I once knew a guy who only dated younger women with large eyes and "disney princess baby face". He was later caught with child porn on his computer... it all made sense.
It’s can be sussy sometimes. I’m 27 with a youthful appearance and at 19 I looked much younger. Was creeped out when a guy I was with called me his little girl and I stopped seeing him. But most guys treated me normally
Director Busby Berkeley once pushed Judy Garland to a nervous breakdown by constantly shouting at her to open her eyes more on camera - he didn't have anything to say about her performance, just how wide her eyes needed to be. After an hour or so of him shouting at her to open her eyes more she collapsed on the set.
Judy went through so much man. The abuse against her from all sides was just horrible. She was a strong lady man I hope she's resting easy and peacefully cause she very much earned it
I was surprised to see Marilyn Monroe on here. I suppose sometimes, she definitely widened her eyes for that innocent look, but most of the time (from my viewing), they're at least half closed, sometimes more, in a seductive manner...in images anyway. I haven't watched her in a lot of movies, and I wasn't analysing her eyes when watching the ones I did see. But I definitely think of her as an eyes half closed person. EDIT further into the video: Wait, does wide-eyed mean horizontal distance across the face? I thought it meant vertical distance of them open. I'm really not sure now. The Disney waist comparison makes it seem like width. I've never really noticed width but vertical height. I suppose they're related. If you go by horizontal distance, they could just be far apart and still small that they wouldn't have that innocent look though.
Big eyes basically. And no, even I don't think Marilyn's eyes were very big. Half these actresses don't have such big eyes, it's just all the eye makeup.
I at first thought the exact opposite of your assumption, and after having watched the video, I think the contention is a bit of both. I would guess casting agents who are looking for 'wide-eyed' actresses would also tend to look for those whose eyes are set far apart, as that is a naturally aesthetically pleasing feature in anybody.
To be fair to anime the large eyes come from.manga which took from American cartoons which used it to better get expression. The big eyes are largely used for that reason to day, it is easier to get emotional expression across drawing large eyes.
Maybe it’s because I don’t have them but I’ve always heard of and personally considered big eyes as beautiful. I’ve always wanted them so if you have them be glad!
Dear Wildcatste, be very proud of your features! My sister & I have big eyes and when we were children, kids used to bully us because of our eyes (we also have thick eyebrows), they used to tell us boy eyes, Frida Kahlo, alien face, etc.
Big eyes ane wide eyes are two different things. They shouldn't be compared. Big eyes are desirable and make you look innocent whether they are close or wide eyed. For example Amanda Seyfried doesn't have that wide eyed features but her eyes are gorgeous because they are big. Wide eyes can be big ( like Anya Taylor Joy) or small ( like Halle Bayley). But personally i don't like wide eyes. They look too unnatural. The fact that Anya Taylor Joy and Jenna Ortega are considered pretty is because their eyes are really big, not because they are wide eyed.
You're thinking of wide-set eyes, not "wide eyes". In this video, by "wide eye" they are referring to big eyes, because they mean "wide" as in the width (top to bottom) of each eye
@@sugarkats21 They should have clearified that, because I didn't understand why Mia Goth was referenced so much, when her eyes are so narrow set. They should have just said "big eyes" not wide.

What I noticed thus far is that there's a higher ratio skews towards eyes that one can see the whites of the eye around the iris. All the way way around, or at least on the bottom, even when the person isn't 'widening their eyes deliberately as if in shock.' . Some eyes, like my own, are smaller and so you can't see the whites underneath my iris, and only see such at the top when I deliberately and noticeably widen my eyes. . The difference seems to be a factor in whether or not someone looks "wide-eyed" or not, regardless of eye size. Also, whether or not their eyes are deep-set or hooded, as that can result in drooping eyelids that hide eyes that might've otherwise looked bigger and more open (aka wide-eyed).
I feel like true Wide eye looks didn't peak until in the 2010s and beyond. I remember growing up in the 90s where the preferred look was striking cat eyes like Linda Evangelista, Milla Jovovich, Michelle Pfieffer. Now the look is doe eyes with a small round face. Whereas before if there was doe eyes, the entertainer had an oval egg shaped face
I once used to be so eager to use makeup to make my natural seemingly small droopy eyes look bigger and making me appear more approachable and adorable, but since this society is so into youth=beauty to a concerning degree to the point it oftetimes even affects actual children and/or any under-aged people because imo they shouldn't be concerned with being "desirable" while still growing and discovering more important aspects of their self-identity, I'm glad I was never and never will be so into makeup.
Halle Bailey is THE hottest wide eyed girl right now. Yet she's excluded from this video. Not to mention Diana Ross and her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross.
