I hate how so many "health nut" people talk about food in such a way that it makes people feel like certain groups of food are "forbidden" or like they need to not eat or something. Nutritionists, however, have never made me feel like that. They give helpful advice for keeping your body healthy, which goes far beyond simple weight, and I'm so glad they exist with all the fad diet chaos we're constantly subjected to.

unfortunately nutritionists are not a protected/certified group. anyone, including you or I, can say we are a nutritionist without any repercussions - unlike the legally protected term 'dietician', which actually requires years of medical study. taking advice from a nutritionist, is like going to a toothiologist rather than a dentist for your tooth issues :)

Fad diets were the first health propaganda that gets people to mass experiment on humans through their own volition and think it is their idea. Just like they did with the jabs. Just shows how great the media is in influencing the mindless and how much group think it creates. Maybe we should do something about the media.

      A dietitian saved my life.
A physician put me on a 1200 k/day diet instead of re-examining her Dx and the meds she had put me on....for 5 years.
I moved to a new state, and went back to uni to get a degree (and figure out how to help my autistic child, because ABA was NOT IT).
The 3 nutrition classes I took were taught by the same RD, and she had us do a food journal for a week and then figure out macros/micros etc and our averages for the week.
She asked why I was eating so few calories for my activity level, and I told her my doctor had put me on the diet I was following. She asked how much longer, and I told her "until I get back down to the healthy BMI for my height" because that's what the doc had told me to do.
How long have you been eating like this?
      "Five years"
She called a clinic, asked when the next opening was, got me an appt, and told them I needed cardio work up, kidney and liver function, and several other tests.
I have permanent heart damage and some other ongoing health problems, but a decade later I am still here.
If I'd continued, I would have slowly starved attempting to undo damage while more damage was being done by the meds.
After increasing caloric intake, I finally started having energy to keep up with my grandkids and I lost inches but gained weight. Apparently liposuction is the only way to get rid of the fat deposits left from being put on the wrong medication (the rapid weight gain should have been the indicator that it was the wrong med, along with my kidney and pancreas problems that started within the first 6 weeks of being started on the med).
I try not to be bitter over the years I lost with my kids due to wrong medication, and the rapid weight gain and med induced diabetes.
I have zero problems being incredibly grateful for the RD who taught my class, and got me on the journey to better health!

If you're asking why water doesn't fix failing or otherwise diseased kidneys, well, that's sort of like asking why a band-aid won't fix a gunshot wound. There are lots of reasons a kidney can have lowered function, most of which have nothing to do with water consumption. An organ in free-fall can't be fixed by such a small component of healthy functioning, just like a hole in your abdomen can't be patched with a bandage. Water and bandages are helpful, but they're aren't everything in medicine.

