Great job Matt. I love the partial blurs you achieved. It’s always good to take a different approach to what you’ve seen before, and getting closer for a fresh perspective was genius. You nailed it.
Thank you George! That really means a lot! I always try to do something different, but as i am sure you have experienced, it doesn't always work :D. Keep up the cool shots on instagram by the way! :)
Thanks for sharing Matt. You have a very Woody Allen manner of talking out your concerns. Keep them coming. Fantastic job. Sorry I missed you on your tour Downunder
Matt, I’ve watched several of your videos over the past 24 hours & have been quite impressed. But you have in UK so many people about. I now realise that in Aus we have much more space, & areas were humans don’t get so easily! Thanks for share your videos.
Hhahahaha yeah, finding places without people is incredibly hard. I found that the best thing about Australia, although there were still similar challenges with wildlife photography, the wildlife was nowhere near as timid. Thank you for the kind words as well. I will try not to dissapoint with future videos :).
Sat on Holy Island (Lindisfarne) for about an hour, as starlings surrounded us in their thousands - A truly memorable natural experience! Took photos, but really should have filmed it, like you.
I’m the one who noticed the same mistake being made 3 times, do I win a prize? There's a tad bit of difference between nesting and roosting. Our closest 'real' RSPB is Leighton Moss where the murmurations that were on Autumn Watch about 4 years ago take place. As a rule they murmurate over water, all the bird droppings make it look like it’s raining. It’s always the the noise of the wings that I find the most mind blowing. You’re right everyone should experience it at least once. Now you want to go to Snettisham for the knot murmurations, they are several times bigger but because they are out at sea you see the entire show. A brilliant video, I'm glad you got to see it in the end.
Ha, did i say nested? Good spot! Thats why i try to do the talking with my photos, i have been told my spelling and gramma needs work too :D. Yeah i have heard of the Knot dsiplays, may have to add that to the list! Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Matt Gould There’s nothing wrong with self improvement but don’t let the spelling and grammar police get to you. Let your camerawork speak for you, you are an excellent wildlife photographer and that’s what your channel is about. I realise you know the difference between nesting and roosting, I just found it funny you said it, your friend/cameraman said it and then you said it again.
Matt Gould Have you ever seen Graham Barker's channel? I think you'd get a lot out of it, he's a wildlife videographer out of East Midlands. He is exceptionally good though he has a different style than yours. You might enjoy his channel, it’s just a thought.
I laughed out loud at your Automated Remote Camera Holder. But you got great photos and videos of the birds there! The birds were so dense on trees that they look like leaves. You were lucky to see that, but it also took hard work and planning. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thank you Pamela ! Really glad you enjoyed it :). I am sure you could find something similar near you if you want to experience it for yourself :) Thank you for your comment :)
Hi Matt, welcome to Bristol (we're based here too!). I had a great experience with the murmurations at Ham Wall last year but haven't been back again yet this year, this has inspired me to get back down there! Loved the footage of the Marsh Harrier. Really looking forward to seeing more of your videos from round here, its a great place to be! Sam.
Hi Sam, thanks for the comment, just subscribed to your channel i will be checking out your videos when i get a chance to have breather :D. Yeah Bristol is awesome, though i have only been here a couple of months so i am still learning all the areas to go.
@@MattGouldphotography Thanks for subscribing Matt! We're trying to get a bit more wildlife photography into our own channel but it's such a challenge (landscapes are so much easier!). We've been searching the local areas oursleves trying to find good locations but not having a huge amount of success to be honest! Hannah has decided to focus on urban foxes for a while. We know it's been done before but it seems like a great place to start given the large number that live near us! S.
Great filming, incredible images of the flock of starlings, had to be a great experience. thank you for sharing ... I had to watch it twice I like it!... I subscribe to your channel!
Thank you Espen! I too have tried and failed in previous years. I am not sure where you are based but the general feeling across the U.K seems to be that numbers are really good this year. Though there are bound to be exceptions. Hope you find one soon!
Seen the starling murmuration at Prestwick golf course in Scotland in December was outstanding I guesstimated 15,000 to 20,000 amazing sight to watch and photograph
@@MattGouldphotography hi Matt... I would think most of us watching would enjoy seeing a bird name on screen. I wouldn't do it too small though as us oldies have bad eyes... and the youngsters watch on mobile phone screens.... so either way bigger is better.. I reckon.... see how it goes. I certainly would benefit. Hope you had a good weekend. All the best... Steve.
Subscribed really enjoying the videos but can I ask a question. Aside from the head what tripod are you using? Mine is a cheaper Manfrotto I have had for years which is fine for stills but whenever I shoot any video with my 400 f5.6 which is the longest lens that I have, any video is full of vibration if I touch the camera. In fact I have more luck hand holding a Panasonic FZ2000
Yeah i am not having the best of luck with my stability either, i tend to shoot slow motion and use an editing software to steady it. You can get specific video tripods that are very steady though.
@@MattGouldphotography ah I thought you might have a solution - I'm guessing that there is the perfect tripod out there, it's just identifying it is the problem
Hi Paul, thank you for your comment! Yeah they were. If you watch the last few seconds of the video that is the noise they were making that Archie recorded on the second night :).
You mind coming over here to North America and taking your starlings back? Over here they're just noisy poop machines that can't sing, drive away native species, and don't even murmurate. Thanks in advance. You can take your house sparrows back, too.

Technically two on this one :D. The slow motion stuff of me was filmed by my mate Ben (@thatbharris). I feature his channel and he has a cool instagram, well worth checking out :). I am not great with my harrier knowledge as we diddn't get them at all back where i am from. But i think they are here all year, though don't quote me on that :D
Amazing dramatic shots Matt. Brilliant
Thank you as always Elaine! Glad you like them 😊

I definitely need to get that experience. There can't be many natural wonders that compare. Great video. Looking forward to the next
Highly recomend it Andy! It may be more within your reach than you'd think as well. There are a few locations around the U.K, its worth looking into!
Fantastic!

Just brilliant Matt. What an amazing thing to see. Love the ARCH too lol

Great vlog once again, loved the close-up footage of being in the flock and the Marsh Harrier.
Thank you Kevin! Glad you like the footage, that is for sure an area i am working hard to improve!
Absolutely stunning shots well done!

my fave reserve and coincidentally the same hide that I use on a regular basis but not for the starlings, got pics of a Glossy Ibis there :)
