    Once again, the after show is better than the aired show. It was like Barbra didn't know the cameras were still on.

    The hat bit makes sense. My BFF was a famous milliner, Armand of Beverly Hills. He designed the cap she wore in What's Up Doc. Over the years he made many hats for Barbra and never had a negative thing to say where she was concerned. The first time I heard them was during after dinner conversation. The topic was about not letting your ego get in the way, as creative people are prone to do. A couple of stories he liked to share about working for Ms Streisand, go like this.
    The first time he went to her house with a new design, she suggested doing it another way. Amand would say, "and I thought, by golly THAT'S RIGHT!! Her way WAS better and there's no way she'd have known that if she hadn't researched it and I told her so. She became a great client for many years until the era of hats ended & I retired."
    You have to know that Armand NEVER used profanity and never judged others, so one time when he arrived at her home she was finishing a heated call, "and swearing like a longshoreman. I was never so uncomfortable but would never say anything ...but there must have been such a look of horror on my face that you know, she never once swore in front of me again."
    Armand died unexpectedly in November of 2001. Not a day goes by where I don't miss him. Our friends live on through the stories we share. XoXo 💖🌹

      @@annezarra You're welcome. I enjoy enjoy passing them along as much as anyone may enjoy hearing them.
      The What's Up Doc cap actually went for sale or auction 10 or 15 years ago. I forget if it sold for $7,000 or $750.
      Armand's favourite star was Gloria Swanson & he always wished he could have made a hat for her but by the time he was known she was long out of the business (probably in her 80s) and then the lady's hat business was on its way out.
      He "did" name the movie theater in his house, "The Gloria Swanson Movie Theater" -which he pronounced "the-ate-er" with a hard E & A. It was tented in moire grey silk satin that also covered the walls. There were about 20 black lacquer chairs with seats of the same fabric. The entire back wall was covered in her 8x10s with matching black lacquer frames. Seems like only a month or two ago we were getting ready for our annual "Awards Party" or the Valentine's one (Valentine's Day was his favourite holiday). The house is still there but the new owner took off the embellishments we put on when we added a 2000 SQ ft wing so he (the new owner) could get "heritage designation" ... meaning a tax break. I lived there for years. If you ever find yourself bored in Glendale CA you can drive by. It's perfectly visible from the street: 1770 Grandview at the top of mountain. So much love and so many dear friends passed through that house yet I don't recall a single argument. Sure, someone could get exasperated someone else but no one ever got angry & belligerent. I'll shut up now with a line from Barbra's song, "Could it be that it was all so simple then, or has time rewritten every line?" XoXo 💋❤️

    This might sound silly but i became a fan of this wonderful singer after i bought her very first l.P. in which shevsang wont you come home Bill Bailly, i think this was in the very earldry sixties.
    I have remained a fan ever since, in fact if the truth be known I think i actually fell in love with the lady as young as i was because every time i heard her voice it touch my heart greatly, there was something that i had never heard before in the voice, even in songs like second hand Rose.
    I was in the U.K, forces at the time and my greatest wish was to visit the U,S. and go and see her sing in person, and even more i wantsd to meet her.
    I have been involved in music all my life both playing and singing but purely when the chances arose during my life.
    I had sung since boyhood and was lucky to have a reasonable voive which sadly has long since left me which has always sadddened me that i did not keep it up which is a must for later in life.
    I never did get my chance to hear her live or to meet her live the later being the greater wish, as i wanted to so much to talk to her about how she sung like she did.
    Now seventy six i dont think i will ever do either even though it is still my number one wish though few people ever knew.
    To me she is the lady of song and always will be, the most heart touchingnsong for me was with Celene Dione,Tell him, as I think these two ladies both had a gift that there was nobody else could come close to.
    I do still play a little but that has been slowed down after being struck with a bone problem that is slowly taking me apart.
    I thank this wonderful lady for entering into my life with her great voice, i will always be a fan of hers.

