  • VISITING MUSEYO KUTAWATO
When I visited Kidapawan City, I got the chance to explore the newly opened museum of Cotabato province - the Museyo Kutawato.
"Museyo Kutawato is the premiere institution of Cotabato Province in declaring to the world that through its cultural heritage, barriers can be broken, so unity and peace can be achieved. Museyo Kutawato is a public museum that educates on the rich cultural heritage of the tri-people of Cotabato Province."
The design elements of the logo are composed of the hands and Kutawato.
The concept is inspired on a three hands joining together to represent the tri-people of Cotabato; at the center is a stylized rendition of the prehistoric Kutawato, the old fort of stone from where the name of the province was derived, constructed in three pillars to form the monogram M for Mindanao.
Its banner message is - "Peace is our building stone."
The exhibition navigates around the curatorial concept of "Embracing Diversity, Cotabato Unity." Inside the museum, you can immerse in the different galleries which showcase the rich history and diverse culture of Cotabato province.
    These are the following exhibitions/galleries:
~ Mamalu and Tabunaway Preview Theater
A preview in 3D cinematic animation lays the traditional framework of peace among Cotabato's diversity, even as it has become a land wreaked havoc by the spoils of war.
    ~ Lord of the Pulangi
The paramount sovereign, Sultan Muhammad Dipatuan Kudarat, opened Cotabato to the trade winds of the world.
    ~ Idsangakuan: Face of Diversity
Central to the understanding of Cotabato is the material universe of its diverse peoples against the backdrop of the water world that characterizes the Cotabato landscape.
    ~ Kapaganggaya: Gift Giving
An essential part of Moro tradition was gifting arriving guests from their array of indigenous brasswares, many of which have survived the ages, now part of the museum's collection as a testimony of characteristic reciprocity of the Cotabato
    peoples.
    ~ Kadumaan: Peoples' Connectivities
No matter the war that ravages lives, a cultural DNA among its people continues to erase any disconnect between them, a remarkable facet of Cotabato culture.
~ Bataluan Nu Dili Kadsasabuta: Trials of Misunderstanding
The museum aims to provide a new understanding, and encourages a study of the roots of conflict in its wartime moments, from the lens of its own storytellers.
~ Pakapaginakgay: Handum sa Cotabato (Yearning for Cotabato)
The yearning for Cotabato is not only a hankering, but are tangible demonstrations of peace that take place in the grassroots, at times a source of amazement because these are Cotabato demeanors hardly known to the outside world.
    ~ Magsinadya Kita!
Peace is celebrated because cultural diversity is a cause for celebration, more so when barriers are broken, concordances achieved. The museum presents the festival moments of the Cotabato people accompanied by a high resolution LED floor canvas of the real Kalivungan Festival.
    ~ Ked-Peti-Hayun: Dialogue
The museum exhibition is both immersive and participatory; at the finale, the viewer is confronted with the question of committing to the work of peace.
Museyo Kutawato opens every weekdays (except holidays), 9AM to 4PM. It is located at the Provincial Capitol Compound, Barangay Amas, Kidapawan City, Cotabato Province.
