No, hes not a bad singer. The problem is he just cant sing his old material anymore which is a damn shame, their old material was the best stuff. It also sounds like hes trying to hard to sing with grit to try to mask his naturally feminine singing voice. The irony is his naturally feminine voice sounds a hell of a lot better than him trying to avoid it. Watch some performances from 2012, he just embraces it and it sounds fantastic, he pulls off nearly every note in the song.

I've seen Sleeping With Sirens 5 times and this is what he sounds like when his voice is tired. It does strain your voice trying to hit those notes even if his voice is pretty high so are those notes. Overall good job for going on stage and giving it his all.

They were having issues with the mics for most of the award show where vocals were getting lost/dropped periodically. Outside shows are always tricky when it comes to mics, especially if there is any sort of wind because vocals tend to get lost, drowned out or distorted. She never said that they always have issues with his microphone every time they perform live as you insinuated. 2. I just saw them live and they, including Kellin, were as good, if not better, live than on their albums.
It wasn't the microphone. Mics don't make singers miss notes. That's not how it works. Kellin was just having an off night. He was either sick, had a tired/strained voice, or was just having a rough night. These things happen to ALL performers. I'm not taking anything away from his talent as a vocalist, but this was just a poor performance by him. It happens.

This is a perfect example of what happens when your constantly trying to sing out of a key that's comfortable for you and not being able to deliver live. Always sing in your range, never try to constantly push yourself by singing high ass notes every 10 seconds just do show off. Then all you have to do is butcher one or two notes in the songs live instead of the whole goddamn thing.

Stop saying microphones are the cause of shitty sounding vocals. They aren't. Microphones can crackle and they can have terrible volume levels if not mixed properly but even then that's the mixer and not the mic. Yes the audio engineer at these live shows usually aren't the best, mostly because they're usually roadies and not legitimately trained techs. About Kellin: there are only two legitimate excuses for sucking live. If the vocalist is sick, or if the vocalist has the hiccups. Those two scenarios are entirely out of the vocalists control and it's entirely understandable. Do you know what is NOT an excuse? Being shitfaced or any level of drunk. I'm so disappointed with all of the people with the mentality of "oh they / he / she was drunk so it's okay." These guys are supposed to be professional musicians. If Jimmy shows up at his 9-5 job and accidentally ghost-rides a tractor into a fucking gasoline tank and blows his entire place of work sky-high, is that Jimmy's fault? Yes. If Jimmy was drunk does it make it any less shitty? No. In both scenarios people would think Jim over here is some sort of mega fuck, but if anything being drunk makes it worse because if he was sober people could at least say some shit like, "man Jimmy you've got about as much luck as a black cat under a set of stairs." Being drunk is just irresponsible and makes the user look like an asshat if they're at their place of work where they're expected to be professional. So to wrap up: Kellin should be sober for his show. After the show get wasted, I don't give a shit. But at a show? At a ONCE IN A YEAR AWARD CEREMONY? Get it together boys. Also as a bonus note: another aspect of being a fuckin' PROFESSIONAL is to be able to sing your songs as close to the record as humanly possible. Is it realistic to expect a vocalist to be pitch perfect for every phrase? No. But if you're a professional and you can't sing even HALF of your OWN song properly, it turns out that you actually aren't all that professional. Professional vocal work has SO many intricate components that make it what it is. There's the different vocal registers, compression amounts, tone combinations, breath control, styles of vibrato, etc. A professional who actually gives a shit about being the best they can be can learn all of these things and be fantastic almost every single time. People say "oh he has to warm up." Warming up should be done BEFORE you get on stage. The reason he can't sing this song like he does on the record? He isn't nearly as practiced as he could and arguably should be, and bands like these record way outside of their comfort zone making it nearly impossible to replicate live. It doesn't matter if SlopVoice McGoo can hit an E note in the 4th octave with a mixed voice. If he can't do that on command 4/5 times, he shouldn't be incorporating that into his vocal melodies. Why? Because if it takes someone like Kellin 4 attempts to hit that note properly in the studio (before it's even dampened with production effects) when he goes to sing it live and he's hot and tired (and maybe even drunk, let's be realistic) he's going to sound pretty darn bad when he's singing that phrase 2 octaves lower and making up some B-side freestyle melodies to cover his tracks. TLDR nothing against Kellin or any other vocalist in this / all genres, but I really wish these motherfuckers would practice singing properly if they're going to make a career out of it.