SO TRUE THO! i really believe rachel could pull being such a snake for 8 months off because her face doesnt seem like she is capable of such deceit. her shaky voice also contributes to that
I agree that there's a problem with youthfulness being associated with sexuality but accusing Bratz of making fashion to be a way to get sexual attention is a huge stretch and actually insulting to people with traditionally feminine hobbies, it's completely misogynistic to make a claim that feminine interests are to seek male attention, I thought you'd know better..
I have relatively large blue eyes and chubby cheeks and the amount of times guys call me cute is just plain annoying. I hate being infantilised, though I did also use that to negotiate my way through crowded pubs/clubs. Since I could just smile and push my way through, making eye contact and they’d all happily move. So I guess it comes in handy and I don’t mind being underestimated 😅
english is a foreign language to me, does wide eyed mean a. someone with large/big eyes, or b. someone with eyes that are spaced wide apart or c. both??
7:55 A disarming mechanism? Facial features are, well, features. Not behavioural adaptations used for good or ill. Short of surgery, one has no control over having them, and can't choose to not/have any given feature, like big eyes, no matter how useful it would be. Not even in order to break stereotypes. What a bizzare thing to say.
Pretty much everything in Hollywood a trope. There was a reason that Hollywood is often referred to as "The Dream Factory", because people for the most part stopped going to the movies to see "real life" a long time ago. The number of actresses given as examples of this particular trope was so across the board, a list of actresses in Hollywood that didn't fit this trope would have a lot more useful, because some of the women you showed appeared to have perfectly normal eyes. Notwithstanding that the majority of successful actresses already tend to have won the genetic lottery in the first place.
It's annoying actually to grow up with people assuming that I would "get away with more" or be more "naive" or "innocent" just because I have big eyes. Society puts crap on people with no real consideration for the reality of the person's experience and humanity. -_-
Hey de_cre_vi, I get your feelings. Since I was I child, I've been told "living doll", "Bratz", Arabic woman (I'm not) by adults & kids (even as an adult, the harrasment to see my eyes is quite annoying!) But I promise you that you will find that person who will see you as a human and will consider your feelings. Be proud of your features as well as your personality, I bet you are a gorgeous person inside & outside! In bocca al lupo (Good luck in Italian.) Lots of hugs.
I mean it makes sense. Eyes are expressive, so the you can see on film the more expressive an actor/actress can get. Though the list thing is weird. Really, really weird.
To this day I am still told I look just like Winona Ryder. Also been told I look like a cartoon. I never knew how to take that but I know it’s because of my very large widest eyes and baby face. My eyes are my favorite feature. However people guess me way younger than my age (30) which is slightly creepy when they are disappointed that I’m not 22…
As a wide-eyed gal, I've had positive and negative experiences. An old boss said I had "Bambi eyes" as an insult, implying I was a bit thick. A friend of mine called me "frog eyes" as a kid which was an actual joke, I wasn't offended. Many people have at least one prominent feature. The trick is to make the best of it!

What I noticed thus far is that there's a higher ratio skews towards eyes that one can see the whites of the eye around the iris. All the way way around, or at least on the bottom, even when the person isn't 'widening their eyes deliberately as if in shock.'
.
Can you do sultry bedroom eyes next?
I once used to be so eager to use makeup to make my natural seemingly small droopy eyes look bigger and making me appear more approachable and adorable, but since this society is so into youth=beauty to a concerning degree to the point it oftetimes even affects actual children and/or any under-aged people because imo they shouldn't be concerned with being "desirable" while still growing and discovering more important aspects of their self-identity, I'm glad I was never and never will be so into makeup.
I was expecting they would mention Ella Purnell
Halle Bailey is THE hottest wide eyed girl right now. Yet she's excluded from this video. Not to mention Diana Ross and her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross.
3:52 that’s hilarious like come on 🤣
Happy Pride Month! 🌈
Thank you for this video essay! Great job 👏🏽
“Bambi eyed B-h”… word to Lala Kent 😅
SO TRUE THO! i really believe rachel could pull being such a snake for 8 months off because her face doesnt seem like she is capable of such deceit. her shaky voice also contributes to that
@@marykay7878 exactly! It truly adds to how sinister she actually is beneath it all
LMAO THATS MY NEW CATCHPHRASE
I agree that there's a problem with youthfulness being associated with sexuality but accusing Bratz of making fashion to be a way to get sexual attention is a huge stretch and actually insulting to people with traditionally feminine hobbies, it's completely misogynistic to make a claim that feminine interests are to seek male attention, I thought you'd know better..
I was waiting for Brittany Murphy to appear the whole video but she didn't
I have relatively large blue eyes and chubby cheeks and the amount of times guys call me cute is just plain annoying. I hate being infantilised, though I did also use that to negotiate my way through crowded pubs/clubs. Since I could just smile and push my way through, making eye contact and they’d all happily move. So I guess it comes in handy and I don’t mind being underestimated 😅
english is a foreign language to me, does wide eyed mean a. someone with large/big eyes, or b. someone with eyes that are spaced wide apart or c. both??
wide eyes means large.
