Maybe one of the most underrated cool country songs of all times. I am certain that Trent is one of the most underrated country singers of all times. One in a million my brother.
I have this on a CD called Hempilation2, A Benefit for NORML, released in 1998 by High Times, which has this song and it is credited to Hank Flamingo. The liner notes say the lead singer is Trent Summars and it quotes him as saying "My friend Odie Blackman was at Hooters and this guy comes in and said, "Gosh, I'm higher than a hippie on a helicopter ride." I said, "Good god, we've got to finish that.' The song practically wrote itself."
I first heard this in college about 8 years ago. It was found on a disk that a buddy of mine jacked from some dudes out in west Texas haha. We never knew who it was at the time but it became a huge hit in my town. Now it's sort of an anthem and I doubt Hank Flamingo will ever get the credit he deserves for it. One of my top ten most memorable songs ever. Thanks Hank!
jimmyjonjames68 Hank Flamingo isn't a person it was a band that was fronted by Trent Summars. The right person is getting recognition it's just confusing on which band he was with when this was released
You can find this on Trent Summar and the New Row Mob's Live at 12th & Porter cd, along with a lot of other great stuff. Pretty sure this was written by Trent and Odie Blackmon.
I could do an alternate upload I suppose, with the album cover. Trent Summar has been very kind in not coming in an giving me a copyright strike for this; 3 of those and they close your account. Dave Pomeroy, Nashville bass guitar legend and one-time president of the local musician's union in Nashville, wrote me and politely asked me to remove one of his that I uploaded, so i did, immediately. That was really nice. Somebody else, like Keith Emerson, may he rest in peace, had my account closed, and the bass player of Enter the Haggis, even though he wrote me and I removed his song right away, still submitted it for a copyright strike. In all fairness, I think that was an error and it IS his song after all; he had every right. He was really nice about it too. But still, it sucks to lose your account and so all your uploads.
The silly picture - I have a German friend who really likes this song, and he was really hung up on the line "higher than a hippie on a helicopter ride." He just thought that was absolutely hilarious, so the pic is for him. But IMHO a picture of the outside of 12th and Porter on the Corner in Nashville would be so much better, more righteous, for lack of a better word, and the album cover would be best. cps-static.rovicorp.com/3/JPG_500/MI0000/381/MI0000381218.jpg
I got this when it came out because they were playin it over the PA at Tower records. I knew it was so good because most people shopping there hated it. ya know, lip pierced emos with purple hair.
At one time I thought it was by Hank Flamingo, a band that Trent Summar fronted, so i wasn't completely wrong, but I've been corrected by those who know. LOL. I live 90 miles from Nashville, but I'm old and i don't get up there much anymore. I think I'll hit my pipe now. lol
Reminds me of listening to these songs smashed outta my face in bushbury, Wolverhampton
Woooo crank it🎉

It still took me a while in modern times to find out who the artist is.
