legit my comment relates to yours so much it hurts hahaha, owning a dalmatian will make u not want to hear the title ever again hahaha. I compared it to being swarmed by paparazzi when youre out on walks. People are amazed when they see them LOL
I saw 2 one time about 20 years ago no joke...haha I was a kid and one of them jumped on my and scratched me bad I was like no way I'm getting one of those when I grow up!
My Dalmatian #5 was deaf. She was so smart that I had her home for 2 weeks before I realised she had a problem. (Fireworks on New Years Eve and my other 2 dallies were going crazy and she ignored the whole thing.) Truly, the extra work was worth it. She was a truly loved and treasured member of our family.
I have 2, 1 is deaf and the deaf one is so smart and loyal. Its crazy, i have to tell people he is deaf and they cant believe it because he lostens better than dogs that can hear, including my dal with good hearing.

I had a female Dalmatian back in the early 90's and she was a great family dog. I named her patches, because she had a black patch over her right eye. She followed me everywhere I went and never left my side. She was a good dog and I miss Patches a lot!
We had a Dalmatian that helped raise our children. She was friend, protector, emotional support and just generally a fantastic dog. We lost her at 14 years old. Still deeply miss that dog!
We have one sleeping over because her boss had to go for surgery and I found out that Dalmatians are extremely affectionate, I have never seen a dog miss her boss this bad. Kinda sad, but they'll be reunited soon enough.
Yes, in fact they are like velcro! If I don't send ours away, to their bed, they sit up next to me, leaning on my legs, pushing me slightly off the couch. They'd be the perfect old granny's companion if it wasn't for their sheer size as they want to sit on your lap all the time :)
I've owned a bernese mountaindog, german sheppard, labrador, husky, rottweiler, golden retriever and a dalmatian. I loved them all, but my dalmatian was the one I had the most fun with. Like doctor lindsay said, they are full of energy so if you are the type of people who spends weekends outside doing exercise, this dog is for you! And they are also very affectionate and protective. Dalmatians are simply the best ❤️
I have a dalmatian and I think she's smarter than most people I meet. She is, however, a bit on the stubborn side. If you tell her to do something and she doesn't want to, she won't do it. She's a beautiful, loyal and loving dog.
I had three at once. They were fantastic. I would take them on all day hikes and they loved it. Pepper was partially deaf but she learned hand signals. Smartest dog I have ever seen. I miss her.
my neighbor has around 5 dalmatians and everytime i walk home, only the baby dalmatians bark like crazy haha. but they are so well trained because when the gate is open, they don’t leave at all. they are so cute.
They usually don't bark at all... My wife said only when I was out of the house (no front yard at all), Guy, our third Dally barked to warn of people walking nearby, like in 'protection mode', but only when she was by herself! And my 4th and current, I had to train him to bark on command (handsignals), so later he'd let us know when the postman would come, 'cause he would often leave the front gate open afterwards.
We just adopted one. And shes already the STAR of our family. She is loving and very very patient with my 3 kiddos. And literally drags me in our walks/run I cant keep up with her and having to pull me would be an added exercise for her .
I was born and raised with Dalmatians. We've had them in our family since 1948, ten of them so far. My grandparents started the tradition. My favorite dogs.
WOW that is amazing. thank you for that comment! When I got mine people were very negative about it and told me they are aggressive and too high energy.. yes they can be these things.. but mine are so loving and not like this at all. So must be how people train them.
@@drlindsaybutzer Don't worry about what other people say of them, focus on yours and training them as you want them to act. Some people say that they are not good with kids, they adjust to them if you have them in the family. Our first Dalmatian was jealous of my older brother when he was born (she liked being the 'only child'), but once he was eating solid food and throwing it to her from his high chair, decided that hanging around with kids wouldn't be so bad, (another source of food). Just make sure to give the Dalmatian some attention so it doesn't feel pushed to the side. They are very loyal and will put themselves in danger to protect their family. You give them lots of love, and they will give you lots of love right back. Burn off their extra energy by playing with them. Play wrestle, throw a ball, run with them in the yard, do what your dog likes to do. Have fun with them as they love to exercise and play hard. Dalmatians are very intelligent and will try to trick you. They learn your habits and try to take advantage of them, mostly to con you into giving them more food. They can be stubborn sometimes, you have to be more stubborn than them to keep them in line. You set the limits and they will follow them. However, being so smart, they can learn anything that you want to train them to do. They are fun and entertaining. They can be real clowns and make you laugh. Here's a short video of when I trained/taught my Dalmatian to eat corn off the cob and leave the cob: ua-cam.com/video/KKgJT3aFLM0/v-deo.html
