A scripted, structured essay video with a main focus vs a random person sitting in the corner like a mindless zombie with nothing to add, bringing absolutely zero substance and stating the obvious... Yeah. They're the same aren't they
I rlly hope she quit 1 she doesn't know that REAL people make those videos 2 she teaches kids that its ok to mock religions, fat shame, hate on people for doing what they love.
I used to watch Sniperwolf religiously, now I’m also glad I’m over that, she’s only after he money at the end of the day :( Edit: Holy sh- Wow, that's a lot of likes, uhhh, thanks-!
SSSniperwolf has done so many worse things, she still has major mean girl energy. xQc mocking Ethan’s Tourette’s to his face when H3 called him out was just disgusting.
I love reaction videos, but only when they give commentary, share their thoughts about what they watch, and aren't forcing a reaction. It's great rewatching movies or shows with people who haven't seen them.
Exactly! I love AJ Universes method of reaction video, where it's just the audio and him watching his monitor. You can't see the show at all but you can hear it which if you've already seen what he's watching makes waiting for his reaction all the better
i like the ones that add insight or comedy, like that one guy who zooms in real close saying "come here let me tell you something" before either saying the most unhinged shit ever or giving suprisingly good life insight and advice
I don't think video essays are reaction content. I'm not seeing your initial reactions to content. You're adding real input to the things you're talking about. You give informed opinions on things, and you're funny as hell
Classic narcissist behavior. Create illusions of grandeur for show and under perform and whine when "plans" don't go their way, blaming their shortcomings on everyone and everything else.
XQC supposedly has a track record of being late/not showing up or calling in last minute. (Hosted a game show with Ludwig. He mentioned that about XQC.) Not surprised he showed up with excuses to losing a terrible debate if the above is truly the case.
One minor correction, only because it makes the situation far more humorous… Ethan didn’t challenge or ask xQc to debate, it was xQc who initiated that whole thing. xQc was the one who dm’ed Ethan something like “debate me old man” as a response to a negative tweet from Ethan about what he does being theft and Ethan obliged. Sorry to be doing an “um, actually…” but the fact that xQc chose that path is hilarious!
I'd also like to point out that Jacksfilms has absolutely made videos calling out male reaction channels before. Multiple times. Sssniperwolf couldn't even be bothered to type in "Jacksfilms reaction" right here on UA-cam
Fr tho, like, she just woke up and was like “damn, Jackfilms made a bunch of very true and understandable hate videos on me, let me use my female rights to make him sound sexist for no reason”
I don't think you're a react channel, 'cause reacting should be happening live and unfiltered. You're a *review* channel, and a beautifully composed one.
Yeah reaction vids are more like waiting for Maria Sharapova to announce her retirement and she drops the doping admission live kind of videos. The Depp/Heard trial live reactions count top.
I agree! I enjoy Commentators like you much more than group podcasts because it feels like you aren’t in the conversation with group podcasts. You’re just a distanced audience, while here it’s as if you are listening to someone’s very insightful and well thought of logical commentary! And telling it directly to you. Which I think you do marvelously.
Creators like funkyfrogbait , Danny Gonzalez, and drew gooden would be commentary UA-camrs because they actually make transformative content and don’t just steal
Yeah, exactly. Drew made a video a while back where he figured out how to be the best "reaction channel". He said that it used to be something he did which I don't really agree with but I get the feeling he isn't super into that kind of content these days after that video. That was supposed to be sarcasm. It's incredibly obvious he isn't a fan. It's a very funny video. If you haven't seen it I'd recommend. ua-cam.com/video/dAPMoJf-wR0/v-deo.html
sssniperwolf: nobody is criticizing the male reacts. this is misogyny! everyone who already criticized Hasan until he got better and xqc before moving the sniperwolf: lol K
I was in a sssniperwolf video, in a cringe comp. She made fun of me and said mean shit, also didn't even post my full video, just took a screenshot of it that was posted on Instagram that blew up. My tiktok was satire and my account was satire, (everyone knew this) Also in the Instagram comments I was being sexualized and etc and I was only 14 at the time. I didn't realize at the time that she just steals content for views, but now that you've pointed it out, it makes sense. Sorry that this comment was sort of nonsense
My friend, in a joking and serious sense, your story could change an entire life if you told this to the right person. Why? Cuz in 2-4 years from now(or maybe earlier), this story could literally be one of the main highlights of getting heat on sniper wolf.
SSSniperwolf has a history of doing all sorts of messed up things that spans even back to the 2010's when her career first started. She's done things like ignoring a dying fan who had cancer, being racist and transphobic, making effortless videos, the GirlGoneGamer situation, etc. I don't even know why she got popular in the first place considering all of the negative things that she's done over the years!
