If they do indeed decide to make a magic update, I think one of the main things they should focus on would be making enchantments more horizontal than vertical. I want more enchantments to be like silk touch or fire aspect, in that they have unique uses and bonuses, but these are circumstantial and are less significant or may even be a hinderance depending on what you use them for. Stuff like sharpness, which is just a plain bonus with no drawback, should be scaled back imo, with the base weapons being strengthened to make up for the lack of these addition(fun fact: diamond swords used to deal 10 damage, but this was nerfed when enchantments were introduced)
I would also like to see them make it so that gold became more of a proper "enchantment" material. Right now it is more enchantable, sure, but the way this manifests is through unintuitive algorithms, and this enchantability only applies to the enchanting table, not the anvil, whose mechanics are in itself unintuitive too. I think a simple "enchantability cap", depending on the material, would work way better: each tier of gear can store a certain "amount" of enchantments, and if an anvil combination would surpass this then the combination can't be made.

    • @agentpaint
      @agentpaint 2 роки тому +24

Fun fact: Sharpness did already get scaled back in the 1.9 update, although it would be nice if it got scaled back even more if it mean other/new enchantments could take it’s place

    • @nickolasname5960
      @nickolasname5960 2 роки тому +57

@@agentpaint well, the issue isn't really that "sharpness stands in the way of getting more interesting enchantments", but that enchantments like sharpness aren't really a choice, but a no-brainer; the only circumstance where you wouldn't have sharpness on your sword is if you're primarily gonna be fighting undeads and want smite instead. The issue I see with this is that it makes enchantments a "next tier" in progression, rather than something which unlocks new possibilities in playstyle,.

The fact that the Illager Runes from MC Dungeons were added to the files in the 1.18 snapshots only supports the idea of a magic update for me. It really feels like a neo-Galactic Alphabet to me, and it might end up playing a visual role in some of the new systems.

I absolutely love the idea of a new writing system for Minecraft - we already have the "human" languages (possibly what Steve and Alex speak?), as well as the more magic-based languages, like the SGL (enchanting tables). I personally love the idea of a bunch of new languages like the pillager rune, maybe even a fleshing out of the villager hmm system? There's so much potential and I love it.

Magic update sounds like its much needed. The meta of kidnapping villagers to farm mending books is getting stale. I see Mending kind of almost killed enchanting. It now becomes a thing where unless you lose your stuff, once you get the perfect gear you never need to enchant again. Back in the day when you didn’t know what you were going to get from an enchantment table and you couldn’t trade for books enchanting was extremely tedious however did add for more interactions with the system. Something I'd personally love to see is total biome variance with everything. Everything from cows, to pigs, to zombies have unique visual variants. Cows in mountains may be fluffier looking than the generic plains cows, pigs in forest may look like wild hogs and even attack players, zombies get jungle variants that move faster over leaves but slower over solid ground, Skeletons get an aquatic variant that instead of shooting arrows drags the player toward them with a tendril of kelp, Drowned in Warm Ocean biomes are covered in kelp and coral growths. A mix of purely aesthetic changes, changes with slight gameplay differences (Husks), and stuff that's radically different from it's generic form. There'd be some exceptions, cats don't have much reason to have unique variants, Mooshrooms, Ocelots and other biome exclusive mobs have no business looking different outside their respective biomes, Endermen don't come from the overworld so wouldn't be subject to it.
It'd be a challenge to implement, but I think it'd give so much variety to MC's ultimate strength: it's exploration. Especially if there were gameplay changes to the mobs. Maybe wolves that spawn in Taiga biomes form bigger packs and attack cows instead of sheep. Polar Bears on Frozen Oceans could be made hostile, whereas Polar Bears in tundra biomes could be neutral. And so much more.

What came to mind when reading this is what if there was some sort of challenege realms that had a limited area with dungeons and the like in them. Once you beat the challenege you return to your normal world with the loot and the realm gets deleted so that a new challeneg with a new seed can spawn in.
I've noticed an issue with a lot of the dungeons, end cities etc is that they often become useless after you complete them. And then you have to travel out further so it makes it harder to find more. This new challenge realm portal would always directly take you to new unique dungeon like challenges

I'd probably say a farming update. The farming system in minecraft is very "set and forget" and while I think they shouldn't make the system stray too far away I think there is various things to do to make farming more fun. Benefits to making humane animal pens, more plants from different dimensions, talking and tending to plants(weeds and stuff; nothing to slowdown the growth just removing them to make them grow faster), different foods giving different short lived buffs, actual meal crafting like spices and food combinations, maybe even different types of fertilizers made from the composter block