my male is mellow.. but he likes to run away on adventures on our farm and is not the best about listening to come back... I rescued him also so maybe he has selective hearing when he's on the run!
They are the greatest.....unlike any other dog....and super strong too! Mine was the best dog you could ever want. He was so very similar to yours in manner, like the yawn at 2.30 and very similar to Daisy.
We had a deaf Dalmatian growing up. She was Great! She was scared of things that made the ground shake like storms and fire works. Great personality too!
Love this video, I have a dalmatian and she is everything you described. She's amazing loving dog with loads of energy. She's loves running and playing with other dogs. Before getting a dog people have to aware how much time you need to spend. My dalmatian has at least 1 hour walk in the the morning and evening, best is of the lead so she can run freely.
Another good thing to help prevent stones, a reverse osmosis water filtration system to weed out the minerals. A prescription diet is also very important, as she has said. My Dal has had bladder surgery, so we have been extremely careful. Fun fact- human and Dalmatians urinary systems are so alike, that urologists study only Dalmatians as far as canines.
Dr Lindsay, I'm so glad to see videos like this. People truly need to know about essential needs such as extreme exercise. Too many end up in animal control or Dal rescues. Great video.
I grew up with Dalmatians. Amazing breed. Some people said they were super hard to train. That wasn’t my experience - they just need consistency and a strong Alpha. If they sense they can walk all over you, they will. They can also be stubborn and they get bored easily, so you need to mix up your training methods.
I do 10-15k runs with my Dalmatian every 3 days as part of my regular runs. We go to state parks and run trails so I don’t have leash him. He’ll do 9min miles for 15k in trails like it’s nothing.
Where I live I can get away with no leash, which is very good for socialising. I just whistle to my Dalmation and she comes back to me if there's a car coming past or something
Thank you for bringing up the issue of stones. Not a lot of potential or new owners are aware of this issue so will plan on keeping them on a regular diet, then have problems and very expensive treatment to follow. For anyone interested, the specialized diet is more expensive but in the long run will save you money from vet bills and your dog a lot of unnecessary pain.
@Dr Lindsay, Its so great that you covered the dietary needs/livercare aspect of dalmatians. It so often gets overlooked during other dalmatian videos. And yes they are the most beautiful breed.
Our Dal Macey is a real character and love her to bits, she has what we call her "pirate patch" eye patch so can't be shown. But she loves a cuddle and trying to lick your ear! We got her to train as a carriage dog as my wife and I also breed Clydesdale horses.
I have a rescue 7-month Dalmatian mix, he literally goes out his doggie door into our yard at all times of day and night by himself and runs fast back and forth about 5 times the length of our yard like a greyhound in a race, and if you get in his way he'll knock you over, he goes so fast and hard. We are waiting to leash train him so he can go running with me. His original owners who dumped him never taught him to walk on a leash. Found him abandoned in the desert, he's so fast our wildlife camera caught him outrunning a wild coyote. He appears to be half deaf and displays the behavioral traits you describe. The other thing is he doesn't bark.
I have a Dalmatian X Dutch Shepherd. Thank goodness I love running because I didn't know what breed she was when I rescued her and she is INTENSE! As it is she's perfect :)
I have one! When I’m walking her people want to either pet or take a picture or both! Mostly the kids! I run with her they love to run play fetch very athletic !
I have had dalmatians growing up and you never mentioned how much they shed for being a short hair breed. It is consistent shedding with Dalmatians and consistent brushing you have to do with them. They are extremely smart dogs and like you said they need exercise. I am glad you mentioned about the urate stones. We never knew about it until later on.
We rescued our Emma, she is deaf but I have worked with her and she now knows hand signals and commands like any other dog. She is extremely smart and learned in no time at all and better behaved than many other dogs around. Her goal is to please and is definitely a “Velcro dog” but that’s not a bad thing, I always know exactly where she is! Shedding is something to be aware of but they are extremely clean and never have that “doggy” smell. She is also very protective but I believe she has been mistreated in her past, sorry that people don’t learn about animals instead of using sticks and spray water bottles, she will never need to worry about that life again. ,
SUGAR XYLER !!! Too each their own I have adopted and breed dogs before, when you want a certain breed it’s kinda hard to find it in a shelter as a puppy 🤷🏽♂️❤️
Dalmatian's are a great dog. We had two. Maggie and Minnie. They were so much fun. So full of energy, but we were young and able. Minnie was a big smiler. When we came home from work, she would smile and sneeze and wag her whole body. Good luck and enjoy your new fur baby!