Another pet peeve of mine is when a singer CAN'T do this and the whole band has to play a step and a half lower than on the record. Uh... train your voice so you can sound the best you can be! Unless you want a bad wrap from real musicians.
Sleeping With Sirens is probably my favorite band. I saw SWS with All Time Low in October during the Back to the Future Hearts Tour. They were amazing. This performance was not good for multiple reasons, but that doesn't mean that every single live performance is shit. I don't know if he was drunk, sick, or his voice was worn out from performing so much, but this just wasn't an accurate representation of the band's live performances. As for the people saying that every concert is awful, um... okay? Have you seen every single concert? I don't want to sound like a bitch, but really. You can't generalize that they suck live just because you have some problem with the band. I get that it's your opinion, but saying flat out that they suck live then claiming that it's not an opinion just a fact makes you seem extremely ignorant and uneducated. Also, the crowd really sucked. I'm not saying that they were trying to be awful, but it wasn't a good crowd as far as crowds go. Most of the people probably didn't know the band or the song (because it wasn't just a concert, it was an awards show), so it isn't their fault. I've seen them live and they were great. Recorded live versions some times suck. Live recordings of all time low and fall out boy rarely sound good and ive seen them both live a lot. I think his mic was going out a few times too.
Ally & Ash ive seen them quite a few times live. he does sound like this live too. It's not just because it's recorded. Many bands sound great live because they overcompensate with loudness and people get caught up in it. Try wearing earplugs one day, it allows you to hear it so much better and you can tell which bands actually are terrible live.

I've seen Sleeping With Sirens 5 times and this is what he sounds like when his voice is tired. It does strain your voice trying to hit those notes even if his voice is pretty high so are those notes. Overall good job for going on stage and giving it his all.

1. She did not say "It's always the microphone." She said, "[It] is the fucking microphone," which is actually at least partially true. They were having issues with the mics for most of the award show where vocals were getting lost/dropped periodically. Outside shows are always tricky when it comes to mics, especially if there is any sort of wind because vocals tend to get lost, drowned out or distorted. She never said that they always have issues with his microphone every time they perform live as you insinuated.
2. I just saw them live and they, including Kellin, were as good, if not better, live than on their albums.
It wasn't the microphone. Mics don't make singers miss notes. That's not how it works. Kellin was just having an off night. He was either sick, had a tired/strained voice, or was just having a rough night. These things happen to ALL performers. I'm not taking anything away from his talent as a vocalist, but this was just a poor performance by him. It happens.

This is a perfect example of what happens when your constantly trying to sing out of a key that's comfortable for you and not being able to deliver live. Always sing in your range, never try to constantly push yourself by singing high ass notes every 10 seconds just do show off. Then all you have to do is butcher one or two notes in the songs live instead of the whole goddamn thing.

