I hope you can continue doing interviews once you get back to work (understandably not as often). Your channel has seriously been one of the bright spots in this whole situation for me. I look forward to your videos! THANK YOU!
Your “in Utah” conversations with your circle of colleagues are very engaging during this crazy time. You have a pleasant way with your curiosity. Wishing you all the best when you return to your world of NYCB.
Thank you, Megan, for this interview! What a great idea to invite the NYCB's Nutritionnist to share her knowledge! I discovered your series of interviews a year later, but they still hold a great value! Thank you! 🇬🇷
I am huge believer in every dancer seeing a nutritionist! As a dancer and a person wild about long distance running. In 2016 I realized that my body wasn’t healing properly, which prompted me to make life changes. In 2018, I decided to become vegan. It has been the best decision of my life. In conversations with my nutritionist, we realized that dairy causes inflammation in my joints, and my body doesn’t process meat “normally “. From these discoveries, we developed a plan of action that works for me. Morning and night vitamin regiments and I continue to do research on what grains are jam packed with protein (farro, is my favorite). I hope more dancers will go and utilize the services of a nutritionist. It is truly game changing. Thank you again for this informative video.
Olivia Kirby I hope whatever pain that is in your spirit ceases. One thing I’ve learned in life is that hurt people desires to hurt people. (Something I learned from my parents). Peace, love and light to you sweetheart.
This is EXTREMELY helpful! I’m having a hard time w diet/energy levels/depression/exercise. My body is starting to show it. Thanks for all this information
Wonderful interview, Megan (as always!). So informative. I am definitely going to start making a more formal meal plan. Looking forward to the next one!
So glad you asked the question about vegetarian and vegan dancers! It is possible and yes of course you should be intentional about your food choices and supplement as needed. As dancers/athletes it's important to be thoughtful about your food choices whatever eating style you choose to follow.
I love your interviews and look forward to every new one that comes out! You are a talented interviewer as well as dancer. I love watching your interviews with a cup of coffee! :)
SO good, thank you. The 'lay the table for yourself' idea is so important - both re diet but also for the self-care aspect. Thank you for these interviews in general - so diverting!
I love coffee...so glad I saw this interview 👏😀. Thank you for another amazing interview ❤️. Your channel is my favorite and I get excited every time there’s a new posting.
I watched your interview with Marika Molnar and you mentioned a mini trampoline. I only mention this because of your topic on health. You can research the health benefits of using one, most importantly, it is great for the lymphatic system. I have been using one for over a year gently bouncing for 20 minutes a day, not breaking a sweat, no heavy breathing, no inflammation. It has been the best thing I have ever done for my health, bar none. Katherine Morgan might try this and find it life changing. I'm definitely NOT an expert but it has been the easiest and healthiest change I've ever made.
@@meganfairchild6135 I thought I sounded like an infomercial but decided what the heck. I know it's more movement for an already active person. It can be 5 minutes at a time, gently. It's good to find new information & make changes to a routine but it's very apparent you do a great job of keeping yourself healthy. Have a cheerful day!
I feel like I have eaten well during this time, especially because I haven’t been able to swim, which along with yoga was my main form of exercise. I still practice yoga and take a long walk every day. I have allowed myself a cheat day here and there ( like FOUR chocolate chip cookies yesterday), but mostly I have maintained my usual good eating routine. It helps me keep my mood good.
I love the idea of this video, and think she said some great things (also she seems like an amazing human) but do want to say that if you restrict to any degree or in any way and do not let yourself eat something, you’ll be tempted to eat it even more. There’s nothing wrong with eating a variety of nutrient dense foods, but setting rules (like 90-10% rule, counting calories, high protein low carb etc.) doesn’t work in the log run!! As it makes you ignore your body’s cues and eventually backfires. If you trust your body you’ll crave things your body actually needs, no need to micro manage it. Intuitive eating is proven to be the best for your health, and not everyone is supposed to be a size that’s accepted by the ballet world💕 (I highly recommend the books intuitive eating, anti diet and body respect and the food psych podcast, if you want to learn the research that shows why setting rules around food doesn’t work and why intuitive eating does). Hope this doesn’t come across as rude, and again I do think she said some great things, it just makes me sad to see that so many people are getting the message that they can’t trust their bodies and have to set certain rules around food. It can start as an innocent way to lose some weight but often spirals into more disordered habits and food fears, and all I want is for no dancer or person to have to go through that. Xxx
Meghan asks such intelligent questions - always - no matter what the subject is. I love her! She is SO well prepared. She's excellent and always wants to help people. Nothing mediocre. There are alot of schools of thought about food, of course. Raw food people feel great but they can't keep weight on. Half n half is a staple for me. I dont think I could give it up. But dairy cows suffer so much so I wish Half n Half wouldnt have existed for me to know about it and love it. The thing I love most about the art of vegan is that you do not hurt or kills animals, fish, etc. The Hindus have various sects. But I was reading about their vegan and vegetarian diets, depending upon which kind of Hindu you are. (Something like that.) It is amazing! Everything is done or not done for the reverence of animals! It is a whole life philosophy which every action of their lives reflects! How pure! If you actually knew the true details of agony all animals go through - including ocean, lake, & sea animals - everybody would be a vegan. I am not a vegan or a vegitarian but I would greatly admire myself if I were because then I would be following my true ideals deep within myself. I wont eat honey any more. We take a cow's milk away from them after a long, forced pregnancy and we steel bees' honey. The bee people take the highly nutritous honey out of the bee hives and then inject some cheap sugar watery concoction in to give to the bees. We give the bees junk after robbing them of their nutrient rich sweet liquid gold which the bees worked so hard for! My father was a marathon runner. He ate a lot of pasta the night before the race.