Don't mind that negative comment. I have a Dalmatian (from a breeder) too! Unfortunately I got him at 16 weeks, because of laws here in Europe. So I totally missed his important learning curve and the breeders didn't teach him any basics. Nonetheless he is so sweet, funny, energetic and extremely smart. I'm spending quite some time on him to teach everything he missed but it's all worth it! Congratulations and have a great Christmas! You're going to loveeee it!
Last year I adopted two Dalmador sisters. They are a mix of Dalmatian and white Labrador. They have all of the best characteristics of both breeds. I just adore them.
My first Dalmatian Jessie was just after 16 when she went to heaven. Our darling girl now is 8 years old and she loves our 5 acres in Australia. Our girl never had the stones. She is really sensitive to lamb and pork so she can’t have it because she goes all red. We love her so much. We had a Border collie which was 17 and a half as well when he went to heaven
Why would a Dal be put on a "liver diet" if the urate stones are from the kidney? Dalmatians can have Copper Storage Disease and would need a low copper diet. Question Dr. Lindsay: Why would a Dal not producing crystals or stones need a urinary diet when a low purine diet would do? Not all Dalmatians are stone formers, but they are fed a low purine diet in order to prevent stones. You could make recommendations on those since so many foods now have peas, liver, yeast, certain fish, etc. We cover their food in water and I recommend feeding at least twice a day. Sometimes a watery meal helps as well, especially during less hot months or for less active dogs, getting them to drink say a half cup extra using mashed scrabbled eggs, yogurt mixed in, or one spoonful of a cream of chicken soup. You see stones in the urine when you walk a dog? You can't see little stones or sediment when a dog urinates on a walk. It needs to be screened. Urate stones show up on ultrasound as well. I recommend going to the Dalmatian Club of America for resources and also the Facebook page, " Dalmatian Urinary Obstruction Resource," and look under "Files." Watch for post by Carroll Weiss, expert. I also recommend Dalmatian Copper Storage Disease Interest Group if there is concern regarding this. Daisy is too fat. The sire and dam of the litter should be BAER tested and posted on OFA along with their hips, and thyroid or eyes, among other tests. I would request proof of a CHIC on the breeding pair if born in the USA. Just get the full registered name of the parents and type this in on the OFA . org website where it says " Look Up OFA Health Tested Dogs." The Dalmatian Club of America is still looking for gene markers on the Copper Storage Disease and Early Renal Onset Disease. Deaf Dalmatians do not necessary have any more behavioral problems than any other dogs. They do not get scared. Scared of what? Just have a touch signal to awaken any deaf dog. Any person sleeping might jump if shaken awake suddenly. They are not hard to train if communication is there. In fact, it is an advantage to have a deaf dog in agility because they are less distracted. The top agility dog in Canada years ago was a Dalmatian named Holly. How about referring anyone with any deaf dog ( Dalmatians are by far not the only ones) to a group that assists like Deaf Dogs Rock or Deaf Dog Training. I recommend a vibration collar, smelly treats at the ready, and keep a few flashlights handy. I trained a deaf puppy 13 signals before she went to her owner. Energy is high to average, and they do need a job to do. They were bred to go with horses; therefore, they are an ENDURANCE dog, not a hyper energetic dog. However, having a yard and playmates help a lot. Throwing a toy or ball helps. Some people are not able to do walks or run but good yard time, dog day care, or another dog to play with can be adequate. My Labradors had the same energy as my Dals.. My Dals relax and are calm. If the Dal is "hyper" I would blame genetics as they are a endurance breed and not a crazy bouncing off the wall energizer bunny after having adequate exercise. I would suggest a different bloodline. I cannot recommend this video. I suggest talking to a DCA breeder, trainer, exhibitor, gathering more facts, having more resources, and offering referrals to expert information.
Gilda Turner THANK YOU for your correction and comment on deaf dogs. My dalmatian is deaf and because I am educated on Deaf culture (I am a teacher of students who are DeafBlind) I know that communicating with my dog is just different than with my hearing dog.
We have had 6 Dalmatians and I have one that is deaf. He is not scared or skittish. Most of the time you can’t even tell he is deaf. I don’t think I would start out with the breed with a deaf one but I would get on other deaf one because he is the sweetest. Dalmatians are also very expensive to own. With their special diet, we have 2 on meds to prevent stones and just had a very expensive bladder surgery on our 1 year old male. But with all of that I could never see myself not having Dalmatians in our home! They are the sweetest most intelligent dogs I know!
Awe yes we love our Dalmatian. But yeah they do have health and stone issues! but other than that they are great.. other breeds have so many issues so ill take theirs. :)
