I’m cracking on with clearing the inside and shifting things about to get some ideas before final layout plans are drawn up. Today I tackle the galley #diy #boat #build
Three thoughts from this episode... 1. Love that we finally got to hear Sweary Dan swear while moving the counter top. 2. Please keep the knives on the magnet strip on the wall thru the entire rebuild. 3. Within the next 4 or 5 episodes James will have ripped out the walls either due to mold or wiring and water pipe issues or that they weren"t "proper".
Moving forward apace. Is the hob next to the passageway or at an angle across the corner away from people brushing past? 'Tis your boat, but just a thought. 😎
When you snapped the countertop, for a second I thought I was looking at a different narrowboat channel. You could say you were having a Nomadic Crobot moment! The plywood below the gunwales around the galley area look a bit dodgy. It could probably be sanded off--definitely should use a mask!--and primed. If the mould is still evident, I would recommend using Zinser or a zinc primer of some kind to contain it. Nice galley lay-out. Looks practical and roomy. You might want to check out Travels With Geordie if you need some inspiration. Recent videos have involved installing a galley in a classic wooden cruiser.
Just a thought James. While your mate is replacing the frosted window with a hatch (great idea,) you could have the opportunity to make the other hatch a bit bigger. Great to see everything moving along so well. Cheers
A right dodgy sod 🤣 My toes were curling when you were working near that knife rack, visions of an impaled James! That magnetic rack is really useful, I've got one in my tool cupboard. Are you still having two bedrooms?
Hello from CV in US. James Have you thought about a shoe closet right there by your platform which could be located on top of stars. Most Japanese homes have an entrance area for outdoor shoes to stay separate from the interior. I was concerned about the dirt from outside being next to your food prep areas. Just a thought.
I have a stern deck so wet and dirty stuff can stay outdoors. I tried having indoor only shoes on sloe patrol but it’s such a hassle Hello from England
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt I forgot about your plans for a stern deck pram. I can only image the amount of dirt narrow boaters have to deal with in mud seasons. As always, you will come up with a creative solution.
Are you still planning to reduce the aft entrance landing from 70 to 60 (whatever measurement)? I hope you at least added some primer to those welded spots, prior to adding the foam?

Sorry, you have worked so hard and deserve a medal 🥇 for all your hard work. However, the black on the boards, where the galley was, looks like Black Mold. This is a very bad health hazard. You need to be very careful and as someone else pointed out, wear a mask. They either should be replaced or be neutralized. Also behind them should be treated too. Just don't breathe it in or you could develop lung problems. I know it's a lot more work, but your safety and health is more important. God bless you! Not many men I know would work as hard as you.🫡
The quality of the walls looks terrible. Even the painted areas look like they only had one coat of paint with ugly paint stripes all over the place. I would rebuild the walls.
@@IDKline I agree. The ply looks to be in terrible state. Also, clearly it was built by an amateur. Who knows what kind of crap installations hide behind those walls and floor. I would rebuild just so everything can be inspected properly. You almost got a blank canvas there. Why not do it proper and go all the way.
I've been waiting for you to take that huge knife 🔪 down off the wall, every time you start banging around near it I think its going to drop off and cut something vital off you!!! 😖
Your comment about needing to move the kitchen knife in order to avoid looking like a "dodgy sod" really cracked me up.
Haha!! Glad

9:22 Sweary Dan living up to his moniker.
Ive just started ripping my old kitchen out. Cant wait to fit my new one
Thanks again for sharing your day.
All the best.

The Right Dodgy Sods, your new band name.

It’ll be at an angle to stop exactly that

Yeah that snap was a bit him I get that. I’ll check out that other channel thanks for ideas
Undermount sinks are glued to the benchtop prior to install. We never stop learning 🙂
Nice hair James ;-)
Does he combine it?
Comb not combine

I’m ok with the other hatch - it’s a lot of work to enlarge
Those gas bottles are like gold dust! They're £108 each, if you can actually get one, as there's still a national shortage!
A right dodgy sod 🤣

I would remove all walls just for piece of mind and re-secure them. Is the darker stained wood from where the kitchen was stained with dead mold?
I think many are fine but I’m going today to see if I can fix them back in
I understood you to say that you was going to turn project 58 into a two bed narrowboat
Well James a long way to go but the layout is going to be grand
@@alanrichardson1672you’re a funny man

Yeah the aft companionway will be smaller slightly
Will your layout include a bedroom for the various combinations of kids?
Yes it will somehow
There's another meaning to "laying some cable" you know! You might want a bucket and some compost...
Haha!! I know
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt That's the "septics"for you!:)
Only £90 James? It still costs me more than that to fill my car! ☹

Yeah under a quid a litre again
With you having the slow patrol narrowboat and project 58 are you a live aboard or do you have a house that you live in with your kids??
I live on sloe patrol (my kids live fairly close by) and I work on project 58
💜💙💚
Dan's on video. Demonitized 😅
I’ve been told by UA-cam to keep his minutes down and his lips closed
Underused word of the month - shimmy. crack on...

Hey there
I’m not sure it’s mould at all. It’s air discolouring and grime. I’ll be securing it all in whilst using a mask though
