This song is not just epic...In certain songs the music lingers through the air and takes you wherever you want, whenever you want...Then emotions mix with each other and, there you have it, magic. This song reminds me of my childhood, where things in my country seemed promising...
This movie was beyond perfection, part of the holy trinity (this, Con Air and Face/off). The cast, the story, the hidden meaning, the plot, the music, perfect!
This is one of my favorite themes, it captures the sadness and anger in Hummel's reasoning, and makes it something you can feel. I get shivers every time I listen to it. It has a quality one expects when there is a sort of victory but only after the loses were too great.

This soundtrack reminds me of the music in Metal Gear Solid a lot. Actually, the story of The Rock could very well work in an MGS game and Hummell's motivations fit the theme of the games.
Slim Charles So Zimmer didn't steal it ? =D I was kinda wondering how is that possible. However MGS experience is lighyears away from this slightly above avarege 90's action flick... so yea. Keep dreaming Cage, Snake is the Legend.
I am wondering about the 4-5 hours a day too. I am a fat loser and I dont watch the same movie 2 times per day all the time. You also said you watch it "atleast" 2 times. geez dude
I remember buying this soundtrack soon after the movie came out. I would listen to it all the time, especially around the house when I needed some motivation. =) It still motivates me in so many ways, even if it's to simply improve myself and do the absolute best job I can. =) This is the most excellent soundtrack of all time!! =)

+Terry Fox The movie has been released in 96, Shazam came a couple of years later (99 I presume). And given the fact you were mentioning 15 years, that draw us back to 2000 as you comment were published a year ago were Shazam indeed existed at that time. *flies away* PS: I'm not even trolling, I was genuinely checking music with Shazam 15 years ago myself.
This film does what most films refuse to do: present a moral dilemma that not only civilians can understand, but more importantly, what veterans can as well at the same time. I don't know what cinema of the 90s did to infuse the understanding of duty, honor & sacrifice that both civilian & veteran can understand & mutually agree with, but that's been missing for quite awhile. For those that disagree with me on that analysis, just watch the first 5 minutes of this movie. Then you may begin to understand...
1:30 i had to stand up and salute... a single tear rolled down my cheek. i felt like i could die for a cause... something worthy... So help me god i will finish these chicken wings or die trying.
It's very rare when u personally take the side of villian in film. Ed Harris have so big reason to become criminal - u just have to sympatise him after that.
So true, his death make me so sad, he was not a psychopath, just a desperate man who tried to bring the truth to every one. He even had a chance to kill innocent people, when one of the missile is launched, but he didn't want to make civillian casualtie.
I used to listen to this soundtrack when driving to and from college. My friends thought I was weird for listening to movie soundtracks that much. Now it's a "cool" thing to listen to movie soundtracks. Symphonies play soundtracks live in their halls while the movie plays on a screen for the audience. Hans Zimmer, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, James Horner, and Jerry Goldsmith were my favorite soundtrack composers back in the 90s. Add in John Williams and Ennio Morricone and I could listen to these composers forever. I would like to think Beethoven, Bach, and the rest of the classical composers would have done the same thing if movies were made when they were alive.
General Hummell: "You will give that order!" Commander Anderson:"I am not gonna repeat that order!" General Hummell: "What the hell is wrong with you, man!"
This is probably the most important soundtrack in The Rock: On one hand, it signals Cage`s remembrance of the Green Smoke while being caught in the claws of death: his near death experience and heroic flaring of the green smoke. On another hand, this is the music bit from the beginning, a masterpiece of a movie beginning, with Ed Harris` wife`s funeral and his grave approaching. Probably the moment which signals his turn to the dark side. Lastly, this soundtrack contains the music bit of the General`s team breaking into the US missiles compound. So it contains the beginning, the end of the action and the intrigue. Great

Always a favorite.

I think so too. such an epic piece of Music
This soundtrack reminds me of the music in Metal Gear Solid a lot. Actually, the story of The Rock could very well work in an MGS game and Hummell's motivations fit the theme of the games.
yeah, i was just thinking the same thing :P
Harry Gregson-Williams helped with the music for The Rock and has written music for every MGS game since MGS2. That's why.
Really? I had no idea. It makes sense though, thanks for letting me know man!

Unfortunately he makes more money off of transformers and TMNT. Although I think both have been take out of his hands now.