Also I would like to have tomatoes in Minecraft. And what’s the final challenge between you and the end? A *silverfish spawner.* if silverfish were removed from the game, nobody would notice.
I don’t think it should be made super difficult, as this is still a casual focused game, but some kind of challenge besides punching the occasional zombie until you randomly wander into the portal room is needed.
Maybe the rooms could be revamped to be more unique? The library room is a great example of what they should be like. We need more unique room types!
Maybe chests can contain a couple eyes of ender to encourage more exploration? Not enough to completely fill the portal since that would make the nether optional, but still enough to warrant actually exploring past the portal room

Some will ask for magic while others will still question how come we don't have as basic animal as a deer in a forest. There's no way to please everyone, but the game has to move forward trying to remain as non-niche as possible which is why we see biome updates being the cornerstone of most updates, they add new blocks, new mobs, new enemies and some new mechanics. After all there’s no better way to add these other than through a new biome. And importantly that’s why we explore the world.

Little idea, maybe if you upgrade a villager to Master, you can do a "Commission" of some kind. Like, a librarian villager at Master level can be given emeralds in trade for a specific enchanted book, price based on how good the enchantment(s) is. Then they'll get to work on it, and the next day you'll either receive it, or a couple of it (also depending on how many emeralds you gave and how many of them you wanted). The old way is still there (placing the work station until it appears), but it'll be cheaper to commission them from a villager than from the old way since it required more effort to get to that stage, and also since you have to wait on it for a bit. And that can go for all villagers, like commissioning a stack of brick blocks from a stone mason, potions from a cleric, special arrows from a fletcher, etc etc. It's not a perfect idea by a long shot, but y'know, it sounded neat.

You mention "a very particular way", but you aren't using it. Always combine books before adding to a sword.
The cost is based on how often an item has gone through the anvil, so if you have 3 books and 1 sword, you'd do best to put one book on the sword, and one book on the other book, and then put those books on the enchanted sword. That way you keep the total cost to a minimum. Also always enchant items in a table first, since that doesn't count towards anvil cost either.

@@MonochromeChromosome I'd say elytra do have a use, but currently they're OP. Not because they shouldn't be, I think they are a very well designed item and have their place, but simply because all the other forms of transport are so _bad._ Which they have no right to be. IRL horses and trains are orders of magnitude faster than their Minecraft counterparts. Boats are hilariously basic - imagine if you could add engines or sails or make them larger. There are just so many improvements available that would make elytra obsolete without even having to change them.

When talking about magic, 3 mods come to my mind: Botania, Astral sorcery and Blood magic. Every single one of them feels like a game inside a game and I would LOVE if vanilla minecraft had its own version of it. Rewamped enchantment system, wands, magical spells, rituals could potencially change how we play the game. Also, the machanic of upgrading something, like we see with netherite, SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN. They could add many new materials that could be mined AND created with magic that could change items, give them benefits and drawbacks so neither is just flat out the best. Everyone could have their way to progress through the game. Simmilar system is in the Tinker's construct mod, where some tools mine faster, others have way longer durability or perform best in certain situations. Also, the fletching table. It asks for some use and such tool upgrade system would be perfectbto introduce it as a station to upgrade bows, arrows and crossbows.

Combining a few ideas i’ve seen in the comments, it would be cool to have a more general type of ‘raid’ in the game. Perhaps a block or some magic summoning process (but of course not overly complicated) that makes many more mobs spawn in with slightly more lethality. Perhaps this could be the only situation where general mobs like zombies and skeletons can actually break (and maybe place?) blocks down, and this way its only able to happen due to the player initiating it. People want to build defenses and bulky structures and this gives them a reason to but also keeping it be the players choice.
Maybe during this raid mobs also drop more xp, items, and have a higher chance of dropping their rare loot. And at the completion of the ‘ritual’ it could give a new or existing end game item. Perhaps part of this ritual involves wither skulls and this could be an alternative way to get a wither star? Or even it could drop an item where using it in your next ‘raid’ makes it harder? Maybe pooling together the drops of different end game boss fights will activate a Terarria like ‘hard mode’ with like a wither star, ‘raid’ drop, dragon egg, etc.

