Fiji 's kicker was incredible and they are contenders to leapfrog into the top tier of Rugby. Australians must now accept we have a developmental side, and we were never in contention for this world cup. 17 penalties lost us the game in the end, but across the board not the best performance from the Wallabies. Actually Rennie was doing well, a couple of close losses to big teams like France and Ireland made his stats look far worse then they actually were. The only reason they lost by a point to Italy was that Donaldson missed a conversion that an under 16 schoolboy regularly puts over. The sacking of Rennie by Hamish McLennan was devastating for the continuity and morale the rebuilding project. McLennan is the real architect of this disaster.

But what he's doing is giving these guys the experience. Aus have a very young team. Watch them at the next WC. Even before that. Give these guys two years and they are going to be a force to he reckoned with. This coming from a Bok fan. So I see Eddie long term vision. Just not sure if he will be there.

Let's talk about the state of Rugby in Australia for a second. I think Rugby is a lost cause now in Australia, i would love to be convinced otherwise. I think where the money has gone and been pumped into for so long and now being more or less dried up has left us with irreversible damage. Look at how many registered Rugby players there are in Aus. It's pathetic for a country that's bigger than most of our competition. The real issues are how ARU has been run for so long, pumping money into all the wrong places, Rugby is probably Aus's 5th or 6th sport now, the 5 team system in the Super League, the privatization of the competition not making it easily accessible to the working class, and that most Private school kids are more ambitious in life than playing for the wallabies. Essentially the strategy for ages has been recruit the best Islander talent because all top athletic Aussie talent goes to NRL and AFL. Long story short these are your obstacles to overcome and I don't think our culture cares enough anymore. I remember the early 2000s every one was so geeed up for the Wallabies and it was everywhere. I only know a few people who are truly invested in the World Cup right now! This with the pace at which the so called tier 2 (which I would argue Aus are in now) are catching up tell me that it that we are now seeing the fully realised death of Australian Rugby. I'm super sad about this coming from Canberra, the home of our best domestic team that can still stick it to the kiwis. The Eddie Jones signing just screams of desperation and since we got him we have won 1/9 games including losses to Argentina and now Fiji. How can anyone possibly say that's ok.

Spot on. I’m a die hard nrl supporter but everyone supports national teams no matter the sport or rivalry. Look at the Matilda’s. The Aussie public is just burnt out from disappointment with the wallabies. So many performances that feel like they let the jersey down and you don’t feel proud of. It all starts at the top, and it feels like the old boys club just hasn’t adapted the game from the grassroots up. AFL and NRL have built a fantastic product but it’s because the talent coming through is so well developed that we have superstars at every age group in the game, and the competition is competitive across the board. Not sure how to fix Union but all I can say is I’m glad I didn’t waste 80mins watching that game, compared to the nrl finals which has been phenomenal watching. 🤷🏼