Stop saying microphones are the cause of shitty sounding vocals. They aren't. Microphones can crackle and they can have terrible volume levels if not mixed properly but even then that's the mixer and not the mic. Yes the audio engineer at these live shows usually aren't the best, mostly because they're usually roadies and not legitimately trained techs.
About Kellin: there are only two legitimate excuses for sucking live. If the vocalist is sick, or if the vocalist has the hiccups. Those two scenarios are entirely out of the vocalists control and it's entirely understandable. Do you know what is NOT an excuse? Being shitfaced or any level of drunk.
I'm so disappointed with all of the people with the mentality of "oh they / he / she was drunk so it's okay." These guys are supposed to be professional musicians. If Jimmy shows up at his 9-5 job and accidentally ghost-rides a tractor into a fucking gasoline tank and blows his entire place of work sky-high, is that Jimmy's fault? Yes. If Jimmy was drunk does it make it any less shitty? No. In both scenarios people would think Jim over here is some sort of mega fuck, but if anything being drunk makes it worse because if he was sober people could at least say some shit like, "man Jimmy you've got about as much luck as a black cat under a set of stairs." Being drunk is just irresponsible and makes the user look like an asshat if they're at their place of work where they're expected to be professional.
So to wrap up: Kellin should be sober for his show. After the show get wasted, I don't give a shit. But at a show? At a ONCE IN A YEAR AWARD CEREMONY? Get it together boys.
Also as a bonus note: another aspect of being a fuckin' PROFESSIONAL is to be able to sing your songs as close to the record as humanly possible. Is it realistic to expect a vocalist to be pitch perfect for every phrase? No. But if you're a professional and you can't sing even HALF of your OWN song properly, it turns out that you actually aren't all that professional.
Professional vocal work has SO many intricate components that make it what it is. There's the different vocal registers, compression amounts, tone combinations, breath control, styles of vibrato, etc. A professional who actually gives a shit about being the best they can be can learn all of these things and be fantastic almost every single time. People say "oh he has to warm up." Warming up should be done BEFORE you get on stage. The reason he can't sing this song like he does on the record? He isn't nearly as practiced as he could and arguably should be, and bands like these record way outside of their comfort zone making it nearly impossible to replicate live. It doesn't matter if SlopVoice McGoo can hit an E note in the 4th octave with a mixed voice. If he can't do that on command 4/5 times, he shouldn't be incorporating that into his vocal melodies. Why? Because if it takes someone like Kellin 4 attempts to hit that note properly in the studio (before it's even dampened with production effects) when he goes to sing it live and he's hot and tired (and maybe even drunk, let's be realistic) he's going to sound pretty darn bad when he's singing that phrase 2 octaves lower and making up some B-side freestyle melodies to cover his tracks.
TLDR nothing against Kellin or any other vocalist in this / all genres, but I really wish these motherfuckers would practice singing properly if they're going to make a career out of it.

Sleeping With Sirens is probably my favorite band. I saw SWS with All Time Low in October during the Back to the Future Hearts Tour. They were amazing. This performance was not good for multiple reasons, but that doesn't mean that every single live performance is shit. I don't know if he was drunk, sick, or his voice was worn out from performing so much, but this just wasn't an accurate representation of the band's live performances. As for the people saying that every concert is awful, um... okay? Have you seen every single concert? I don't want to sound like a bitch, but really. You can't generalize that they suck live just because you have some problem with the band. I get that it's your opinion, but saying flat out that they suck live then claiming that it's not an opinion just a fact makes you seem extremely ignorant and uneducated. Also, the crowd really sucked. I'm not saying that they were trying to be awful, but it wasn't a good crowd as far as crowds go. This was the first time they had performed live in a while and they had just been tracking for their new album also so I think his voice was a bit tired, he hadn't quite adjusted to the breath control techniques it takes to perform like he does live (it takes me a bit to adjust my habits from recording to performing live) and they were having some technical issues, especially with some of the earlier bands, where vocals would get lost or dropped periodically throughout the set. I have seen them live since and Kellin sounds just as good, if not better, live than on their albums.

I've seen them live and they were great. Recorded live versions some times suck. Live recordings of all time low and fall out boy rarely sound good and ive seen them both live a lot. I think his mic was going out a few times too.
Ally & Ash ive seen them quite a few times live. he does sound like this live too. It's not just because it's recorded. Many bands sound great live because they overcompensate with loudness and people get caught up in it. Try wearing earplugs one day, it allows you to hear it so much better and you can tell which bands actually are terrible live.
