Excellent analysis and video footage. For the past 20 years, we have been boating to Egmont Key. The erosion from storms has played a significant role for sure. The most recent redistribution of sand as a result of dredging the shipping channel has helped more than expected. The Port of Manatee/Tampa must ensure that a certain depth (60 feet?) for the container ships and cruise ships to safely navigate and make-way to the Port of Tampa. Finally, Egmont Key benefited from the dredging and received the sand. Typically, dredging the channel happens every 2-3 years. A few more projects and Egmont Key will have even more beach.

Thanks for checking out our channel and thanks for the nice comments. It is very cool that you have been boating to Egmont Key. We just moved to Tampa about two years ago and we purchased our first boat about one year ago. We love going to Egmont Key and Shell Key for shelling and snorkeling. I hope they continue to add to the island to keep from disappearing. Safe boating and if you see a Blue and White Crownline E285XS around the island, there’s a good chance it’s my wife and me.

Ours too. We love going there and snorkeling by the ruins and then looking for sea shells in the shallow water on the back side.