A big problem I have with Minecraft is that, in the late-game, I have no reason left to play. I play Minecraft for its survival gameplay. I love building pretty things, but I only do so to enhance my survival experience. Once I have enchanted netherite gear, elytra, and have beaten every boss, the only thing left to do is build. However, I have nothing left to build FOR. All enemies are a joke to fight and continuing to survive is just retreading content that offers no challenge. My new gear makes building a lot easier, but I have no reason to do it other than for the sake of itself. A big part of Minecraft survival is exploring for materials which is something that does help offer gameplay for the overpowered late-game player, but still doesn’t fix the problem. Why should I go out and collect these materials if what I’m building no longer serves me any use? I have no idea how to fix this without unsustainably stretching out progression. They can’t just keep adding new objectives because it doesn’t solve the problem- it only delays it. Anyone have ideas on how to create a gameplay loop that fixes this? Or is it a natural consequence that the game ends?

    • @ravysel1258

It feels like you play Minecraft rather for conquer then survival. Survival is unfortunately barely existing in Minecraft. I think your problem is more build-up in your preference - if you having fun only when you gaining more and defeating more, then you eventually end up having everything and there won't be any reason for you to do anything. I think there's no real fix for that, this approche is fundamentally broken. The only thing you can do is to make up some challanges for you. For example I like to play as a vegan sometimes. I also don't play with health regeneration anymore. But if your goal is to reach the end, then you will. And that will be also the end of your fun.

@@ravysel1258 You’re right! Another way I get fun out of the came is just being challenged. A lot of the time I have a good time not actually working towards anything and going through the loop of fighting monsters and building my base without upgrading my gear. I wish the normal monsters were hard enough to be engaging when I inevitably decide to progress. The answer is to just limit myself, but that means ignoring content. If there was a place to live where the everyday bad-guys didn’t get killed in two hits with maxed out equipment and I wasn’t virtually invincible I’d be very happy. The Nether comes close but doesn’t really cut it at a certain point. I’ve changed the behavior before to make stuff harder and that worked, but in a multiplayer setting its unfair to people who don’t play the game like me. It really is a problem inherent with my playstyle and not necessarily a fault of the game

I think what Minecraft Needs Most is:
    - Combat Update (completely revamp the combat systems of minecraft)
    - AI Update (improving intelligence of friendly and hostile mobs, improving villagers to actually carry out jobs, give quests to players and have guard roles to defend their town as well as making Hostile mobs way more interesting to fight - maybe make skeletons an actual army, not just bowmen, who attack in co-ordinated groups, with sword fighters rushing you, bowmen staying back and cavalry for some extra danger (make it actually feel like AI interact with each other)
    - Structure Update (add hundreds of new minor structures with variations as well as procedurally generated structures to the Minecraft world including sprawling dungeons, small houses, mineshafts, castles, pyramids, temples, shrines, roads, bridges, cities, docks, towers, etc all over the place to make exploration way more interesting)
    - End Update (Self explanitory)
I'd ideally like to see the minecraft world feel more lived in and independent of the player, as if it could have functioned before we arrived, with existing societies capable of self sustaining and survival, carrying out tasks and defending themselves, with occupied and ruined remnants of civilisation dotted everywhere

When I toss it out, I have to be careful not to pick it back up. Or when I'm mining for diamonds, I constantly have to toss out stacks of various rocks to get the actual ores/diamonds/ancient debris.
Would be nice to just blacklist certain items.

If in 1.20 they decide to do a magic update I would like them to change the enchantment system to something similar to the enchantment system of Minecraft dungeons. Change the progression of levels to require more xp for each level but also decrease how much more xp you need for the next level. Then with enchanting you invest as many of your level points to the enchantment to upgrade it. With this kind of system you could also make it so that you don't lose the level points but rather the progress you made towards the next level when you die.

I'd love to see a magic update
    It would have
some new magic based mobs (like like the illusioner, the enchanter from dungeons and an illager war mage that uses elemental attacks like lightning)
spell tomes, enchanted books that allow you to cast spells, they could be made at enchantment tables, found as structure loot, or dropped from said magic mobs (like the war mage dropping a lightning bolt tome.) And at least one in particular would be used in a crafting recipe.
Change experience to souls, it's vaguely implied that souls exp is some life force, and it's used in magic like how souls are used in minecraft dungeons.
And what i call "deep enchanted items", weapons/ tools wiþ enchantmentsbaked into them at crafting, you'd use an alchemy table (a new crafting block crafted wiþ 3 crying obsidion, 2 netherite ingots, 2 candles of any type, 1 enchantment table, and 1 Spell tome: Arcane knowledge)
How it would work is that you'd collect the ingredients for the item you want make (they could be as mundain as stone or copper, or as exotic as wither stars, echo shard or lightning in a bottle) them you'd get soul sand to be the fuel source (like lapis for enchanting, or blaze powder for brewing), then you'd you go þrough the process of forging the item, mixing the materials and magic together which would be more complex/hands on then crafting/ enchanting/ brewing and would consume exp. And when you're done you'll have a weapon, tool, or armor stronger than normal enchanted items, they'd never degrade, and the non consumable ones would consume exp to use their magic.
Basically bring some of minecraft dungeons magic system in normal minecraft, and allow player to use some of the magic we kow and or speculate to exist.

