Somehow I'd never read '84 Charing Cross Road' either before this year, but I really enjoyed it. I don't usually prefer epistolary novels, but this one worked perfectly. Something I'll definitely read again in the future. 😊 I love Ursula K LeGuin, and what a beautiful little book! Great find! ❤ And, wow, gorgeous special editions! 👏👏👏
_Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell_ looks amazing! I love the illustrations you showed. I keep telling myself to _buy digital_ to reduce my footprint, but then I find books that would look _so good_ in my future Victorian library (well, I hope future!) that I cave and pick up a physical set (my excuse is that it's an amazing deal!). Great book Haul Becca - happy reading :)
That is very relatable, it is ever a conflict to not be wasteful, but then lovely books. The world (or at least booktube) definitely demands you build a Victorian library and share it's wonders with us 😁
Ahhh, doing a bit of book shopping while on vacation is the best!! Excellent haul. Those special editions are gorgeous and I'm glad you were able to treat yourself!
Nothing better than browsing a bookshop in a different locale! I truly thought of making a wild flight route just to go through portland for no reason but to stop by Powells even, but that was somewhat impractical to do 😂 I definitely need to get to reading some more of what I've hauled before I splurge again now though.
@@ReadBecca Hear, hear! I keep hoping for a work trip to Portland so I can check out Powells...someday! Getting through the splurge pile takes a while!
Hopefully your brain fog subsides, a social media break definitely helps to clear out the cobwebs. I'm so glad to have abandoned FB a while back, I can't even imagine the mental toll that would be putting on me right now. Unless the book of Harold Fry is fairly different in tone, I rather don't see it being your sort, but if you wanted to try it one I would say to give the sample a go first for sure. Dusty thanks you for the wishes, he seems to be doing much better today!
84 Charing Cross Road is marvellous, as is the followup The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street. I don't think I've read Paradises Lost either, and I now want that edition. I have very little interest in essays but that Pratchett one sounds great. I really should read Jonathan Strange, I've had a copy at least 10 years, that folio edition is stunning!
You've read Piranesi though, I think? If you liked the writing there, and weren't put off by how intentionally certain things were belabored, you will probably really like Jonathan Strange. It has a beautiful balance of historical with the unreal, that makes it all feel very real. Plus the adaptation is absolutely amazing if you haven't seen it, the same guy who played Teatime in Hogfather basically took that character and re-applied it well for the main fae character.

Ooh what an excellent haul! The Le Guin books and the Pratchett essays sound great, and that edition of Jonathan Strange is stunning!
I definitely stumbled on a bunch random excellent things this past couple months.... now to actually read things I bought. 🤣

Great haul! All of these are new to me except Strange/Norrell and that is an awesome edition!
Glad to have exposed some things you haven't heard of, now hopefully I'll read them and they turn out excellent!
84 Charring cross is sweet. You found some awesome gems!
I did! Glad to have another endorsement of 84 Charing Cross, seems like everyone has read it but me!
Beautiful books 📚

@ReadBecca yeah I think Piranesi is an amazing book. It's on my list for next year for sure.
