      +Regina Provenzano Your welcome Regina. Yes everything we do it is about ourselves so why not just love. Its painless and free. Every time I share or give out encouragement it all had to start within myself first. Its such a fun path and many are joining and catching on. I love you and everyone. Some may say how can you love someone you don't even know. And I say but how can I not love everyone when Im loving myself. hugs

      The floral foam if Im understanding the same thing as you won't take the heat from your oven. Many artist will use aluminum foil with a masking tape wrapped around it. Hope this has helped and thank you for your interest.

    Thank you so much your instructions are really clear and I love the character you put into your work :) I am just 'rediscovering' my inner artist after an operation that limited my options. I have another op this year and I've been 'stashing' things to do and make whilst I recover... polymer clay is the major thing I want to try and your videos have really inspired the direction I want to go with it. Carmen thank you for leaving a very heart warming comment. It truly touches me that some where on your path that you felt inspired with my video's. This is why Im making these tutorials to share a way of art that I love and to inspire who ever is looking. But although its all within ourselves but sometimes we just need a raise of vibration and then were on our way. When ever I had things in my life that kept me from my art I always told myself its just a time to go back to school and do research and learn what comes my way. So, really I was never away from my art. Welcome and please join in and if you have any questions always ask and I will do by best. huge hugs

I use to struggle a lot with sculpting a whole head. When I started making just a half I found I could work with the clay so much easier instead of fighting with it. Thank you for subscribing and always expand and have so much fun. We are all artist if we have a deep desire.

    Thank you so very much. You are a very generous soul to share you experience and at the end of the tutorial - we get a glimpse into your heart. Again - thank you. BTW - I especially loved how to make the eyeballs. Glass eyes are so expensive - well for me - unaffordable. Now, I have something to share with you. Here in Hawaii - the supply store I go to does not sell the UV Gel because we have so much UV sunlight. What she suggested to me is PEBEO Cerne Relief (transparent) which is made for stained glass (baking) and it becomes rock hard like glass - lasts for literally years and years without getting cloudy. That is my share. Again, thank you (mahalo). :)

    thank you so much h for sharing your gift with us. Ive experienced hard times with sculpting because one thing looks beautiful and I've gt it just perfect but then the other side gets squished or other frustrating scenarios take place and you seem to understand that it's going to happen and with your narration warn your viewers ahead of time and fully express why each step is in place to avoid disaster. I you realy are amazing at th our craft and a talented tutor. thanks again I have a million questions for you but will see if you answer them I your videos without being so presumptuous as to start asking so prematurely

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  7 років тому +1

      Thank you Joe for such kind words. Many people and including myself encounter the problem of clay being to soft and then when we touch it our hands just add more heat. Impossible to sculpt and nothing but frustration and many people quit. Starting off with half of the head you still have to remember to put in a few parts because your sculpting on a flat surface. But getting the feel of the clay without so much frustration is the key to get the experience of how the clay works and moves. Once you get the experience of the clay you might just move on to a whole head but I would suggest a very hard core for the armature. Have questions? Please feel free to ask as many as you have thats a great sign you have a desire. Fire away and I will do my very best to help out...

Yes I do wish I could always have my windows open or sit right outside with my clay but I don't think the polymer clay is compatible with dirt and temperature LOL. So when I can have my windows open and of course the pets are always with me so they make there little noises to let me know there with me. Yes I do offer class's but Im booked until next year. Karina Nissen The apoxie gives you a hard core. This keeps your eyes from shifting when sculpting. Not everyone does it the way I have shown. You might just try it without the apoxie and see how it goes for you. Experiment and just have fun. The apoxie you do have plenty of time its not like a glue. No oder and easy to work with. Hope you give sculpting a try I believe everyone can sculpt. Any questions always feel free to ask..