I just got my baby yesterday 💙 his name is Cupid cause he has a heart shaped spot over his nose. He was my valentines present. Have wanted one for over 20 years. ❤
Every dog needs to have training and needs to be ran at least 5 days a week(Especially big ones like German Shephards). It's really messed up that lazy people get dogs and they sit at home dying of heat all day >.> or outside in a cage. Don't get a dog if you don't have the time or patience just get a cat.
Yes!! I often hear smth like "if you don't have a yard you need to walk your dog regularly" but even if you have a yard you need to walk it!!! It's important for them to get to sniff around outside of their house and backyard every day
Yes, I rarely meet with well trained dogs these days. It almost seems like people get pets just for comfort & entertainment when they need it. But forget it’s a living creature that needs a lot of love & training.
We have had 3 Dalmatians over the the last 30 years our dog now is a Liver recessive Dalmatian, she is the best and most kind dog we have ever had she is 11 years old and doing great but she was diagnosed with Cushing's about 5 months ago but doing great on the meds and she never did present with any symptoms..
I was.... Somewhat catfished into getting a Dalmatian. He was about a year old when I first got him and.... It has been very hard. He constantly wants to play fight which is dangerous when the kids go outside. Actually it's hard to even go outside to throw out the trash without getting scratched or nibbled on. He jumps on everybody all the time and it's hard to not get your clothes dirty/damaged. He destroys EVERYTHING and has dug very deep holes, dug up lines/cables, and turned over trash/recycling bin. You need space, need to be VERY active and not care that all you things get destroyed. They are incredibly smart, beautiful dogs who are also quite protective of the home but... Yea... Just keep these things in mind.
Recentlly adopted a Dalmation. Wonderful girl. I was thinking she might have hearing issue. This video confirms the likelyhood of that. Thank you for the tip on the Urea Crystal formation, I will switch to appropriate diet, thank You. Great video, Jetti, lives up to her name, she is super fast, and can literally fly right over most any fence, smart enough to use latch on gates, can escape from any restraint, lol. You are correct, this wonderfully happy, loving girl is a handful, requires lots of space and attention, but worth every minute of it. She even likes to sing! Video of that coming soon. She wants to do a song about Fire, lol, figures.
I didn’t know anything before I got my dalmatian except that he was beautiful…. He is the biggest pain in the butt lol. I love him so much. He’s so quirky so clever so sweet natured. He has horrible separation anxiety, but we’re working on that. He’s the most amazing amazing dog and I would get another Dalmatian and a heartbeat of my husband would let me…. In fact, I would get a whole tribe. They are really really marvellous dogs.
I’m heavily considering getting a Dalmatians but live in an apartment. However, my apartment is directly next door to a fenced-in dog park that is rather large. Weighing my options here but boy do I want one! ❤️
We were "owned" by a Dal for 13 years and loved it. We miss her almost every day! Dals are wonderful -- but please pay attention to the information in this video.
I know that it depends on how you raise each dog, but, have Dalmacians been known to be agressive? Someone once told me that their Dalmacian was a bit agressive towards strangers.
Poorly bred Dalmatians can be prone to behavior problems like aggression. With Dalmatians it is very very important to buy from a very reputable breeder.
We have a Dalmation that just turned 1. She’s fantastic. I love the breed. I did research a lot prior to having her and I continue into them still. We actually make our food for our dogs. I’m lost why she would feed her Dalmation Science Diet, kibble food and Liver. Liver it and organ meats (also red meat) have high purine levels. Excess uric acid in the body from gout can cause uric acid kidney stones to develop.
Today is the 31st December 2023. I, a 16 year old that goes to sixth form in the uk is getting a 9 week old dalmatian on the 19th of January, my only concern is the diet and what i should feed him and things with food. I will be able to take him out on walks quite often because i am taking full responsibility of him, not my parents, me 😂.
We just lost our beautiful Dot last month after 16 years with us. Missing her terribly. Beautiful companions, loyal, goofy, clumsy, smart and affectionate. An angel that choose us to be part of her life, and took part of ours after she left.
I was aware of the Uric Acid Crystal problem before I got a Dalmatian, luckily there is a healthy breeding program trying to introduce the healthy Low Uric Acid gene into the pedigree population that do not suffer from these type of stones. Look into LUA Dalmatians as they are now bred around the world. My boy has qualified and attended Crufts twice now. There are many well bred pedigree Dalmatians now, some with Champion titles in various countries. LUA = low Uric acid, HUA = high Uric acid dalmatian