I know it’s not as bad, but has also gone out of her way to hate on people with a specific lifestyle such as a Therian. The video she reacted to with the Therians had a meaningful message to it as well and she called it “cringe”. She’s hated on Therians many different times, and it hurts that she would call a specific lifestyle “cringe” and “weird”. I’m not a Therian myself but it’s just in the end entirely rude and it’s growing a possible generation of people that’ll grow up to hate on people for having a specific lifestyle, such as Therians and Otherkin and stuff.
sssniperwolf is living proof that pretty privilege exists, like you cannot tell me that she didn't get as popular as she did because she's a pretty "gamer girl"
I love interesting reaction content, where something is added. Like those videos where industry professionals or long-time hobbyists react to five minute crafts videos and stuff like that. They actually add something to the original content, instead of just taking it and slapping their face on top.
I got really obsessed with Nimona when it first came out and watched a BUNCH of reactions to it because I love seeing other people react to things I love. And there was just a range of quality--some of it was just dumb jokey commentary, but there were also really excellent reactors who paused the video to talk about the themes, the animation, make guesses about what was going to happen next, giving their take on characters, referencing the source material (Nimona was a webcomic and graphic novel before it was a movie), and taking a moment to address really difficult topics and even share their own experiences. THAT is what reaction content should be--more of a commentary, thoughtful and expanding on the material, delving into it in ways that make you think about the work differently. I found a handful of content creators who add to the watching experience (after you've seen the show or movie, of course), that I think I'll come back to once I finish certain series.
Agreed! Another reaction channel I really love is Semblance of Sanity. The actual "reaction" usually only takes up about 10 minutes of the video and afterwards they will discuss the themes or things that happened / theories they have moving forward for the rest of the episode. Usually ranging anywhere from 20 to 50 minutes. Hearing them share their opinions about the episode they just watched is so much more interesting than just a reactor going "ooh" "ah" could ever be
yeah! when i used to watch sssniperwolf (don't anymore cuz i heard abt the stuff she did😀) i was confused when people said she didn't add anything cuz she definitely did LMAO. people who just sit there and go "🤯" don't add anything to the content you're literally just watching a video
I like watching Luxeria and Roly reacting to the 00s shows of my youth lol, they often pause them and provide a lot of commentary/jokes. I'm someone who probably gets more joy out of seeing people's reactions to things than interacting with them myself, mum says when we watch tv together it's like I'm watching tennis cos I watch the tv, then her, then the tv again etc.
I wouldn’t really call you a reaction youtuber. You actually have something to say. You don’t just randomly pick a video you’ve never seen before to watch, just to have content. You write scripts, do research about the topics talked about and therefore every single one of your videos has value. There are reaction youtubers whose content i still find interesting, because they watch videos about topics they genuinely show interest in, but even then, they could pick a video they don’t have much to say about. It’s still a video at the end but there’s not much added to the original. That wouldn’t happen to you because if you’ve got nothing to say, there would simply be no video.
Yeah realistically I come to this channel for video essays and commentary, rather than “reaction videos”. I avoid reaction videos like the plague because I find them to be so vapid and pointless. This? This channel makes me think.
personally i call the creators who make content like this “commentary youtubers” instead of “reaction youtubers”, because they do react to things but give actual commentary, insight and spread information, rather than just watching a video and saying a stupid joke or smth
my friend was one of the people in the *try not to cringe* videos that SSSniperwolf did. she said a lot of bad things about him (it was just a video of him with a mask) and people started stalking his socials and even sending him death threats. he had to quit his account and start over because one bigoted reaction youtuber talked shit about him.
The prosecutor vs defense was rlly creative because you show how both sides can argue against the claim. It helps me truly understand how each side sees the content creators
yeah, omg i love it when people do similar stuff, representing the side they dont like in an actually good way, and not framing that side as stupid, making actually thought through arguments from the other side, i find it so interesting every time
yeah, the difference is whether or not you have anything relevant to say. (also doing basic things like crediting the original video is just whether or not you're doing it ethically usually commentary channels are much better about this)
These kind of comments are on a lot of certain UA-cam videos. like Dan and riya’s videos, their comment section is FLOODED with comments like “can we all just appreciate all the hard work and effort Dan and riya put in their videos?” Every time I watch their videos I have to literally stop myself from looking through the comments (cuz that’s something I normally do when I watch UA-cam) cuz I know it will be full of the exact same comments
it’s so obvious that you’re genuine when saying you’re trying to improve and grow when making content, because in my opinion, this is one of your most well done videos yet. i mean the debate was not only a cool idea, but it also allowed you to explore two different perspectives, which was really interesting to watch, and coupled with your humour it’s straight gold. ik you probably won’t see this comment, but i have to say thanks for all the effort you put in for your viewers, because it really shines through!
I only just discovered their channel, (btw what pronouns do they use?) and I love their humor and debating style, and choice of words. It makes the news of controversies like this one much more palatable, (that's from you funkyfrog) and interesting, and most of the videos is them talking, aka. Indipendent content, so they're already a level higher than any other reactors.
