Law enforcement action at US universities ‘disproportionate’: UN

- The UN has voiced concerns regarding the treatment of pro-Palestine protesters at US universities.
The spokesperson for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Marta Hurtado, said “We are concerned that some of law enforcement actions across a series of universities appear disproportionate in their inputs.”
Protests have swept through US higher education institutions, with many erecting tent encampments on campus grounds after about 100 protesters were first arrested at Columbia University in New York on April 18.
At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, police moved in on Tuesday morning to clear one encampment, detaining some protesters.
At the University of Texas at Austin, police also clashed with protesters on Monday, including using pepper spray, and made arrests while dismantling an encampment, adding to hundreds detained nationwide over the weekend.
Al Jazeera’s team of correspondents are covering this story across US universities.

Faculty and students are the heart, soul and the core value of any university.
Administrators don’t add value. They are supposed to help manage the logistics of the university and are middlemen. They are the easiest to replace, and should be if they don’t foster free speech, discourse and peaceable solutions.
Respect these students fighting for justice for Palestinians in a way that they are able to make an impact . May American president align back their policy of human rights, so that the world include Palestine also receive proper treatment.

Without the United States of America YOU would be living in a cave, stone building, or wood hut with a thatched roof, carrying your water from a stream in a bucket with half of your teeth missing and cooking and heating over a campfire using wood that YOU PERSONALLY went out and gathered from a forest. And you would be using the bathroom outdoors and washing your clothes in a stream.
Your connection to the outside world would be extremely limited and depending on your specific situation, you may not even know what is happening beyond your own village -- let alone around the world. 🌎
My advice is that before you "laugh" at any American, first try going without American invented lightbulbs 💡 for 24 hours and learn how American 🇺🇸 ingenuity has helped YOU see 👀 in the dark.

I’m glad that some of the students had actual reasons to protest. However, some students don’t seem to have a selfless purpose of being there. I’ve seen a couple videos already of protesters damaging the property or taking part in the protest to get social media content.

Columbia University invited Ron Johnson and the founder of the Proud Boys to their campus. Then we suddenly had break-ins in some of the buildings. When I saw the videos, they looked exactly like the January 6 incursions in the Capitol. Please do not assume the students of Columbia University suddenly would resort to violence when they haven't done so in all this time of protesting. (I live near Columbia and have friends who work for Columbia.)
It's just like BLM protests. The original location in MN, the precinct was burned and attacked by Boogaloo (right wing extremists). At least one guy from Texas was caught and sent to prison for it. In Oakland, another Boog murdered federal security and local police from Santa Cruz before being caught. The guy was Air Force, sent to prison. It's always outside agitators trying to take advantage of protests to hide their activities.