There are two different types of Dalmatians when it come to bladder stones, if you have them tested there is lua and hua. Up until the past decade all akc Dalmatians were hua but due to trying to better the breed the number is growing. Lua= low Uric acid hua= high uric acid. Low uric acid is what is considered as normal levels of uric acid and extremely low risk of stones . By from a good breeder that tests your dogs for uric acid and does a hearing test as Dalmatians are prone to deafness
I can’t wait to get one of these amazing things eventually in the future. Had one growing up and she was amazing and she was a liver spotted one. Absolutely beautiful dog and hopefully when I get mine I can a liver spot one as well. But I like all types of Dalmatians.
I just love Dalmatians. Except for being super beautiful, they are also very smart. Mine is like a curious kid that always follows me around, loves to sleep next to me so tight that almost pushes me from the bed. So sensitive and gentle and goofy. But yeah, they need a lot of exercise, otherwise they may become destructive and a little bit depressed. They pick their favourite human(s), and are their best and loyal friend. Please if you take Dalmatian, make sure you give them attention, walks, and lots of hugs.
I just got a Dalmatian puppy and is it normal for him to bite or nip a lot? He also has a lot of temper tantrums and it’s a lot of work but he’s worth it.
Maybe people should know about their ability to smile? I say this because I used to own dalmatians. A lot of people didn't know this & will assume the dog to be aggressive or intimidating. Or has this trait been bred out of them by now?
I'm also surprised that this isn't mentioned more. Our family dog when I was younger would smile, mostly for members of the family, but sometimes for someone who she knew but hadn't seen in a while.
2 of my favourite breed of dogs r Dalmatians & Pit bull. If I have to choose between a Dalmatian and pit bull it's going to be tough plus I'm a sucker to Dalmatian.
I have owned Dalmatians for over 50 years, some of what you say is basic generalizations. Dals can be active, but well bred Dals after they get through their puppy stages when trained to be calm dogs, can be just that. They are more active before 2 years of age and yes, some are wild busy, but most are not. Stones and feeding. The issue is Purines in the protein in their diet. Good brands of chicken, turkey, salmon based diets especially ones with eggs as a protein booster are good diets. You do NOT need to fee high priced - high end diets to have a healthy Dal. Always remember that dilution is the solution. Which means, fresh water at all times and access to urinate often. Dals should never hold their urine during the day for more than 4 hours or at night for 8 hours. Deafness, again responsible breeders only breed BAER hearing tested dogs and have their puppies tested after 6 weeks of age for true results. After 50+ years I know Dals are the best breed!! They have so much to offer and are loyal to a fault! Some of their breed specific issues are really small compared to other breeds with much worse, life threatening health issues. Best advice is to find a breeder who does all health testing, who shows their dogs to compare them to the best and whos dogs are part of their family. May the best Spot enrich your life!!!
Hi, I'm getting a 10 month old dalmatian next week and I was wondering if you recommended any other dog food that wasn't as expensive as a prescription diet?
I like Hills LD diet. You can also buy Royal Canine Dalmatian diet. Its tough both are pricey but they do prevent the stones. I wish you luck! And I bet your puppy is going to be soo cute!
I recommend you get a list of purines so you can avoid them. Please note, it is NOT Protein but Purine. There is a difference. High protein is not recommended either. Since your Dalmatian has not produced any stones, you can have your veterinarian screen the urine. You do not need Hill's or Royal Canin. You can get low purines by reading. It is not low protein. it is low purine. I recommend Purina Pro Plan or Purina ONE Lamb or Purina Focus Lamb. Those are not high dollar foods. You can also check out Fromm Chicken and vegetables even though it does have a little liver in it ( a huge no-no) it is way down the list. 4 -Health Chicken n Rice or Lamb n Rice, sold at Tractor Supply can also be good. Also avoid any that have yeast in it. Get your purine list. Next, "float" your dog's meals. A 10 month old puppy may need 3 meals a day if in a growth spurt. However, once an adult, keep feeding 2 meals so you can add the extra water. I find that walks for the males helps to empty the bladder better as they seem to urinate a little here, a little there, but even a short walk will encourage them to urinate more. Do not leave your Dalmatian locked in a crate or pen for more than 3 to 4 hours without urinating. Done on a regular basis, this can cause sedimentation. Sedimentation can form stones due to the lack of flushing of the kidney / bladder. If you have a doggie door that would be great. If you must crate, think about putting your dog in a day care or day board with ability / yard "outs" to relieve himself, hire a pet sitter for 1 or 2 trips of exercise.
Gilda Turner yea I got a list of purines she’s almost a year now but she’s really small about 38 pounds. I’ve been feeding her 2 big meals a day of blue buffalo life protection chicken formula but I’ll look into the foods you recommended.
I have 2 and all I hear is “WhErE iS ThE OthEr 99”