    This was a joy to watch and very informative, so thank you for taking the time to make this video. I am an artist who paints with oils on canvas but I have recently started to sculpt with clay. I find it makes my paintings improve as well, because I have more understanding of forms when I create them in 3d. Your tutorials are so easy to follow. Thank you, I too am guilty of being too hard on myself. I am never satisfied with my finished work. In fact I have gotten into the awful habit of stopping when things are almost finished as until they are finished they still have potential to be great lol. Not sure how to get out of this habit but hopefully I will find a way. :-)

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  8 років тому +1

      Oh thank you Diane for sharing. Drawing with painting and sculpting are great tools to learn one or the other. When learning how we go through so many other things besides the art itself LOL.. It sure will become therapy if we allow it. I can so relate being hard on oneself and not finishing a project and your so right it can slip right into a habit. Trust me your on the way to expand from the habit. A habit is a lie, how do I know? Because life is all about growing just like art or any kind of creative project. Keep this in mind when creating, its ok to not like something as your making it because whats really going on is expansion. Just allow it and keep going with the project. You will truly see that when your not liking something your moving into improving. Really embrace those feelings when your creating and just know that its all about learning. Many times I have gone through so many stages to sculpting that when I was finished or I even felt to completely start over it was such a learning tool. As I moved on if I completely started over I knew everything I didn't want and my new project flowed so easy. If I stayed with it I found this out so many times. When I felt my project was trash LOL I stepped out of that habit and remembered it was a lie. As I embraced and allowed the art to flow I have been so amazed at the results. If I would of stopped where I felt that feeling of not liking I would not of allowed the expansion of to flow. May this help you as it did for me and know this your good from inside to outside. hugs

      Thank you so much and I know that you are right, it is just so hard when you are going through that learning curve isn't it. Big hugs right back at you. I can see improvement in my paintings. So much so that sometimes when I stop for the day and then come back on the next day, it feels like someone else has improved it overnight ;-)

      All my students that I have shown to do half of a head have had such great results in so many area's of sculpting. It gives them the feel of freedom and not to be afraid of to much confusing information. Make it simple and get to know the clay. That right there is so important... The rest comes through practice and one other thing I always say to my students. Get rid of the word perfect because there is no such thing. To believe in perfect you will only find its never right or good enough. Instead of perfect we use words like awesome, beautiful. Anyone that has a desire has the ability to be what the desire is. Thank you for your support and commenting. Hugs

    ***** Zelda answer to your question you don't have to wait until it is totally dry. I work on it when its at a stage where its firm enough. Meaning I would be able to lay clay over it and the clay isn't going into the apoxie. You also can speed up the drying by putting it in your oven. I have done this many of times and I just use the temp that Im using for my clay which mine would be 275. You will know once you start working with it and see how it starts to harden. Hope this has helped.

    I love your doll's face. I ve got just one question: if you are right handed, wouldn't be easier to work the left eye first, so you'd have a better view to do the right one?

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  9 років тому +1

      eumaroca I think you have a very good point there. And someone that is sculpting may try out your question. I am both ambidexterity so it feels the same to me on either side of my brain with my hand. But here was what I was really trying to say in the video is that by doing a sculpt with a solid clay (instead of 1/2) when I hold my clay head in my hand thats when the right side of my head will shift towards the back of the head. This would be due to the heat from my hand. So the whole purpose of doing the half of a head was based really on the holding and heat of my hands. But lets get back to your question and I do really think anyone that is sculpting should try starting out on there least dominate side. In art school that was an exercise the class would have to do. Excellent exercise because you are less in control and it flows easy. But many found it to be a little frustrating because of feeling out of control. For me since Im both I don't feel any of that. Great question and thank you for bring it up here for someone else to read.

    I'm a beginner at sculpting and your videos have been super helpful! I followed your instructions in part 1 step by step and had a decent looking face, but when I tried to attach the two halves to the armature, the whole structure started falling apart. I couldnt get it to blend without squishing the face too much :(. I don't use epoxy because I sculpted the eyes into the face, but I decided to try bake and bond to hold the 2 halves to the wire. By the time I could get the thing on there, I had messed my face up so much, I couldn't save it. Maybe it's just sculpey III being beginner's clay, but it seems like everything is just squishing too easy for me. Any tips for putting it together without ruining it?

      Hello Shel and you have a question that many beginners ask. It's important to find a good quality clay because you want a clay that is going to be able to work with you. Everyone is different and some clays work for some and not for others. Try a different brand like Femo, Kato, Cernit. You can also stage bake it. Cook the front of the face then add the rest of the clay to the head. I like using something to reinforce in between the cook and raw clay. I wouldn't suggest ever using like femo liquid or sculpey. I don't feel they are meant to use for strength. Bake a bond I know people use. I really can't say because I use the apoxie sculpt. Also leaching out the oils in your clay can help out tremendously. But remember you want a clay that can take as many different times cooking. Some brands will change in color and makes it hard to build over the cooked. If you still have some clay left over try leaching out the oils and practice. Play with it because what your having to do is get the feel of the clay and how you want it to work for you. If it doesn't go to the next brand, but stay away from the cheaper clays.

