    This was EXCELLENT! I just purchased a new Northface Parka, and many reviews spoke about how difficult it was to get the stains out. After watching your video and reading that Nikwax is a soap specifically for down jackets, I am confident that my new puffer will be JUST fine!!!

  • @mining4goldmeister420
    @mining4goldmeister420 4 місяці тому +12

    Nikwax is a laundry soap made specifically for washing down. It doesn't strip the feathers of their oil. The oil is what gives feathers their protection against the cold. Regular detergents strip out the oil and reduces their capacity to protect from the cold.

    I’m not sure if you would reply to this but I just washed my husbands NF jacket and it’s gone flat so I panicked and came across your video.
    I washed it for an hour or so on 40. I just saw now I have to put in in the tumble drier but I don’t have tennis ball, what else can I use? And also my tumble drier has heat to dry, how bad will this be for the jacket?

    I heard regular laundry detergent strips the natural oils from the down, essentially damaging it and affecting its natural properties. There's some special soap designed specifically for down jackets that apparently helps the down retain it's puffiness and warmth.

      Grangers or Nikwax. But I've only sent mine for specialist cleaning so no idea what they use. I need to do spot treatments on my coats though before I send them off again.

      @@Evansellick05 it’s not bad for the money and worth buying the down cleaner and then wash in their waterproofer, it’s gives the jackets more protection and you will see the rain beading off, I just bought a secondhand orange thin duck down jacket made by Nike and will give it a wash and waterproofing soon, I bought the jacket cheap for camping as it could get damaged but it’s better than damaging my thrudark jackets that costs a lot more

      Try do low heat but it’ll take a while to dry, so don’t stress, balls just help distribute the puffs