Usually it means they’re open wide
Option A. Someone with big eyes. Wide is synonym to large.
@@greicecontadoytb7885 thank you guys!
Just huge and cute. Someone with doe eyes _could_ have spaced eyes as well though.
I'd also count Chloe bailey on the list
And Halle too
Chyna anne mclaine
My math teacher told me that people get put off by how intense my eye movements are
Wide doe eyes are preferred in india since well forever because most indian girls have such eyes
How Halle Bailey is not in this video @The Take ?????
Hopefully one day actual adult women without baby features will become accepted. 😳
They‘re called sexy
Angelina Jolie
Rihanna
Lucy Liu
Etc.
I came here couse I have large eyes and felt that video would give me confidence. My girl talked about pedofilia and said that eyes are scary LMAO
When you google wide-eyes Halle Bailey literally comes up, she should be on this list!
Why is the fact that I now know disney princesses are drawn like babies creepy yet it looks weird if they were drawn with normal sized eyes?
Probably because you're used to it
I feel Frodo should be in here somewhere
I finally feel represented
Honestly Ergo Proxy's protagonist doesn't have such large eyes for an anime character 3:48
What about small eyes 💀💔
I have dreamed of having big eyes my whole life. Mine are so small
There's an easy surgery for that.
Be proud of yourself! The way you were born is perfect for the right person. 💕
There is nothing wrong with Bratz dolls
And lol/omg dolls 😂
Sorry but Sydnea Sweeney does not have big eyes, her eyes are languid and droopy. Where are Winona Ryder and Katie Holmes??
I luv Winona Ryder.
Yeah Sydney has droopy eyes!
Yes same for Blake lively . Maybe they are just lovable blonde trope
Katie Holmes doesn't have big eyes and they mentioned Lydia from Beetlejuice and the clips they showed Sydney does have big eyes or wide eyes
@@blackguyofthesouth2161 katie holmes character in Dawson's Creek is described and referred to several times as having 'doe eyes' in the series. Also, Katie Holmes DOES have big gorgeous eyes - are you blind? (Pun intended).
Ok, they've mentioned Lydia, but it is known that Winona's make up was done in a way to make her eyes even bigger. Hello! It is a Tim Burton's movie, so any female character is gonna have big eyes anyway. Just mention the actress (Winona), who is known for her naturally big eyes.
Regarding Sydney... yeah, try again big boy 😂😂😂😂
hm, big pupils explains why everyone callend me "bambi" when i was doing cocaine
I love wide eye girls!
Thanks
So many Ethiopian women have the most gorgeous large dark doe eyes.
My ex husband was creeped out by my eyes. He ended up accusing me of reading minds and being a witch 😂 most ppl assume i am 20 years younger than i am... i guess its my eyes cuz its not my grey hair 😂
as for me it's not the big eyes of the "baby schema (Kindchenschema)"more the "Betty Davis eyes" of her later movies.
i haven't photoshopped the eyes of Amanda Seyfried, Emma Stone and Anna Taylor Joy, but I think their eyes ( actually the center of the iris) seem to be nearer of further apart than they would be in a woman of conventional beauty.
Alaxendra daddario’s eyes ❤❤❤
What about Rachel Zegler, Simone Ashley and Halle Bailey?
Wierd because large eyes are a beauty standard in my country. However we mean large eyes, not larhe pupils.
There's a name for this: neoteny
Well, I have no idea now I feel more attractive 😂😂😂
It's me guys!!!
If you haven't already, can you PLEASE do a video of the Black Best Friend "Phenom" and how gratuitous, counterproductive, and harmful it is, even when done in "Black" movies?
BBF type in White media: Rochelle in "The Craft" (SO disturbing!)
BBF type in Black media: various characters in a Tyler Perry or Kenya Barris production
I can shape-shift my eyes to doe eyes to siren eyes
Lucy Hale is the perfect example
i have big eyes but fortunately due to my bad eye sight i wear glasses(around -7,5) that makes my eyes look more "normal size"
Oh no i'm being lured, what do i do!, WHAT DO I DOOOO!!!
The wide eyed girl example: Gwyndolin Thistle-hop, who's actually Binx.
Its just me and my big ass brown eyes
I find Mila Kunis beautiful with those eyes of hers....lol. Finally I don't feel so weird anymore 😄😄
What abt Eddie Sedgwick?
Thank God I've never needed to say "neotenous" aloud. I wasn't even close.
I mostly like squint eyes that look cuter when they smile but kinda prefer round eyes on darker women... indian eyes are so pretty (not talking about bollywood stars)
Have you done the lovable blonde trope ?
Emma Stone has beautiful big green eyes. They are enviable. Lupita Nyongo is so cute
Calling a beauty preference a "trope" is silly.