    2:17 she talks about the colour of Yentl, I thought that film had great colour. I don't like it when they overdo the antique look on period drama. Like they did on Evita, a great film but it looks like it was shot through a brown filter. I would have much preferred a full-on Technicolor Evita. But as for Yentl, the colour looks perfect to me.

    Oprah had no idea what to do with that bonafide legend.
    She seemed a bit lost and therefore came through as a bit detached.
    Most of those questions are so random.
    Barbra Streisand is a legendary entertainer, she’s a treasure trove of knowledge and experience and all Oprah could ask her is what her favorite cereals are? Or what her best memory is? What? Does she know anything about her?
    Ask her about her experience with Wyler, Minelli, Pollack, ask her how she was able to cross from one decade to another? Every time Oprah just answers uh huh uh huh. Omg! Terrible. Barbra was a great sport but there chemistry was not great.

    • @RS-dm4yo
      @RS-dm4yo 10 місяців тому +1

      Things are not what they seem in the entertainment biz. There's a whole business of having a celebrity guest on--all of which I'm not going to get into--but I'm sure upon the pre-interview agreement, many things were off limits.

    • @alexd1121
      @alexd1121 10 місяців тому

      @@RS-dm4yo I hear you but still one wonders why Streisand came on the show if she’s gonna be so arrogant and why Oprah could not come up with something more substantial to talk about within the pre agreement. Aware that things are much more complex than they seem.

    • @RS-dm4yo
      @RS-dm4yo 10 місяців тому

      @@alexd1121 celebrities that came on the Oprah show weren't her friends. It's business. Like, usually the host of a talk show isn't the owner of the show. Harpo productions has contracts with major studio heads and record companies too. So when celebrities would come on Oprah, they're contractually obligated to do so with the studio/ record company and the studio would have the contract with Harpo studios to have their actor's come on whenever their projects would be released. Harpo and the studio agree upon what could be asked and what needs to be promoted. Also, people are not also aware that when celebrities come the show, the audience is hand picked of fans of that celebrity. They are not fans of Oprah. That's probably also in the agreement as well. Nothing about the entertainment is real. It's all smoke and mirrors. In regards to Streisand, I forgot what she was promoting, but she's a legend, and a control freak as Oprah pointed out. I'm certain in the agreement, there's much about her that was off limits. She has a whole hour to fill, plus another 30 minutes for the aftershow. If she can't ask about the personal stuff, what else she going to talk about?

    • @alexd1121
      @alexd1121 10 місяців тому

      @@RS-dm4yo of course I hear you and appreciate the insight. I’ve worked in that industry too so I’m aware of how fake it all is. I remember being on an important radio show in Germany decades ago while promoting work and being handed a horoscope chart from years before to read as if it was the current one because the producers didn’t know what to do with me…not that I am comparable in any way to Barbra but just to say I know it’s all ratings and smoke and mirrors but still for someone as legendary as Streisand I would’ve approached her differently.
      She was promoting her Movie Album, she might have appreciated more insightful and overall more attentive conversation like the ones Oprah learned to craft later in her career as showcased in many of her Soul Sunday series for example. Maybe take Barbra more seriously when she talks about her colors and such…Barbra’s a great artist and Oprah has that in her too but I had a feeling watching the show that she chose to approach her with the eyes of an outsider who thinks she’s a little crazy (which she might be but still…)

    • @RS-dm4yo
      @RS-dm4yo 10 місяців тому +1

      @@alexd1121 How I looked at the interview. Oprah, had to relinquish a lot of control of her show to have this legend--which Oprah is in her own right--on her show. Oprah was poking fun as Barbara probably had twice as many demands than even another legend. She even spray painted Oprah's mic, which she was not authorized, and she pointed that out to Barbara in the actual interview. You can see in the actual after show Oprah was over it as she kept twitching her legs. I'm certain she felt the questions were just as dumb as you do. Oprah probably felt the same as when she interviewed Elizabeth Taylor for the first time and said it was a horrible interview as right before the interview she told Oprah she's not talking about any of her husbands. Oprah said she thought to herself, that's a long time to talk about perfume for a whole hour. So I think Oprah was just contractually restricted, but it's Barbara Streisand, which Harpo got the exclusive interview.