    This is amazing! Thanks for sharing but may I ask, I don't think that I will find any of those tools in my country.. Any idea what to use instead? I've never made a doll before and I really want to try :)

      vampire12girl Thank you. Well lets see you could make some tools right from the polymer clay. You will want to make it real smooth. I have made a few for myself and works great. To make an eye lid you can use a straw. Look all around your house you will be amazed at what you can find. Hope this helps.

      ***** Oh, you can be so creative with making your own tools. When I first started out I couldn't afford all the nice tools and then when I start to work on a face it kinda lead me in the thinking, oh a tool with a small pointed end is what I could use. I took some wood that I found and made a skinny end to it. Then sanded it down until it was slick. Take polymer clay cheap stuff and create handles and ends if needed use crazy glue to secure the ends to your handles. Design them all in a way that you would see it would work. After I could afford some tools I bought the rubber end tips tools the set called Shapers. The only thing I would tell anyone is be very careful if buy plastic sculpting tools for this reason. I found they had a seam and that is no good to use to sculpt a doll. Does that help with your creative imagination. I hope have fun and really the best tools have been the ones I come up with.. Have lots of fun

    When you root hair do you do it into the clay that has not been fired yet and will the oven hurt the hair?

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  9 років тому +1

      Carrie Lonsdale You can root hair in raw clay but I find it to be hard and you it takes a lot of patients. I find root hair works better for me when the clay has been cooked I just make the slices where the main parts will be. Yes the hair will go in the oven fine as long as you always dont go over the temp the clay calls for.

    Thank you so much, I really wanted to see hoy a face is sculpted but when I made some research I realized most of good tutorials have a cost :( Which brand of polymer clay are you using?

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  10 років тому +2

      KatyShaga I use a lot of cernit and kato. Bozzi is another but dont use it as much. Its cost is high and I feel its a lot like cernit.. These 3 clays are firm all the others are way to soft for me but what is soft for me maybe firm for someone else. If anything use a good quality clay it will truly be to your benefit. Yes there are many tutorials out there to purchase and they are good artist. But I know many cannot always learn something when there is a high cost. I have been thinking on how I could expand these tutorials for everyone so there is a place where many can interact with there working piece of art. Hands on and guidance just another step other then here with the tutorials. I have been thinking of fb. Any thoughts anyone?

      Thank you so much for your time on answering my comment. Yes, it would be good if you had a Facebook fanpage. See, I'm mexican, and the only brands I have seen (and very difficult to find) are Sculpey and Fimo. I've worked with Super Sculpey and I can see that the consistency the clay you use looks different, that's why I'm asking. Good luck and please keep working on your tutorials :)

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  10 років тому +2

      KatyShaga If you only have two brands I would go with fimo. Just in my opinion I feel its a better quality of clay. But I still would say they are very soft clays for me. One other thing if the clay is to soft leach your clay. That will help out a lot with being to soft. And yes tutorials will keep coming. Any question please ask and I will truly help you as much as I can. I answer everyone here... And I will always show in my tutorials the whole process...

    how would you suggest going about sculpting hair?

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  8 років тому +1

      If your wanting to sculpt hair I would suggest cooking your dolls head and then applying the color of clay you want to use for hair. This way you won't get the colored clay anywhere on the face. Then before applying the hair I would ruff up the scalp this will help your polymer clay to adhere to the cooked. Some people might suggest applying some liquid sculpy. I personally wouldn't ever use it to adhere anything because I just don't feel its strong. Bake and bond would be so much better in my opinion. I find for myself by ruffing the scalp works fine. Hope this helps.

    Why do you have the top of the wire sticking out of the top of her head?

    • @fairysnmypond
      @fairysnmypond  9 років тому

      +JUDYJAY2020 You then have an option to hang your doll while you sculpt. I have a stand, but you can have a stand and it connect through the back of the doll around the waist. When the doll is finished you then clip the wire.