Idk, I gotta say I kind of tuned out after she suggested low fat dairy over full fat. Dairy is pretty terrible for you, but if you're gonna do it-- its good to remember that low fat = more processed, and higher sugar content. I feel like joy's advice overall is a bit old school 80's/90's nutrition advice.
I found myself a little concerned about that as well. When I was in treatment for an eating disorder the RD I worked with (Who I felt understood the challenges of being a ballet dancer, wanting to focus on a plant-based diet, and also needing to create life-long healthy habits) always encouraged full fat. I’m so curious if there are 2 camps in the nutrition world these days? In any case, so grateful for all of these interviews! Thank you Megan!
This was SO helpful!! I am dancing pre-professionally, so I need to stay in shape while not dancing quite as much. I have been having trouble eating well, so do y'all have any specific recommendations for meal ideas? I struggle with eating vegetables (i actually gag and it can be really hard to eat them lol), so are there any recipes that make them taste better. I know it's dramatic, but it would really help to get them in my diet. Thank you so much for this video!! I also have been struggling with recovering from a stress fracture, so what would be best for something like that? I would love if there was another video with a follow up if possible :) Specific meal ideas, snacks, smoothies, etc would be really helpful! Thank you so much I have been learning and taking notes, so I can always review the amazing info your videos have. Your videos have been one of my very favorite things to do in quarantine! (and you have always been one of my very very favorite dancers, so this has been so cool haha I love how you are a dynamite of stage and so technical!!) Thank you so much and stay safe!
Roasted veggies almost always taste good! You can cut up basically any mix of veggies, drizzle on some olive oil, season them up with garlic/herbs/salt and pepper (as you like), and bake them on a sheet. One of my favorite ways to get veggies into meals :)
Lauren Lovett said she turned vegan and she now has extraordinary stamina. She said other dancers would come up to her exhausted and say, "Why aren't you tired? What is your secret?" Lauren told them she is vegan and doesn't get tired any more hardly - like she used to - and they tried it and said it was the best thing they ever did becoming vegan. That's funny! In her audition interview for N.Y.C.B. on utube when Lauren was asked what is her favorite meal she said, "Steak! I love a good steak!" Funny how we evolve!
Brenda Anne Du Faur Actually many many dancers are vegan 🌱.. (I’ve been a vegetarian for most of my live, and I was a rhythmic gymnast and was constantly fighting my weight) For me, this was a great excuse to avoid eating in public or with family around or just eat some fruit or veggies. I always had a good excuse like in a restaurant and said „Oh so sad, I can‘t eat this, or that, I don‘t know what’s in it, etc.“ And I always tried to convince people (and myself) and said how strong I was or how I great I felt, no matter if it was true... I wonder if it’s the same with dancers. Being vegan is just a great excuse to constantly check what you are eating. And most dancers will never admit it, but weight IS an issue, and I‘m a bit tired of this „oh, everything’s fine, I eat a lot, I enjoy it, etc. ..“ I am NOT talking about Megan! She is a mother, and I really admire her!!
Brenda Anne Du Faur in Germany you get it everywhere 😳 Do you have Trader Joe’s supermarket? It’s Aldi in Germany, and here they have very good plain yoghurts 😋 Greek Yoghurts are also yummy, most have 10% fat
Brenda Anne Du Faur Its interesting. In the USA, there are sooooo many low fat, no fat, no sugar etc. diet products.. and still there is a much higher percentage of obese people. I‘m quite convinced that eating too much of these diet product messes up your body’s own concept of feeling hungry, or full, insulin regulation, etc.
Megally, (I've decided that we are best friends, and given that I had to give you a nick name..)..You have to get your brother on. I would love to know what life is like after leaving NYCB while still in the prime of his career. Does he miss the routine? Does he miss the schedule? Also, can someone interview YOU? Maybe ask a person who is a ballet person, but not a ballerina. I bet SJP would do it. Imma call her. In my imaginary friend group, she is there too! I would love to know what it's like to dance/work in a company with your ex? Your bro can answer that too. I would love to know do you all bring your kids to class/rehearsals like everyone does with their dogs? Does NYCB have a preschool? OOoooh, Imma set that up. (I'm a kindie teacher MA in Early Childhood, so tell the higher ups!!) Ok, lastly what do you think of Russian ballet forms? My daughters were adopted from Russia, so I am obsessed with that side of ballet also! Chat with ya later BFF!
After reading this, I have to share that I am really a teacher, and not a crazy stalker that thinks you are my BFF..You don't have to walk with eyes in the back of your head.
This dietitian talks about planning your meals and instead of eating a pizza fpr breakfast, making an omlette instead. ---- This is such a fake depiction of what's really happening in the ballet world!!! I am pretty sure that a professional dancer would never make an omlette for breakfast on a daily basis. They would probably have a coffee, and a piece of toast or maybe some sort of shake and that would probably be it for the next several hours. It's so sad to me that a person as small as Megan feels the need to restrict her diet beyond eating healthy. But really this is the norm in the ballet world and I'm sorry that this conversation didn't delve into the true nature of this problem. I think we need more HONEST talk. It would have been nice to talk about how bad nutrition - especially eating too little - can be harmful in the long run. They could have done a lot more with this...
I hope you can continue doing interviews once you get back to work (understandably not as often). Your channel has seriously been one of the bright spots in this whole situation for me. I look forward to your videos! THANK YOU!

I like regular yogurt. But I have not found it in years. They only put low fat or no fat on the shelves. Drives me crazy!
