Very interesting video so you'll have to accept my bits below. I now have an old deck of cards in my workshop.
The hole in one is interesting- I've watched people cut off dowels and wondered how they kept from scratching the parallel surface. I vowed to use something under the saw if I ever do this myself.
At 7:20 you show the piece that you are trying to fit in slightly sloped. This will always throw off the measurements because the diagonal distance is longer than the flat distance. If that board was 10" long the difference is about 0.030", or 3 playing cards in your measurements. At 7:36 you show the correct way to measure with the piece parallel to its final position.
"As Jane showed..." should be "As Leah showed...".

  • @peem1244

A few good ideas there. Need to get me some more playing cards now. PS. A proper flush cut saw has teeth 'set' to one side only so shouldn't damage your work piece if used correctly. :)🙂

I like using cards to micro adjust stop blocks:
If it needs to move out I'll put the material up against the stop, loosen the stop, put a card in between and then set the stop. Then i can remove the card and put the material back up against the stop.
If it needs to move in I'll put a card between the material and stop, loosen the stop while holding the material firmly, remove the card, loosen the stop, move it to the material and set it there.
Hope all that made sense and didn't turn into big blobs of words!

Card trick for drawer front was nice but you sort of cheated using a drawer front you could sneak a clamp around:) I am just a weekend woodworker. Nowhere near your level. But when I had this issue I put double sided tape on drawer front after I got the gaps right I pressed the front hard against the drawer. Tape holds it in place for me to open it and clamp. Don't know if that is a well known practice or a stupid idea I just came up with.
