    4:16 For anyone who at least knows the knocking rule, please note that the player who undercuts the knocker never goes gin, even though the undercutter gets rid of all his deadwood. Only the knocker goes gin. In this example, Player 1 laid off his 2 of hearts to Player 2's meld of 2s. Player 1 undercut Player 2 but didn't go gin.

      Can you explain WHEN do you lay down your sets or runs. As you get them? Do you have too?? Can you hold till you knock or go Gin? If I hold them till i knock , I assume I must lay them all down so the opponent could lay against me and try to undercut me?

    • @jeffreyjacobs3471

      That is correct, and the bonus is only 10 for undercut, not 20 for gin.

  • @Johannes00
    @Johannes00 7 років тому +5

    Hoyle has different scoring rules.
    You play multiple rounds of 100 points, and the winner is the first to reach 500 points.
    Every hand you win is worth 25 points, which is awarded at the end of every round.
    Example: If player A wins 2 times and player B wins 5 times, then they would get 50 and 225 respectively.
    The knocker gets twice the amount of points if the opponent had no matching cards.
    After updating the score, you start a new round of 100 points.
    Repeat this process until someone reaches 500 points.
    Also, Gin and Undercut are worth the same (25 points).

    • @karenfromfinasse8430
      @karenfromfinasse8430 4 роки тому +7

      Maybe you can tell me what version of rummy this is my gma taught us: each player gets 7 cards except 1 who gets 8. This player discards one of his 8 cards and effectively starts the discard pile. Each consecutive player will have the option to pick up the top card from the discard pile or choose from the face down draw deck. The only way a player can put any cards down is if they can "melt" 50 points of sets or runs. Points of each card are : 5 pts for any numbered card, 10 points for any J, K or Q and 15 pts for A, but only if it's used in a set of 3 As or as KQA but if it's used in a A12 run it's only worth 5 pts. Each player may only have 8 cards max in their hand at any one time, unless they are able to pick up from a certain point in the discard pile and melt. So, instead of only having the top card showing in the discard pile, you'd stack them allowing each card in the discard pile to be visible. After a player has melted, they are free to add to their own runs or sets whenever they choose, or can add to a run or set of another player's. The hand ends when one player plays all of their cards. The points of the cards left in the hands of the other players are deducted from the points they earned. If a player hasn't been able to melt at all it would result in a negative score. We would play til 500 points which would be 4 to 5 rounds on average. If a player were able to get a true run before melting (ie. 1-7 in the same suit) they would call "Rummy", automatically winning the round and also earning 500 pts, effectively winning the game. Players could also call Rummy if an opponent discarded a card that could be included in an existing set or run on the table and steal the card for themselves even if it was not their turn to draw. Wow, after typing this out it sounds way more complicated than I remember, but once you get into it it all works out.

    So just to clarify, at 4:17 player (2) knocks, then all cards are turned face up. Player (2) has an ace unmatched for one point, but player (1) can lay off his unmatched deuce on to player (2)s set of deuces, leaving player (1) with no unmatched cards, however, that does not mean that player(1) has got Gin, for an additional twenty bonus points + the one for player (2)'s unmatched ace. Player (1) simply gets one point for Player (2)s unmatched ace, + 10 bonus points for the undercut, is that correct?

      and how does 32 and 32 and 32 and 32 and 60 and 75 and 75 equal to a 100

    • @GatherTogetherGames

      It's a running total for the score. The player scored 32, but then didn't score again for a few rounds. Then, scored 28 in a round to get to 60.

    A question!
    When do you show your hand ?
    And how well the other player ever get points other than 0 in each round, in other words, there must always be a player who gets 0 points in each round, right ?

    • @GatherTogetherGames

      +Mr. N Yes, one of the players will always get 0 each round. The hands are shown when a card is placed face down on the discard pile.

    I keep it simple: 10-card Oklahoma with Hollywood Scoring, 20(+6)/10, spades double hand, Schneider doubles all, 1st two of 3 games unless it's open game count, settle debt at no more than every five games.

    Can a player make 3 runs or 3 sets to win

    • @reillywalker195
      @reillywalker195 5 років тому

      Yes. With that, you're guaranteed to have 10 or fewer deadwood, so you're sure to win unless your opponent can match or beat your deadwood total. If one of your melds has four cards and you have three melds, that's a gin.

    This supersedes the comment I just made. Your explanation was difficult to follow because 1) You explained it far too quickly and 2) You played both hands from Player 1's seat, so sometimes it was not clear whose hand you were playing.
    A slower version, playing each hand from the correct seat would be excellent.

    What is the difference between rummy vs gin rummy?? Im lost.

    • @reillywalker195
      @reillywalker195 3 роки тому +1

      In regular Rummy, you can't knock on your opponent nor lay off after your opponent goes out, but you're allowed to play melds to the table and to lay off on tabled melds during the round to reduce the number of points in your hand. Regular Rummy also can accommodate more than two players if each starts with seven cards instead of ten. Another difference is that the bonus in regular Rummy is given for going out in a single turn, the bonus being double points.