@@vin_2620 I have been on TPN for 5 years and while it is a huge blessing and is the reason I am still alive today, there are definitely downsides and it is not convenient. I hope you don't mind me explaining some of what is required of a patient who has a central line and is on TPN.
To infuse TPN a central line is necessary. Central lines require weekly dressing changes and central lines come with a high infection risk. Myself and many others have had to fight sepsis which is an awful thing to go through. I am as careful as humanly possible with my line but despite that an infection risk still exists and unfortunately I have had multiple infections which require an admission, weeks of IV antibiotics, and the infected central line must be removed and replaced. Removing and replacing a line is typically done with the patient awake and I have other conditions which make it so the meds used to keep patients comfortable are ineffective for me which means the procedure is unfortunately quite painful for me. Other treatments can be needed while fighting a blood infection but those are the two things that are almost always necessary.
TPN requires large weekly shipments which include the TPN and additional supplies needed for the week. TPN requires preparation everyday. The home health company mixes the bags of TPN for us weekly based on our labs but certain vitamins and meds can only be added right before it is infused because they are not stable in the TPN long term. Adding these vitamins and meds require drawing them out of a vial into a syringe and injecting them into the TPN bag. I personally have to add 2 vials of vitamins and 3 vials of other medications. Then we must spike the bag, prime the tubing, flush our central line, and connect the tubing to the central line. My TPN infuses over 16 hours everyday. Thankfully the pump used is much smaller than what you typically see in hospitals but I am still attached to a 2L bag of TPN for 16 hours everyday.
One of the most important things to mention is that it is EXTREMELY important that we follow aseptic technique when we care for our central line, prepare TPN, prepare other IV meds, or anything else we may do that involves our line. You can never be too careful. You can't be lazy because one miniscule mistake could lead to an infection which can cost you your life. It is a scary reality that the thing keeping us alive could also become infected and cost us our life. Living with a central line requires that we advocate when we see someone caring for our line improperly. If we are in the hospital for any reason many people are handling our line which requires a lot of advocating. As you could imagine, having to fiercely advocate for ourselves can be difficult in those situations because we are going through so much already but it is necessary to reduce the chances of a blood infection being added into the mix.
Showering is also challenging, it may not be something you thought would be effected but we can't get the central line or the dressing wet therefore we must cover it up and sometimes this is more challenging depending on where the central line is placed.
Another problem we face is supplies being unavailable. A variety of supplies has become unavailable throughout the pandemic and sometimes there are alternatives that can be used but other times there are not. Almost everyone on TPN must add vitamins to their TPN and unfortunately there have been long periods where the vitamins have been unavailable leading to low levels of these vitamins in our blood
I guarantee you it takes far more energy to have a central line and prepare TPN than it does to prepare a meal. Everything we must do would be a lot for anyone but it is even more difficult considering we are chronically ill and never know how our body will be feeling day to day. Being able to eat and taste food everyday is a huge luxury. Also think about how many social gatherings revolve around food. We each find our own ways to cope but it is not always easy to watch people enjoy the food we so wish we could enjoy ourselves. I hope after reading what people must do to stay alive when their GI tract fails them, you might appreciate more how much of a blessing it is for you to be able to eat and nourish your body with food.

My RD, on the other hand, taught me about Intuitive Eating, helped me not be so black and white about my perspective on food, and honestly work through a lot of emotional stuff tied to food.

I'm a dietician, and yeah, type 2 diabetes can be put into some sort of "remission", as in: you might need less to no medication, while still being careful about your diet. This can happen to overweight people who shortly after being diagnosed lose a certain amount of weight.
But in general, you can eat whatever you want, within reason. More important is the combination of carbohydrate-rich foods with carb-brakes (proteinrich foods and fats), which allows for a better regulated stream of glucose into your bloddstream.

@@Ravioliyt Whats the main point of a diet? Lose weight. What do you consider weight? Fat. What is fat? It's long term stores of secondary energy to be used when energy from food isn't always available. How do you lose fat? Do something that requires you to use more energy that day than what you eat and forcing your body to use it's secondary energy stores.
Starving yourself isn't an effective way because you still require lots of vitamins that your body cant produce naturally like vitamin C. Therefore moderating your calorie intake vs your energy expended is the most effective way to CONTROL your weight. And most people don't do very much so its easy to put on weight. Meats and carbohydrates, like steak and potatoes, are very energy dense so you don't need very much to fulfill your energy needs. But the human body can't measure energy directly. So it uses quantity and taste. The quantity is how much you can fit in your stomach and foods that are tasty are ones that our body knows to be energy dense (thats why humans love sugar so much).
      Energy in vs energy out.

Just to name a few things he denied the use of therapeutics (because of vaccines that never came) which ended up being what was used to actually help eventually. He also claimed that it was something that all people were getting and that wasn't much more dangerous for the homosexual community (even though data showed it earlier on) , and even claimed aids could be spread through a family via "touching a cereal box". I think it's more complicated than that (which type of attractiveness, for instance) but if it's purely physical, that has nothing to do with being a snake oil salesman. If they're your friend, I hope that's what they meant; either way, they need to be shown how awful "America's doctor" really is.

As someone who been on 3 liters of T.P.N for 17yrs n counting. I know first hand how much work n effort the dieticians go through into making my feed. If I didn't get my T.P.N then i wouldn't be here. My life depends on it. So thank you so much.xxx