i have dead ass never seen a Dalmatian in real life
I saw 2 one time about 20 years ago no joke...haha I was a kid and one of them jumped on my and scratched me bad

I remember in Mexico my aunt had one over there but It died
I have cuz I live in Croatia where they came from :-)
Yea true you rarely see them around I even forgot about them at one point but it’s cool to see for sure
I love my Dalmatian, he is so smart.
That’s awesome!
But why do other people say Dalmatians are mean
@@someperson5015 depends on how they were treated
thank you
Do u pull pranks on him?

❤️
We had a Dalmatian that helped raise our children. She was friend, protector, emotional support and just generally a fantastic dog. We lost her at 14 years old. Still deeply miss that dog!
Awe 12 years old! That’s great for a Dalmatian !
Sorry I mean 14!!! I was thinking in my head 12 is their normal age

My dal sheds SUPER bad

Two words: shark robot. My aunt bought one for us and cleans up my dogs hair clumps
We have one sleeping over because her boss had to go for surgery and I found out that Dalmatians are extremely affectionate, I have never seen a dog miss her boss this bad. Kinda sad, but they'll be reunited soon enough.
Dalmatian is my fav breed of dog after huskies
Yes, in fact they are like velcro!
If I don't send ours away, to their bed, they sit up next to me, leaning on my legs, pushing me slightly off the couch.
They'd be the perfect old granny's companion if it wasn't for their sheer size as they want to sit on your lap all the time :)

Very affectionate indeed. I have one who won't even drink water if I move too far away from him.

Did your Dalmatian have more energy than your Labrador? Also how did they do with cats/ other dogs?
@@sierratruchon3929 yup my dalmatians have so much more energy than my german shepherd and labrador.....my gs and labra are lazy af

I miss her.
She is the prettiest Vet I have ever seen and I love her personality will never stop watching your video you are so beautiful Doc
my neighbor has around 5 dalmatians and everytime i walk home, only the baby dalmatians bark like crazy haha. but they are so well trained because when the gate is open, they don’t leave at all. they are so cute.
@@drlindsaybutzer
Don't worry about what other people say of them, focus on yours and training them as you want them to act.
Here's a short video of when I trained/taught my Dalmatian to eat corn off the cob and leave the cob:

Highest energy breed she knows? Well damn I guess she’s never seen a Border Collie then 😂😂
p̶e̶a̶c̶h̶t̶e̶a̶ lol my Dalmatian is so mellow!
Or a malinois 😂
Thought the exact same thing 🤣
Oh yeah border collies have so much energy too! But I had to say that about Dalmatians because some people don't know they have energy too.
my male is mellow.. but he likes to run away on adventures on our farm and is not the best about listening to come back... I rescued him also so maybe he has selective hearing when he's on the run!
I have a four month old Dalmatian with my fiancé and it’s such a great time with him! We love him so much, so beautiful and he loves learning tricks!
They are the greatest.....unlike any other dog....and super strong too! Mine was the best dog you could ever want. He was so very similar to yours in manner, like the yawn at 2.30 and very similar to Daisy.
Dalmations are the most loving dog breed you can get, they cast 24/7 but when you see them smile it make my heart melt
haha they are very loving and so sweet
We've had our Dalmatian pup, Elton, for 6 months now. He is the absolute sweetest kid on the block!
We had a deaf Dalmatian growing up. She was Great! She was scared of things that made the ground shake like storms and fire works. Great personality too!
They're pretty hard headed and clever. Also, you're spot on about the energy.
I've heard had things but the one next door was super cool hardly barked and very friendly and almost dignified.
When I take my Dalmatian to the dog park, the other people thank me for bringing him, he tires out every other dog there hahaha
Dope, I have a mutt that's part dalmatian and boxer and he loves running. I try to go my absolute fastest and he's still faster
I'm 49. I have been missing my Dalmatian for 30 years now.
Awesome dogs, but yes they need lots of walks. Great family and guard dogs though.
@Dr Lindsay, Its so great that you covered the dietary needs/livercare aspect of dalmatians. It so often gets overlooked during other dalmatian videos. And yes they are the most beautiful breed.
Awe thank you! and im glad you enjoyed the video . I tried my best to include as much as possible in a short amount of time.