Making that debate in a way where one side isn't an idiot and making weak, unseen arguments just because you disagree with that side is extremely impressive and I can imagine very difficult. I was so surprised and impressed when I got to that part, major props to FFB.
There are two types of content reaktions: 1) People who have no drive to make content themselves and just sit there watching other people's content and once in a while say a word or two. 2) People who know their audience likes seeing their reaction to things or hear their thoughts about stuff and hence throw in their two cents to every clip and possibly even make funny edits. And only one of those two is a leech that's resting on their laurels.
No Both if them are leeches You don't understand how reaction content impacts people if you say otherwise The fact that you add something doesn't mean the original value is still there and thus there's no reason to go actually watch or even check the original vid And much more garbage that's way too much to cover in text
@@bobule0069 No, not really. As long as the content is transformative and adds a substantial amount of new content to what is being watched, then it falls under fair use and does not fall under the garbage category XQC and Sniperwolf dominate currently. And most people reacting to long content make it so people DO go and watch the original by leaving many parts out that are simply not yielding a big reaction from them, they mention the creator and send people over to show them support, etc.. Not all reaction content is the same, it all needs to be judged case by case. And not all content that is being watched is impacted in a negative way, mind you.
@@bobule0069 Also, you seem to asume I think reaction content is perfectly fine to do as a main focus, which I never stated. The content I am talking about is the type of series Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, PewDiePie and so many others do: once in a while and crediting sources clearly. Reaction content is not immediately a terrible thing to do, as long as people put in effort and give credit where credit is due and do not focus on only making that type of lazy content, then things are perfectly fine. I know full well reaction content isn't gonna make a profit for the original clips per se, but just as is the case with games that people see someone play, people will also find new content creators to watch. You cannot say the genre needs to be purged simply because it doesn't yield extreme profit to all parties and hence is evil. If that's your logic, we'd need to ban Let's Plays and product tests among many other things too. EDIT: Even educational content that is probably THE most important in the reaction genre. /EDIT All in all, it depends on a case by case judgement. You cannot and should not judge them all in a generalized way. We would easily have the option of people posting disclaimers for their content to NOT be used for reaction content tho. Because not everybody is bothered by normal, transformative content like what you see in Jacksepticeye's Meme Time series. Some people even AIM to be noticed by their favourite creators. The only problem in reaction content is the leeches like XQC and Sniperwolf, who virtually put in NO effort, NO transformative aspects and still think their content is perfectly fine.
Gotta say the entire trial section was so well done. The fact you played both sides exactly how it would be argued with giving credit to both sides of the argument, it’s obvious how much work went into planning that portion.
The worst thing is that youtube doesn't care what the reaction is, it can pass the algorithm, but if you want to upload some content it *must* be reaction content. I saw something once where somebody wasn't aloud to upload their video because youtube thought that *historical footage* was copywrite liable, even though it was completely free to use, so in order to upload their video essay they had to add a face cam. They decided to just use the face cam to eat humas and apparently that was enough for youtube.
I CANNOT even believe you called yourself a reaction channel. I’m offended on your behalf!!!! You are most definitely a commentary channel that transforms content! I love listening to your witty remarks and perspectives that I hadn’t thought about. The fact that you are trying to be better just proves you are soo much better than these people!!
I entirely agree with you…Except for viewing being a reaction channel as offensive! Channels like SSSniperwolf really give this area of content a bad name! I watch a couple reaction channels that react to movies and tv shows and genuinely provide fun, funny, and/or interesting commentary while using limited amounts of the original footage! They also often have lengthy conversations about the shows\ movies after reacting. I’m watching a couple channels who are currently watching a very popular anime at the same time. Both channels use limited clips from the original and have very different conversations and reactions to the show. Watching either reaction without having watched the original content would be incomprehensible! Just trying to put the word out that not all reaction channels are content stealing garbage monsters even though many of the biggest channels in this area are!
@@lwitte8857yeah!! if you look past the content creators with millions of views and followers, you can find reactionary channels that are actually interesting and insightful to watch. its actually a conversation and pointing out stuff and going into it, its way nicer than the lazy and lame content stealing
@@lwitte8857I do agree with this. I watch so many reaction channels non-stop, but only those that react to animated tv-shows or movies , and only specific ones. I definitely noticed a trend with famous reactors though, since I used to really like a girl who had some nice theories and commentary to say while she recorded Steven universe reactions, but that got her so popular that when she reacted to the owl house, her reactions boiled down to “omg” and “wow” in the same EXACT way that Sssniperwolf does it. It was actually insane to see her put less and less effort in, and her previously slightly obnoxious way of speaking morthed completely into “BRO IS RUNNING RN THATS INSANE” type of commentary, and her previously minimum 10 minutes of commentary at the end basically just became “fun episode, love that one scene. NOW SUB!” It sucks to see :’))
I don't know if you'll see this, but Sssniperwolf is now stalking Jacksfilms, and publicly recorded his home on her instagram. He just put out a video about it, and how he and his wife are terrified to be in their own homes now. This has now gone a serious step above content theft and is now her using her fame to threaten her critics into silence. UA-cam is still refusing to look into it as well.