So instead of eating plain old steak 24/7 or chowing through entire amounts of bread everytime you lose hunger, you should be able to make a nice sandwich or something. Not via crafting table, but with a new counter item! Now food only giving hunger would be a little underused, people would just find one meta food and eat that all the time. Instead each meal should have a different use like stardew valley. For example : a dessert which gives speed buffs. Something like a burger that acts solely as a way to replenish hunger. A full course steak meal that gives defence and attack power etc.

I'd basically like an animal update. Basically just have Mojang go in and look at all the old animals in the game and give them a revamp.
    Things like:
・Give the pig something to do. I think make them tameable and give them a new ability like truffle hunting maybe.
・Import all the variant cow; chicken; and pig skins from MInecraft: Earth to liven things up a bit.
・Finally give wolves variant skins since people have been wanting them for so long.
・Add a wander mode to tamed cats and wolves so they're not just sitting in the one spot all the time.
・Do something so that tamed cats and wolves aren't as likely to die if you take them with you.
    ・The ability to pet dogs.
・Make it so that ocelots and wolves actually eat what they kill rather than having them look like they're just killing for the fun of it.
・Make mob-based transport better to go with the maybe eventual elytra balancing.
    ・・Tweak llama breeding
・・Add in the ability to remove chests from llamas and donkeys/mules
・・The ability to take horses across oceans (a larger boat? horse frost walker?)
・Take the personality feature from pandas and give it to tameable animals that players actually spend time with like wolves and cats
・Finally fix the bug where squids beach themselves.
・I doubt it will happen but give squids a new model (the current one looks like programmer art by someone who hasn't seen a squid)
I don't know that it's as flashy as an End update, but I think that there's plenty of content there if Mojang were to look into it; and there are probably a whole lot of features they could add in besides just sprucing up the old stuff.

Enchancements by Arathain may be a bit unbalanced, but really makes me want things like that to be in the game. Basically, it gets rid of durability, tiered enchantments, and straight up stat increases, and the enchantments are so cool that SHOVELS become viable in PVP, allowing you to hit the other player and break the block below them (putting a cooldown on the shovel ofc). Other things include a midair cloud jump type thing that can negate fall damage if timed well and fixes the elytra being too op, making late game movement much easier without having to use it. The enchantments are so creative and have information about them when hovered over on the enchantment table, promoting reading exact details, which is something I LOVE.
Another thing that would be cool is more cooldown related items, shields and ender pearls are so limiting for this feature that has a ton of potential, so much so that there isn’t a way to cooldown items by using commands to my knowledge.

Your thoughts about zombies & zombified piglins are intriguing. You mentioned that there was a distinction. After thinking about it, I realized: Zombified Piglins aren't zombies, but have the characteristics of a zombie. (i.e., "zombified.") Which means they are not classically undead, but instead beat-up versions of the healthier mobs. We heard something like this at Minecraft Live 2022. In Minecraft: Legends, Piglins decay gradually, but they don't die to become zombified.

You go, you get boxes, the final solution for items, and elytras, the best movement, and you are done unless you want a very rarely used colour palette of purple or cheese or are using an enderman based exp farm, which is generally inferior to zombie piglin farms due to the extra usability of gold in piglin trades.

Hello everyone this is Jeb from the Minecraft team. We have been expending the last years preparing the next update to Caves and Cliffs and this time we wanted to out do ourselves with even better content. After listening to the community and your feedback we have prepared a very anticipated update that many of you have been waiting for. That's right. We are updating the Birch Forest! We have reworked this biome to generate fallen birch trees that can reach up to 4 logs in length! You can also find a new type of flower we call "the yellow flower" and its yellowish properties allow to be mixed with the other yellow flowers, avoiding repetition in your yellow gardens. But that's just the begining. We have taken a gamble with this next feature that might break the resource economy and we will have to carefully monitor this in the snapshots before the final release. The content we are talking about is none other than an increment in the rabbit spawn rate within the reworked birch forest to a whapping 1.5x from the regular one. Thank you everyone for watching the Minecraft Live this year, and stay mining!