    Although she is in show business and in the public eye, Barbra is basically very shy and somewhat introverted. Even after decades of experience with this sort of thing, she was clearly anxious during this interview but tried to appear relaxed. She couldn't think of the five singers she likes, etc. I'd doubt that the public fully gets how smart, introspective, sensitive, and gifted she really is - perhaps professionally - but also just as a person. Also, she never developed a public persona. She comes off as a "normal" , quirky person who just happens to be a superstar in show business.

    "What spa?" asks Oprah - as though that's going to be of huge interest to her millions of viewers who will never be able to afford to go there. And to have a legendary singer, actress & director on your show and ask questions as dumb as "what's your favourite cereal?" I guess it means you don't have to bother with any research. But it really is a waste of everybody's time, and kind of insulting to your guest.

      I’m not sure I see the need for the criticism of such minor points. It’s after the show and the casual vibe was intentional I think. I’m a Streisand super fan since grade school practically, and I know that her enornous talent and reputation make her intimidating I think, so I think the whole purpose was to have a light and airy feel to the interview - combined with the fact that it is precisely silly everyday quesrtions like your favorite cereal that are intended to make a person accessible and real to a daytime audience. Oprah’s audience included people like me with diverse and discerning taste, opinion, and intellect. The cereal question was intended to be light and was in opposition to the previous question. Oprah filled an afternoon talkj show niche that was often not deep or probing beyond a certain level on a few shows - as Oprah’s show grew to be as the years progressed and the depth of her show became a staple of quality programming in my opinion. I view both of these women with an equal level of admiration for being titans of their talents and people I cannot imagine anyone feeling anything but respect for. I’m bored to respond to this, but decided I should take up for Oprah and her audience since I was an avid member of that audience and am protective of her. I watch her Super Soul Sunday series on OWN now and think what a Godsend she has been to television and the world as a whole She epitomizes all the insights that her spiritully-oriented programming and subjects of interest represent.

      @@prestonkirksale9993 I'm also a huge Streisand fan and have been for five decades. And I think Oprah is capable of being a smart interviewer, as well as a truly inspirational woman. Both women are highly intelligent; so it would be interesting to see them have an intelligent conversation. If you ask me, Streisand always looks fit to burst when faced with really dumb, trivial questions. She normally doesn't suffer fools, and this is seriously foolish stuff. But I also know that Streisand places so many stipulations on some of these interviews that it leaves almost nothing but the trivial as safe territory. And Oprah is deft enough to be able to do light and playful without coming across as monumentally vacuous. And I don't think either of them deserves a pass for essentially condescending to their audience.

That was sort of the gist or schtick of the content as I recall. And Barbra in that bit stood out to me as unusually generous and open in her delivery...far more so than normal...as though she recognized the lightness of the moment too and was especially relaxed and forthcoming in her responses and overall vibe. She couldn’t think of her favorite memory??? Very strange considering her life ,how about anything to do with her son ? She kept squeezing her brains and couldn’t come up with anything ,so uninspired…

    My God...I don’t think she actually answered a single question. So evasive.

      To be honest, I wouldn’t have answered those questions either. Can you imagine if she said, ‘yeah, this is the restaurant I go to,’ or ‘here’s the name of the spa?’ People would be camping out at those places to catch a glimpse of her. She had to protect her privacy.

      Dave Glo There we’re questions that had nothing to do with where she ate dinner. She was asked IF she cooked…that’s a big secret??? She wanted all the publicity Oprah could give her but gave Oprah almost nothing…a really evasive interview and mostly uninteresting answers. That’s pretty shitty.

      I think Barbra doesn't like being forced to give spontaneous answers because she is a perfectionist. Oprah should have given her the questions three weeks ago LOL

    Who the hell cares about Barbara’s politics. And why is it that in every discussion with Barbara there’s politics- stick to the music we love your music, me not your politics but you’re entitled...

      She is boring because the formula is boring. On some shows, like the one with Larry King, she is very interesting talking about politics, making films, women...