I honestly think there's a fine line between well made and not brain rotting content reaction. Simplicity is one example. Your thoughts and points on internet culture and content dive throughs are actually more enlightening than a streamer with a uwu aesthetic saying "Wowwieee!" To a tiktok. I'm not saying this as an mock, but I myself dislike just content. I'm not saying complexity makes one intellectual individual but I can see a diversion on people who enjoy SSSniperWolf kind of reaction content and UA-cam video essay.
If at least their reactions were naturally expressive or had interesting remarks to make... Ive been told Id make a good reaction creator because I'm very over the top, but I like to make my own stuff, so..
agreed. I watch some twitch streamers who talk about politics and they'll play a youtube video or news segment relating to politics, pause the video, and go on a side tangent, sometimes longer than the videos themselves, plus the credit the person and share links in chat. thats one thing. talking over the video to say "huh" or "cool!" and no links and hiding the watermark is just theft.
Ethan is online/peethan is a great example of reaction streaming, that is actually under fair use/what fair use should be. Instead of sssniperwolf saying two things a video and xQc just leaving a stream for 10 minutes, he says things oftenly, makes jokes, and his videos are always longer than the original by quite a bit. Spilling the milk is also a good example.
IM SO GLAD YOU MENTIONED SPILLING THE MILK LOL they're my favorite reaction channel, they add so much to the original show episodes/movies they watch, and they usually clip it up into basically just sections of episodes.
i would add "semblance of sanity" to this. they basically only do mainstream media but their videos always have minimum half an hour of discussion after whatever episode they watch
I think a huge thing that I love about reaction content like you is the skits you have with your reactions it’s not just video after video. And you make meaning full introspection. (Also) That debate was amazing and each side had good points it was very well done.
I'd argue you that you're more like an internet version of an ideal TV news reporter. You give information about things going on and always bring a good point to the table, making it something unique. I'd for sure call your content transformative!
Right? And for me the best part is that I can get informed about internet drama without feeling the drama. Other channels used to pull up twitter thread after twitter thread and just reads it back while I get enraged. But here I get a nice and cohesive summary with conclusion, to what I go like "Hmm, yes, yes. What a professional take." *sips tea with hold-out pinky*
thats my personal main "use" of react content - its like watching a news story about shitty people instead of giving them impressions and ad revenue by seeing their content first hand. i like the original content being present bc it gives me a good sense of what is being talked about before hearing the interpretation/commentary.
What I love about your channel is you do go the extra mile to properly research the topics you are discussing. You never post a video with an exaggerated reaction just to get money. Your videos are always insightful and interesting on their own. Honestly love hearing your reactions more than the tik tok videos most of the time, because your stuff is intelligent, not mind numbing videos like a lot of what you cover. Keep up the good work!
I think you are the definition of a commentary youtuber, bringing value to every clip you react by expressing your opinion on it and a bunch other stuff. Definitely not a reaction youtuber with nothing to add to a video. I love your work.
7:58 I just realized that you said the first two S's in SSSniperWolf's username and now I can't stop laughing. You put a great amount of care and effort to your videos even if it is something so simple as that. Your efforts don't go unnoticed, so keep it up!
My personal opinion is that commentary videos are so much better than reaction because unlike reaction, commentary usually (I cannot stress enough how much I mean this usually obviously it’s not gonna happen all the time) provide additional information to the content you’re watching and are sometimes much more liable than other sources. They also typically credit the creators whether it be them critiquing or informing people about the content. Sometimes it can be hard to find good informative commentary because it can be incredibly biased or misleading but when it’s done right I think it makes for great content. That’s just my opinion though.
as someone who's been a fan of jacksfilms for almost 10 years now, I'm so proud that something he's doing is FINALLY getting a good amount of traction after so long of not a lot of viewers and such. I've been watching his streams for a long time (as evidenced if you see me in chat I have 41 months subbed as of rn), and to see this content he makes get him to upwards of SIX THOUSAND CONCURRENT VIEWERS is insane to me. I watched his little streams where not even 500 people would show up. He's a master at his craft in parody and I'm so so happy he's getting more recognition for it. also sssniperwolf made fun of his hairline. his hairline. do you know what the number one joke was in his series YIAY? jokes about him having a big forehead. girl swung so high it somehow didn't connect to his forehead
I'm glad other creators (like Jacksfilms) can put these reaction channels in their place (like SSSniperwolf) and allow others to realize that they're using other people's hard work to make a profit.
I love how the trial section was actually fair and balanced with BOTH sides having great proof and logical arguments instead of just making the one defending reaction content look bad
I definitely don't mind reaction content when there is actually some kind of commentary content added but it is so annoying when it's one like this that just quietly watch or only add in "OMG" or shit like that.
