    LOVE that you made this video!!! 💜💜💜Do they have many restaurants with patios that are dog friendly? Do you often come across Great Danes in Costa Rica?

    • @SarahElenaDesignsLife
      @SarahElenaDesignsLife  6 місяців тому

      Yes lots of dog friendly restaurants. Most open air outdoor restaurants are dog friendly, however indoor ones usually would not be. I have seen great danes actually. One of our own clients brought a huge one.

    We are in the process right now trying to get our dog here from the States. The internet is a powerful thing! This is a while concierge service that will handle things from door in the States to door in CR. Pricey, but seems great - no need to worry about the logistics, they handle everything except the vet paperwork that you of course need to get yourself.

      @@jblo76 I used a company called Pet Lounge to get our dog from Florida to Costa Rica. I can't remember exactly how much it cost, but I can say that when it was all said and done it was a few thousand. I was comfortable with the price because it would've cost me roughly the same to try and do it ourselves due to the fact that I would've had to rent a car, drive about 4 hours to a different airport (since not all airlines fly dogs cargo and I had to find one would and also one with nonstop) get a hotel because of the flight times, buy tickets for myself and someone else since I didn't want to try and do this all by myself...etc.
      Please note that it was a custom cost that included the transport to pick up our dog, to board our dog for a few days, the flight, and then the transport to our home in CR. The weight of the dog is included in the calculations as well.

    Would’ve been nice if you covered the actual steps + requirements and/or paperwork of actually getting the animal down there.

    Still getting used to dogs being off leash. Never once a problem with any of them . . Our Chihuahuas are on leash because of their big dog personalities 😂. -- The Cane Toad looked like a bouncing ball, one evening, so one dog bit it. Instant foaming. We thoroughly rinsed her mouth immediately, and she was fine. So no more Chihuahuas outdoors at night!! Pura Vida 😊

      Glad nothing happened with the Kane toad! Azu has gotten a hold of a few of them and the ticos always rinse out his mouth with milk or lime juice. I think he’s learned now though…. Don’t think he wants like juice anymore in his mouth 😅 I think he started associating toads with lime juice

    Dogs (especially big dogs) are also a great "alarm system" in Costa Rica.

    • @SarahElenaDesignsLife
      @SarahElenaDesignsLife  10 місяців тому

      Yes for sure. I do recommend keeping them inside however as your alarm to avoid them being poisoned.

    Thank for the video, Sarah. My question is about the dog breed in a tropical climate. I have not found much information online on this topic. My girl is half Aussie shepherd and the other half husky and malamute, so she does have a thick double coat. I’m a surfer and my intention is to move to a beach town on west coast CR. I read somewhere else that husky pets are surprisingly common in those areas, however you did comment that the thick fur could be cause for concern. Of course, I would be cautious of her in the heat, walking her in the cooler mornings and evenings. I’m not sure what town you’re in (new to your channel), but do you know other dog owners who have those types of dogs with thick/double coats and, if so, how are they faring there? Thank you.

    How about pet food availability? It’s not a great thing to suddenly change foods on them. How would you recommend people go about that?
    I currently live on the island of St. Croix (USVI) and finding good pet food is difficult but I’m able to have it sent regularly on subscription from Amazon.

      What we do for people we work with is ask them what food their pet is on and call local pet shops in their area to see if they have it. If they don’t we see where else May have it and if it can be delivered easily.

    Thanks for addressing this. I understand there are animal rescue places in the country (as is the case everywhere). For security, if I arrive as a longer term renter (6 months to a year), is it possible to foster a dog for the time of my stay? And in terms of a longer or permanent stay, I too would be interested in the availability of vet services and costs.

    my pets are the 1 thing that is keeping my from getting serious about moving to CR. I worry about them being safe from all the deadly animals that are there. We would probably end up living in a rural or jungley area. Will the be safe from poisonous snakes and frogs.

    • @SarahElenaDesignsLife
      @SarahElenaDesignsLife  6 місяців тому +1

      If you have cats just keep them indoors, and if you have dogs then keep them on a leash when you go out if that will make you feel better. That will keep them safe in that case from those types of animals. My cat goes out all night since he was already an outdoor cat when I found him and two of my dogs do go off leash on the property since they were street dogs when I found them as well. But since you’re bringing yours just keep the cats in and dogs on leash and you shouldn’t have any issues.

    Sarah, I have a question. Is it pretty easy to make friends down there for when I may need to travel back state-side to watch my dog if you know? I mean, I'm sure it's easy to make friends, but I worry about when I will need to travel back up here to the states and if I can rely on people down there to watch my dog as I would theirs.

      You could get a house sitter. There are websites for that - they vet the people for you. You pay a fee for the year or for the service and then that's it. You don't have to pay the sitter and the sitter gets free accommodation and will watch your pets.

      @@Kattywagon29Rob posed a great question and I appreciate your follow up. I’m also worried about what I’d do with my dog since I’m planning to move to CR alone and won’t know anyone to watch her when I go back up to the States. Can you please share the name of a couple of these dog sitter companies/websites so I can research ahead of time? Thank you.

      @@jblo76 I don't know any dogsitter companies, though I am sure they exist. However, I am going out of town for about 5 days with my daughter next week and I am getting a house sitter to come by and keep an eye on our dog and our plants.
      There are websites like Trusted House Sitters where you can look for people to take care of your house, pets...etc. while you are out of town for pretty much any duration. In my situation, I know the house sitter personally, so I can't speak for any company in particular, but I know that is the company that she works for and has been traveling the world for the about 8 years doing it.