i had a Dalmatian for 12 and a half years. he was an awesome dog but very protective (especially of me).
My first dog was a Dalmatian and just came by to remember her trough this video thanks ❤️
She is also very protective but I believe she has been mistreated in her past, sorry that people don’t learn about animals instead of using sticks and spray water bottles, she will never need to worry about that life again. ,
Dals our my dream dog as well, my girlfriend agreed to get one and there’s a breeder near by. It’s gonna be a good Christmas

Thanks Gilda! Was thinking all those things. Not very much good info on dals here....
Gilda Turner THANK YOU for your correction and comment on deaf dogs. My dalmatian is deaf and because I am educated on Deaf culture (I am a teacher of students who are DeafBlind) I know that communicating with my dog is just different than with my hearing dog.
I have as well posted a response to this video on the Dalmatian United FB Group. Not a very good representation at all.

Thank you for the great information! Though I wish it had mentioned how they like to play, how loud they are, etc.

Yes exactly!! I try to make these videos to give people an idea of what type of dog they are getting into.

Recentlly adopted a Dalmation. Wonderful girl. I was thinking she might have hearing issue. This video confirms the likelyhood of that.

Dalmatians seem very similar to Labradors in terms of energy, friendliness, shape, size - wonderful dogs!

This is great! Thank you for sharing!
I can’t wait to get one of these amazing things eventually in the future. Had one growing up and she was amazing and she was a liver spotted one. Absolutely beautiful dog and hopefully when I get mine I can a liver spot one as well. But I like all types of Dalmatians.

Maybe people should know about their ability to smile? I say this because I used to own dalmatians. A lot of people didn't know this & will assume the dog to be aggressive or intimidating. Or has this trait been bred out of them by now?

Which is higher energy? A Dalmatian or a Dutch Shepard?
Just adopted a Dalmatian puppy she’s 9 weeks old and very high energy. So I’m watching several videos about them.
Awe that’s so exciting! Good luck! Send me pics on my Instagram LindsaybutzerDVM
What about a dalmatian mix? Should they be on a special diet too? Or is it less likely that they will need a special diet?
It's highly likely that a mix would be safe. Dogs affected by hyperuricosuria need to get it from both parents
What would be a good brand thats not super expensive of dog food for the urinary health?

Hi, I'm getting a 10 month old dalmatian next week and I was wondering if you recommended any other dog food that wasn't as expensive as a prescription diet?
I like Hills LD diet. You can also buy Royal Canine Dalmatian diet. Its tough both are pricey but they do prevent the stones. I wish you luck! And I bet your puppy is going to be soo cute!
Hey just any diet that is low in protein will help but if they start getting stones you need a special diet
@@drlindsaybutzer It is low purine.
Gilda Turner yea I got a list of purines she’s almost a year now but she’s really small about 38 pounds. I’ve been feeding her 2 big meals a day of blue buffalo life protection chicken formula but I’ll look into the foods you recommended.
My dalmatian is eating only one meal in 24 hours as its summer in India. Is it okay?
Please see a vet!
Had 3... They are so loving. You better be ready to give attention. :)
Should I get Dalmatian and please explain about the diet and liver stone
You forgot about the fur shedding! 😂
You forgot to mention the constant Shedding. They shed soooo much

Tim Henshall awe that’s so amazing! I want to see her! Send me pics to my Instagram @LindsaybutzerDVM!
Not sure where the 'medical cart' connection comes from. In the UK they were known as 'carriage dogs' and would run along side the stagecoaches.
In the US they often helped emergency services by clearing the roads back before motor vehicles became common