Fr, i rarely watch reaction channels because of that. I only watch people like Reese because they make funny commentary and actually make the video more interesting
Yes. For example, Boze reacts to stuff like true crime and Karen videos, etc, but adds ample commentary and people like her personality and hearing her insights.
I think what matters is whether or not you add value to what you're reacting to. I have watched a few musicians react to certain songs and they'll pause the video and start explaining the music. Like the chords, the beats, what key its in, transitions, ect...and it winds up being really cool and informative and you leave with a better understanding of the original song so it feels like it heightens the original creation without taking away from it. Stuff like that should be the gold standard for reaction videos honestly.
i love music reactions!! it’s guaranteed the artist will be credited and the person reacting (and viewers) are more likely to revisit the original music too!! most of the reaction channels i’ve seen reacting to music do actually put in effort to analyse what’s in front of them as well
Same, I quite like Mathew McKenna's videos because he gives both a humourous, individual reaction, and explains the musical sides of it in a relatively simple way.
Yeah..i like TwoSetViolin for that one too. They don't do reaction all the time. It's a part of their content..but it's still good. Because it's really funny and educational. They actually explain what was done wrong and why. Also, not a musician, but ChadChad is a good reaction channel too i think. She does funny edits to elaborate things in different perspective and she does it in an insightful way. You have a laugh and see things in a new light. Also, Rebal D as well. He is your bestie first of all. And the way he reacts isn't boring or overexaggarated to gain views. He is genuinely funny and in the end he talks about the video and about his thoughts... Examples of good reaction content without theft..👍
What sets your videos apart is the insightful commentary that you add. The way that you present discussions for your points is very intelligent. My 14-year-old son introduced me to your videos and I'm grateful that there are people like you putting out content that resonate with my personal beliefs and that is what my child is choosing to watch
Personally, I feel there is a difference between reaction content and commentary content. A critique of someone else's content with interspersed clips is not at all the same as real time reactions that rip whole videos (with or without crediting the original poster). Commentary adds to the conversation and meets the definition of transformation as such, whereas reactions are just that, a reaction with little to no actual thought added to the response. I'm of the opinion that differentiation is an important one, and that's why I wouldn't consider your work to be reactions. Might just be me though.🤷♀️
I came here to say the same thing, only you put it better than I ever would’ve been able to 👍 Another thing about “Commentary Content” is that it drives me to watch the original video every time. When credit is given or there are other ways to find the original creator within the content, I always seek it out. It’s lead to me subbing to channels I would’ve never found otherwise.
I am so glad that people like Jacksfilms have been calling out these reaction channels that just summarise the video they're watching or sitting there in silence
The only kind of reaction content I consume is when people are watching shows or movies, and I only watch reactions to things I've already seen. I like to hear what other people think, what their predictions or conclusions are, their perspectives, etc. Take the show Stranger Things for example. It was really fun watching people try to figure out the mystery going on during each season and it was satisfying watching them have the "aha" moment where everything clicks and they put all the pieces together.
@@KaleighCee One of the content creators I watch has hosted Discord movie nights. Everyone watching makes little remarks, and it feels so fun. Like that is transformative. If that creator just watched videos made by other people while either saying nothing or going "damn, that's crazy", I wouldn't stand for it. That's just boring.
That's what I like about the Virtual UA-camrs I watch. They usually do it live on stream and it feels more genuine. At least those I watch. They also do more than just reaction content.
Exactly. It's like giving yourself the same experience as showing a friend somwthing you love, but since you don't actually know this person (and also they're making money off of it) they have to bring something interesting to the table
I haven’t watched the video yet, but I wanted to say that I’m thankful for the reactions to Colleen’s non-apology video because I wanted to understand the meme without giving her views.
That’s what reaction content used to center on-reuploading and commenting on objectionable content, content likely to be dirty deleted, and interpreting current events. The stealing used to be fringe and quickly called out by the wider community. I have no idea how we got here, where actual reaction content is buried and the theft get record-breaking views. But now companies are using the popular theft to claim content that is clearly fair use. So everything is terrible. Sorry about the cynicism.
Something I really liked that you mentioned was how much time goes into your scripts. I appreciate the level of detail and thought that goes into your videos.
Unfortunatelly, i no longer remember what the "new meaning" was. Maybe a joke on how AI was growing so much that react content could be made on the thousands by making fake AI videos? Idk bro, idk anymore...
THANK YOU FUNKY FROGBAIT, for your incredibly well-articulated, FUNNY videos that actually add loads of insight on the topic at hand while being an entertaining watch. The effort you put into these videos is acknowledged and appreciated! The way that “content creators” like these can not only rip off other people’s content, but put in 0 effort, make millions, and then flaunt their money? It’s a flawed system 😭
I think the thing that annoys me most about reaction content creators is very much that they dont link the content theyre using or provide any way to easily track it down. The number of times ive wanted to look at more content from someone and not been able to find them is annoying as heck
1:58 look at a community post on UA-cam’s official channel. All the comments are STILL asking for sssniperwolf to be banned because people are STILL mad about this and I’m honestly impressed.
