You answered so many of our questions about DVC. We have been thinking about DVC for a long time (we go once a year, sometimes twice!) And, while it feels like DVC might not be in the cards, I am now intrigued about the idea of renting someone else’s points to try it out. I think it's REALLY smart to try renting points to see how you like it. Some people prefer to rent points rather than becoming DVC members because it still offers some of the savings, but without any of the commitment. I also wanted to say "Hello!" as a colleague! Great job explaining all the parts of DVC. We have been going yearly since 1999. Big scary was whether your Kids would outgrow Disney Vacations.
I can gladly say we have 27 and 29-year-old that do not like when Mom and Dad go without them.

great video! I get to go to DVC regularly because my partner owns many contracts. No kids. etc. It is luxurious and we have. it "easy" in that regard. I am not in a career that would provide me the means of purchasing DVC....he is ......with that said......If you are a family thinking of purchasing, it can be incredibly expensive, doesn't include park tickets or annual passes, plane fares (you mentioned all this too) dining (this is a big one, and very expensive). and any other incidentals.....this is for people into consistency, and routine vacations ---with a quality factor that is on a high level that can be relied on. You must be able to PLAN WAY IN ADVANCE and stick to it-- Upper middle class entry level situation in terms of income. ( not even sure what that would be these days!!). Good news as you mentioned is that if you get in over your head, there seems to be enough demand for resale. ( at the moment,,,but we are slipping into recession).
You make some really good points. How lucky that you're able to access DVC via your partner! I generally advise not to spend more on DVC than you could afford to lose. I understand where you're coming from about this not being an investment, mainly because we plan to use every year of our contract until it runs out, but... seeing how much sale prices have skyrocketed since we purchased just two years ago... I wish I'd bought a second contract then just so I could sell it today! I'd definitely have gotten my money back and then some!
Yeah, I think a lot of people will be able to sell it for more than they paid but I don't think it should be be bought with the expectation of making money off of it. I agree. I wish I had bought more contracts earlier as well. Thanks for watching.
Great video! Very helpful for 1st time buyers. Which my family and I are thinking ( running the numbers) but my question is. For 1st time buyers would you buy small contract like 100 to 150 points 1st then get additional if need them? What is your insight? Thank you :)
Hmm... that's tough to answer because a common complaint among DVC members is that they didn't buy ENOUGH points initially. On the other hand, we needed to start small to feel comfortable with our purchase. It also depends on whether you're thinking of buying direct or resale. It's quite easy to buy direct, then add another smaller add-on contract via direct purchase from Disney in the future. With resale, you're locked into whatever contracts are available, so you don't have quite as much flexibility (but of course you same money). Another option is to buy a resale contract first, then add on some more direct points if you find that you need more.

Wondering about the annual pass. At what point does it become the better option? We purchased one pre covid and went 3 times in one year, but being from Michigan that was not sustainable from a financial view point. Considering purchased a single pass for one of us for the perks, but wondering how often your family visits?
I'm glad you asked about that. Currently new annual pass sales are suspended. We were lucky to already have APs, so we have continued to renew. But assuming that it returns in the future, we get value out of it by taking longer trips. Because we have a long flight to DW, we travel there either once or twice a year but instead of taking a 3-5 day trip, as many do... we take longer trips - at least 7 nights each time. We typically end up spending upwards of 14 days in the parks each year this way. It helps make things more efficient in terms of airfare for us and the AP makes it all worthwhile. As you suggested, having one AP for the group is also a good strategy to get discounts as well. You could also add memory maker (or whatever they call it now) to that AP so everyone could use it. All this is of course dependent upon AP sales opening up once again. Best wishes and thanks for watching!

A DVC contract seems more like a lease rather than having ownership in anything. We own a timeshare in Surfside Beach, SC that we can eventually give to our son and he can do the same, etc...
Yeah, I suppose that's one way of thinking of it. We've seen the downside of having property handed down from one generation to another and it can sometimes create a lot of drama and confusion the longer the property remains in the family as there are more and more descendants with rights to it. DVC, with it's end date, is a good fit for us, but it sounds like you found something else that works well for you. That's great! Thanks for watching!

Well, I can't argue with that. We have definitely make lots of connections because we're DVC members. I just hear people say "How do I join Disney Vacation Club?" and I tell them "Well, I hate to break it to you, but you're going to have to PAY". I too have a magnet on my car, but DVC members are rare where I live, so it doesn't usually start many conversations here. Thanks for watching!

Hello there! What a great question...hmm... I think it would have to be the entire day that my husband and I spent at Disneyland Paris. It was the day that I realized my husband was willing to indulge my Disney craziness! We had SO MUCH FUN that day, running from ride to ride, having amazing food and just feeling like kids! And the rest is history! 😊
