And here's a video specifically analyzing Kanami's pedal board. It's truly a monster. I don't think a reaction to this whole video is necessary, but skipping through it to find the interesting bits would be cool. The actual shot of the whole board is at 3:14 and then the video talks about each component in some detail.

Akane is just relentless. The heavy breakdown with the triplets on the kick are just jaw dropping. Miku is doing a lot of the rhythmical heavy lifting especially on the breakdown. Kanami is totally off the chain on this instrumental not only the "Egyption" chords but off key riffs. A lot of the pedals must have been used on this track. Oh and did anyone notice MISA bending the last of the notes on her solo.......how does she do that even?!

Out of their instrumentals, this one wins the top spot for me. Onset flat out introduced me to a non orchestra band doing instrumentals, and is amazing. Don't be long was a lot of fun, but didn't have a factor that impacted me like the other two. But I'd still listen to it anytime. And then this one comes along, and just melts my face off. Like Kanami straps you down and turns on a laser point blank, all while having the sweetest smile the entire time.

I just love these instrumental videos. Since I can focus more easily on what I can see, it is much easier for me as a non-musician to hear or recognise certain passages that I might miss in the full live versions. And since the ladies don't just reel it off rigidly, but also seem to have a lot of fun doing it, makes it so much more entertaining for me as a viewer. There are so many reasons why I just really like these ladies. 🤘🏻🔥

Kanami's Pedal configuration - last time I checked anyway - Kanami in an interview states ........
I have tried other guitars as well. Among those I’ve tried, PRS was the perfect guitar for my image of BAND-MAID songs.
Amps Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier with 4×12 Recto Standard cabinet
Effects - When I compose, I don’t think much about the effects. I use it to enhance the songs I've already written live.
Here are the typical settings of my pedalboard:
Delay: Free The Tone FT-2Y, Eventide TimeFactor - I prefer using Digital Delay on the TimeFactor and on the H9, I use Spring Reverb. I use Free The Tone FT-2Y in a series circuit because it adds delays to a set tempo. TimeFactor is used to connect sends and return effects to clean and solo channels. On the other hand, I use H9 only for songs that use reverb. Currently, I only use it for reverb, but I would like to try more algorithms in the future.
Reverb: Eventide H9 - I am a big fan of Eventide's so I want to keep using it forever!
    Volume: Shin’s Music Perfect Volume
Drive: One Control Strawberry Red Overdrive, Fulltone Obsessive Compulsive Drive Overdrive Distortion - I use the boost pedal to add more gloss and deepness in the clean channel or to amplify the sound of the solo or riff.
    Booster: Friedman Buxom Boost
    Compressor: Pete Cornish OC-1
Noise Reduction: ISP Technologies Decimator II
Wah: Morley Steve Vai Bad Horsie 2
    Octave: Digitech Drop

I've seen it elsewhere but I'm beginning to believe that Kanami may be a musical savant. It would explain the growing complexity of her compositions and her thinking outside the box not to mention the marked difference between her on stage prescense and the slightly goofy offstage manner somewhat out of keeping with her undoubted intelligence and age. Her level of work on stage is beyond outstanding as if she has to get every note in her head out in the song.

This is now my favorite Band Maid instrumental. It’s nice to hear Kanami’s guitar with some true volume & power. Kanami has a sizable pedal board but I’m sure she’s subtly using a delay effect. Miku’s rhythm parts are well played and her new signature Zemaitis has hot pickups. Akane’s pedal work is amazing. “Without holding back” is a slamming track.

Nice reaction. I don't think Kanami is putting the pick in her mouth, but continues to hold it between her index and thumb while tapping (she doesn't seem to use her index when tapping) - kinda like how Misa holds the pick when swapping to slap bass (altho Kanami uses her thumb, whereas Misa needs hers free to slap).

    • @philipcable7518
      @philipcable7518 2 роки тому +2

Great observation. Yes Kanami palms her pick in the same fashion as MISA they probably practiced this for hours together. MISA slaps with her thumb and pops the higher note strings with her middle and ring (even her pinky when picking a chord).

The different sounding guitar you were puzzled over from 2:38 was Miku! Miku has the melody in the first half of the verse each time. Sort of rhythm guitar melody, but very cool. She's also doing a counter-melody (with flattened 5th) over the opening riff each time it recurs - you can just make it out. The mix on the live DVD from the cancelled Budokan show has Miku's guitar a bit more prominent for those bits.

Being a huge Instrumental Surf fan, I'm very familiar with the "Egyptian scale"....Dick Dale used it throughout his career...The King of Surf Guitar! Many great surf bands have used it also, quite common with this genre. Hats off to Kanami's versatility and lack of consistency with regards to genre, she's all over the map, and I love her for that. Now if they would ever cover an Instrumental surf tune, I could die peacefully......Here's an Egyptian scale explained using Dick Dales "Misirlou". Misirlou is not his tune, no one knows who wrote it and it is very old. ua-cam.com/video/4H4O2cCZVN4/v-deo.html Here's Dick performing his one version of it. ua-cam.com/video/mKpsuGMeqHI/v-deo.html you may know it from Pulp Fiction....Tarantino is a big Surf music fan too.

Your right when you say it was written with lyrics in mind, in fact, that is the same as all there songs. Miku said in an interview that she writes the lyrics last, inspired by the music. The process is, Kanami sends a demo to the others (apparently with the bass added), then Akane and Misa work on their parts and then Miku adds lyrics if inspired and then Miku and Saiki go through the vocal arrangement. Any song that doesn't make the grade gets binned and they don't ever revive it, (forever).

hi.. about the egyptian scale (thanks.. didn't know the name) i think kanami uses it in "play" too.. min 4.11 of the live version to be exact.. but i'm a bit deaf when it comes to music.. so it may just be something similar

Love you, dude. But, Akane drummed her brains out on that one, spilled them all over the floor, and you never mentioned her.

Akane just crushed this song. The cymbal " fills " while keeping the bass drums going was classic Akane. Not expected but it just works. Gorilla killed it.

The chorus for this is brilliant, but (and I could be in a minority of one here) I sometimes feel that the chorus and 'verses' don't quite fit together as comfortably as they should, almost like they were two written sections put together, rather than originally intended for the same song. Doesn't make it bad at all, just a little unusual.

2:38 I'm pretty sure that was Miku playing that part, not Kanami. =)