Here’s a rule of thumb for reaction content. If the reaction itself can be separated from the borrowed content, then the content borrowed should be treated as evidence or support to a greater intellectual work, not the crux of it. Froggy’s content would still be fair use (in my opinion, not legally) because their videos can still stand to a greater point. You can still watch their criticisms and understand it fine, even without the borrowed content. It makes sense with or without it there. However, XQC and SSSniperwolf make no point nor use any of their borrowed content as support to a greater work. Comments like “oh thats crazy” or “wow” would be so vague, reference towards any specific borrowed work would be impossible. Just food for thought for anyone reading! (edited: Corrected Pronouns)
@@amandak.4246 in that case, it's not really fair use. They're not adding value to the content by laughing at it. Also dako_pako was just politely informing tgrey of FunkyFrogBait's pronouns for future reference, you didn't need to comment on it.
@@Arvak I didn't know youtubers are updating rules on what reaction content should be now. And that you're not qualified as or under fair use if you don't do more than reacting to a video. There must be editing, discussion thoughts and most important of all HARD WORK involved. That correct?
I love reaction videos when it’s a larger creator reacting to fan creations, like fanart or animations or songs, because it’s so cool to see them acknowledging the original creators and connecting with their audience. I also like reactions videos when they are an expert on the subject, and explain things, make jokes, or make theory’s. Or when they are watching something for the 1st when you love it and it was heavily requested. But all of those add something to the original content.
@Ab3ndcgi They may not be blatant reactions, but I guess they would technically fall under the reaction category? I get what you mean though, analyses and commentaries typically have such higher effort put into them that lumping both with reaction content feels wrong
Yes! Like Solidarity, he's very invested in the cosplays, artworks, animatics, songs, memes, ect. about him and the Life Series. It's really cool, especially since it allows him to look back on fun moments he had with his friends at the same time as acknowledging people's efforts
I don't know if anyone commented about this already, but I appreciate something more like Daily Dose of Internet. He doesn't show himself, but shows his personality through his comments and some personal videos he uploads to his compilations, he credits his sources, it is to the point and no fillers. It's all fun, enjoyable, and entertaining.
This is the most well put-together, intelligent, and competent summary of a UA-cam scandal. I just want to applaud the effort you put into these videos, and just say you are one of the good ones.
I’m so glad you brought up @jacksfilms because he’s the whole reason I even knew about this world and content “creation”. And to see more in depth reactions and responses to something like this makes me happy to see it spread out even further to expose what a terrible method of “content creation” this is.
The percentage of your input vs the source material in your videos is incomparable to people who completely rely on other sources to make their video interesting. You bring your own value to everything you do, meaning that though I don't have TikTok and would never watch the original material, I always enjoy watching your take on it. I think that illustrates the difference perfectly. Keep on making awesome content!!
I love the sarcasm and outright bitterness that comes from commentary channels. I know that sounds bad but I'm actually serious. It's great to see people who have the same sense of humor that I have and post it on the internet. Especially FunkyFrogBait. They are so funny and huge props to them for watching sssniperwolf.

A couple months ago, a Brazilian UA-camr was "cancelled" for an old video of hers, and then proceeded to make a video defending herself. A streamer reacted to it (giving his commentary on the situation) and it created a chain of another streamer reacting to his reaction, then more streamers reacting to that, and at some point there was a combo of like 12 people on the same reaction-
@@ghoust592 well I can't send links through the comments, but I believe that the longest video is called "CALHOU da Bagi reagir ao Luis reagindo ao Matt, Gou, Felps, Luba e Jean reagindo ao Gay vs Homem"
It honestly doesn't surprise me. Think about it, 20 years ago the 24 hours news cycle really started to take off, and with it the need to fill 24 hours with non stop news. Instead of filling the spare air time with educational information, for the sake of informing the audience (who often need a remedial lesson in basic civics from what I can see) they filled it with talking heads that gave their opinions about their news. And then their opinions about other people's opinions about the news. Now, along comes youtube, and at first it's amazing. Fresh new virgin tracts of topics to talk about . . . But there's only so much to say about Star Wars, or Overwatch, or Quentin Tarantino movies, or making pancakes . . . And so now the same sort of incestuous cannibalism has taken over youtube. Leading to a sort of oroborous that is ever more divorced from whatever reality was originally interesting enough to make a video about in the first place. I guess what I'm saying is . . . people should really go touch grass. @@DeathnoteBB
There is only one exception in my opinion. If the reactor is reacting to things like analogue horror and makes a theory on it at the end of the video. They actually try to find out the lore with the viewers instead of just saying ‘Wow, that’s crazy’ and moving on. I especially like it when you can see them take notes in the video, they aren’t just watching the video for ad revenue, but because they are genuinely interested. It’s even better when they stream it and communicate with the viewers. It’s like an entire meeting to find out the lore of a series of videos. But that’s just an opinion, A REACTION OPIN- I’ll see myself out.
