted… think about mass scale commercial use cases you probably don’t go anywhere near.. like E-Commerce where huge warehouses of say 40 shooting bays going on at once for product shots in the thousands going on at once where they can easily be on separate channels and just get the work done. And yes they need to do that so they own the image and can use it rather than run into usage rights issues . We have mass scale of this use case more than you’d think. I felt it was a great aspect of this remote to share so maybe I spent and extra minute on it . They could give the user 100 channels so they gave us 100 channels 🤷‍♂️

      @@LastXwitness that’s my point. If that’s the greatest feature of it then there is your issue. Also, before you start talking about channels you should consider how much bandwidth there is per channel and how much tolerance is between them. If it’s just the same amount of bandwidth shared split over 100 rather than 20ish then you don’t really gain that much...

      @@Lucy-dk5cz .. no that’s your issue… no one is saying this is the greatest feature of this remote … it’s great we have more channels and I decided to chat about it for a moment. You have a great day now 👋
