Good morning! It's good to see you both again. Thanks for sharing your area. Yes it's kinda strange that you didn't see much wildlife on the trail. Maybe they were preparing for the coming storm. 😮 Hopefully you all didn't get any high water. It's good to hear that you'll be getting back on the Appalachian trail again. I really miss following your hiking journey. Enjoy the rest of your summer with your family. 🙏 ❤
Very strange, right? The storm passed us last week, so I’m not sure where everyone was! 😂 And thank you, we’re excited to get back on the AT next year. In the meantime, we’re excited about the other trails and adventures we have planned, too. 😊 Thanks for being here with us! Hope you have a wonderful day! 💙🙏🏼
An oldtimer would say, "The trail is calling you back." Good news. Look forward to seeing you back on trail. You're going back with much knowledge and experience now. May God continue to keep and bless you both.
@@wildflowersadventures So true. I grew up a short drive (or hike) from Grayson Highlands. I backpacked and camped the AT many weekends in the seventies and eighties, especially in the winter with no money and cheap, often homemade gear. As new gear became available and money allowed, I acquired what I could. My record cold trip was in Dec of 1990 - 22 Degrees below zero - actual air temp. Wind chill was scary. We (me and my two crazy cousins) camped on the back side of Mount Rogers close to the Old Orchard Shelter in about 2 feet of snow for 3 days and two nights. (Yes, I have pictures until the camera froze up.) I think you all camped near there. There were very few people on the AT in those days. But the calling is real. I think Trey (Earlie Riser 71) and many others tried to figure that out. I think the calling is a psychological need to get away from what humans have created and all it's stress and aggravation - the Matrix if you will. The AT provides such a place. What's wild is I have felt all alone while around crowds of people, making a Matrix life, raising a family and becoming a successful business owner. When life allowed, I hit the trail and felt completely comfortable out in the middle of nowhere with God and God's creations all around me. (And the world didn't always like me leaving it). I spent the night in a new Zpacks Offset tent as Debby passed over the mountains and it survived heavy rain and 45 mph winds. Great tent! The trail calls me too after 65 years. Sorry for the long rant. You all take care. David
Thank you for sharing, David. It’s wonderful to hear you, Little Bear and I can connect on this. We feel it, too. We feel such peace and are so comfortable. That record cold trip seems scary! Too cold for me! Our record day so far was our very first night on the AT. I think it was probably in the teens because the thermometer read 20 degrees inside the tent. Sooo cold once we emerged out of our quilts! I’m happy to hear you have had a successful life as a business owner and family life, and have still been able to enjoy hiking and camping. It’s truly such a blessing. Little Bear and I are so excited to get back on the AT. It’ll be fun to see how far we get this time. 😊 Lots more hiking to enjoy before then though. Thank you for your kindness and support. 🙏🏼
That's a great plan. Hike until you're ready to go home! I love it. And I loved the trails you showed us today. The big old trees are magnificent! Thanks
Omgosh. I would not kayak in water where there are alligators. No way!!! 😂 All those turtles were so cool!!! And i love that board walk! Oh wow!!!! That is such exciting news~ back to the AT!!! ♥️🥾
Gators can be scary, I know! But, in Florida, pretty much the saying goes, “if there’s water, there’s gators!” So, it’s unavoidable to kayak without them. 😂 Of course there are places that have more gators present, and I would avoid those waters. Thank you. We had a great day. I love watching Little Bear in her element. It’s so sweet! And yes! I think LASH’ing the AT works much better than a continual thru hike for us right now. Although, we did just decide when she graduates and my husband simultaneously retires, we’re gonna attempt a thru hike together! God bless! 🙏🏼💙
Yipppeeee!! That's great news on the decision to hit the AT again! You may decide to section hike it which is an honorable way to do it too. Looking forward to this!!!

Thank you! We had a nice day. 😊 We’re excited to get back on the AT in April/May. It’ll be fun to see how far we get. I’m thinking we’ll start out with 10-12 miles/day for the first week and then go a little farther each day after that. We’re aiming to be out for a month or so. 🙏🏼💙
That’s a really nice looking trail! Critters or not, it was a pretty little hike. I enjoyed it, thanks for taking us along! That’s really exciting y’all are planning on going back out on the AT! 😃🙌🏻
Awww such a cute pic of Ellie and Alice! This trail seemed like a fun nature trail. I enjoyed the turtles, lizards, and the big fish. Lol oh my gosh, people can kayak with alligators in that water? Seems a bit scary lol. So exciting that you both are picking up from where you left off on the AT trail! Can't wait for that as well as your other adventures before that! Good morning, Bears. It was a beautiful walk even though we didn't see any critters except turtles and a lizard. Exciting news about a LASH next spring/summer. I enjoy hiking or having other adventures with ya'll and your family, so you can bet I'll be with you. Since I don't travel anymore and can barely walk 15 ft, I depend on you and others to let me hike vicariously through you. Good morning to Ellie and Alice.