Danny Motta is one of the reaction people o watch but he does it on anime shows and does jokes and makes fun of characters while actually being engaged it the anime he also did anime reviews
EmortalMarcus is exactly who I go to for when it comes to reaction and analog horror, he does the same exact things as you described, develop theories with the help of viewers, and put together lore. I think he does take notes sometimes, but I don’t notice it that much, recommend if you like that type of stuff
The fact that you are ACTIVELY TRYING to get better and are actually crediting when available, is AMAZING and way better than so many huge content creators out there! Just keep going you are doing great!!
Just came across your YT a few days ago and you’re ALL I’ve been watching. You’re so funny, intelligent, and original. Your little jokes slipped into your commentary has me cackling! Keep it up Frog :)
The fact that sssniperwolf had just casually found jacksfilms house, then went to his house and took a pic of it recently was truly the worst part of sssniperwolfs career. She then of course casually said that you can find his address on Google. I did attempt bc i was courious if it was true. It was not. Then again i wasnt looking that hard, nor did i want to violate jacksflims privacy anymore then it already was.
I've watched this video twice now, and I still can't get over how great the self debate was. It genuinely provides both arguments, and the devil's advocate is absolutely using arguments I have seen and heard all of the time. The self awareness stacked on the awareness of others is refreshing to see. In my opinion, your content is transformative. It has lead me to watching videos I otherwise wouldn't have seen (like Jacksfilms and papameat's criticism of s-s-sniperwolf and xqc).
How is it that people like Sniperwolf and xQc have such big fandoms, when other creators who are much more talented and actually make their own content don’t get as much attention. The world and internet are freaking strange, man.
probably at least partly because making your own content takes a lot more time and effort, so the people who do reactions like they do don't have to put much time or effort into it and can get a lot more content out for people to watch
I don't know about SSSniperwolf but xQc used to be a professional Overwatch player, I assume he had a fanbase that followed him after he quit playing professionally. Over time, I'm guessing he learned that pretending to watch videos was a lot easier and more lucrative than learning to play a game competitively. Even so, I'm probably still giving him too much credit.
@@Antifrost It's not too dissimilar. She used to focus her content at teen boys under the name "Sexy Sexy Sniperwolf. It was a little more PG-13 and she did playthroughs as well. You may have heard about the claim that she reads a script and doesn't actually react. That comes from those playthroughs. Her boyfriend would play, write things to say and she'd pretend to play. She got caught out. They realised making reaction content was easier and she mainly aims at kids who just want to watch the best tiktoks which is why her reactions are so non existent. Not quite sure how she got such a massive audience but these kinds of channels are quite popular unfortunately. You just have to be willing to lie, steal and feel no guilt about ripping off other people.
Honestly iconic behavior from jacksfilms, one of the longest running creators on the platform, who knows that his audiance and career are secure, to use his platform like this
12:13 as well as SSSniperwolf's content being lazy and theft, she also made fun of people wearing gear and doing quadrobics in a video, I can't find the video anymore because I don't want to comb through a bunch of her content and give her more engagement. I just wanna say that I've been watching your videos for a while and I can confidently say that even though your content can technically be classified as reaction content, substance-wise, it really isn't. The Man versus Bear video you made is just one of many examples where you actually provide information and well-thought-out opinions and ideas that elevates the content being sampled to a whole new level.

Electric screwdriver
(Also i agree nimona very good balister i hardly know her)
Hearing them share their opinions about the episode they just watched is so much more interesting than just a reactor going "ooh" "ah" could ever be
i really like schnee's video essays, not a reaction channel but I'll still mention him because he needs to be talked about more
yeah! when i used to watch sssniperwolf (don't anymore cuz i heard abt the stuff she did😀) i was confused when people said she didn't add anything cuz she definitely did LMAO. people who just sit there and go "🤯" don't add anything to the content you're literally just watching a video
Good content stems from a good message👍
There are “reaction UA-camrs” and Reaction UA-camrs, you know who’s who by weither or not they have anything to say
Commentary - Critique youtube =/= React channels.
my friend was one of the people in the *try not to cringe* videos that SSSniperwolf did. she said a lot of bad things about him (it was just a video of him with a mask) and people started stalking his socials and even sending him death threats. he had to quit his account and start over because one bigoted reaction youtuber talked shit about him.

There are two types of content reaktions:
1) People who have no drive to make content themselves and just sit there watching other people's content and once in a while say a word or two.
2) People who know their audience likes seeing their reaction to things or hear their thoughts about stuff and hence throw in their two cents to every clip and possibly even make funny edits.
And only one of those two is a leech that's resting on their laurels.
No
Both if them are leeches
You don't understand how reaction content impacts people if you say otherwise
The fact that you add something doesn't mean the original value is still there and thus there's no reason to go actually watch or even check the original vid
And much more garbage that's way too much to cover in text
ua-cam.com/video/Irk8h0ax5aY/v-deo.html
Here's a detailed document about why you're wrong
@@bobule0069 No, not really.
As long as the content is transformative and adds a substantial amount of new content to what is being watched, then it falls under fair use and does not fall under the garbage category XQC and Sniperwolf dominate currently.
And most people reacting to long content make it so people DO go and watch the original by leaving many parts out that are simply not yielding a big reaction from them, they mention the creator and send people over to show them support, etc..
Not all reaction content is the same, it all needs to be judged case by case.
And not all content that is being watched is impacted in a negative way, mind you.
@@bobule0069please go get a life, you’re embarrassing yourself
/EDIT
All in all, it depends on a case by case judgement.

No joke your channel REALLY deserves more views, the combination of metaphors, jokes, and well explained information is perfect.
I'm not saying complexity makes one intellectual individual but I can see a diversion on people who enjoy SSSniperWolf kind of reaction content and UA-cam video essay.
this needed to be said
I dated someone who watched reaction content, as a video essay guy myself… You are correct and I’ll never be doing that again.
If at least their reactions were naturally expressive or had interesting remarks to make... Ive been told Id make a good reaction creator because I'm very over the top, but I like to make my own stuff, so..
agreed. I watch some twitch streamers who talk about politics and they'll play a youtube video or news segment relating to politics, pause the video, and go on a side tangent, sometimes longer than the videos themselves, plus the credit the person and share links in chat. thats one thing. talking over the video to say "huh" or "cool!" and no links and hiding the watermark is just theft.
this not a reaction. It's called a fuсking review
I love his videos
IM SO GLAD YOU MENTIONED SPILLING THE MILK LOL
they're my favorite reaction channel, they add so much to the original show episodes/movies they watch, and they usually clip it up into basically just sections of episodes.
I love spilling the milk, even though they rag on my favorites
i would add "semblance of sanity" to this. they basically only do mainstream media but their videos always have minimum half an hour of discussion after whatever episode they watch
I also like Crit1Kal because he stretches a 30 minute video into an hour stream because he pauses the video and actually provides commentary

And the videos are entertaining
thats my personal main "use" of react content - its like watching a news story about shitty people instead of giving them impressions and ad revenue by seeing their content first hand. i like the original content being present bc it gives me a good sense of what is being talked about before hearing the interpretation/commentary.
15:27 reminded of “two girls one cup” and how someone said it was popular but not loved or of value lol
Not to mention well-researched, too
@singingofsilver yeah I wouldn't want to do the hours of research. That's why FunkyFrogBait deserves so much.
“Be careful, one of them may be your girlfriend” was such a good little joke snuck in there. I love your writing. ❤
You took the words out of my mouth 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
as someone who's been a fan of jacksfilms for almost 10 years now, I'm so proud that something he's doing is FINALLY getting a good amount of traction after so long of not a lot of viewers and such.

Stuff like that should be the gold standard for reaction videos honestly.
i love music reactions!! it’s guaranteed the artist will be credited and the person reacting (and viewers) are more likely to revisit the original music too!!
most of the reaction channels i’ve seen reacting to music do actually put in effort to analyse what’s in front of them as well
This!!!
Same, I quite like Mathew McKenna's videos because he gives both a humourous, individual reaction, and explains the musical sides of it in a relatively simple way.
Now that would just make too much sense
Thank you, Funkyfrogbait, for raising the bar on reaction content. The effort you're making shows and im enjoying your videos more every time.
FFFunkyfrogbait ** 😂
Exactly this.
I really like reaction content when it’s done correctly and actually has regular reactions and commentary that adds something or is funny.
Yeah me too, that’s why I stopped watching SSSniperWolf

One of the content creators I watch has hosted Discord movie nights. Everyone watching makes little remarks, and it feels so fun. Like that is transformative. If that creator just watched videos made by other people while either saying nothing or going "damn, that's crazy", I wouldn't stand for it. That's just boring.
Dylan in Trouble and Aaron and Joel are both fantastic. They commentate on events, point out tropes, make jokes, etc. They dont just go "HEEHEE FUNNI"

Sssniperwolf's fan base is primarily horny dudes. IDK about the other person. Maybe edgy teenagers?

I don't know about SSSniperwolf but xQc used to be a professional Overwatch player, I assume he had a fanbase that followed him after he quit playing professionally. There’s nothing I hate more then reaction content videos then the ones that are GACHA
I think reaction content is fine when it's actually adding to the experience and people are CREDITED but so many can't even do the bare minimum and credit :( sometimes it's nice to hear other people's insight, especially if it's a content creator that is an expert in that field or one that i personally respect.
You are among video essayists and video commentaries, and honestly one of my favorites.
