Thank you. The best and very detailed instructions I have seen. I am about to plant a hedge and have problems with rabbits and deer. I wonder can you use Spiral guards on evergreen Laurel and Holly hedging or is it better to use mesh guards? Many thanks.
Hi there, you would be better with the tree shelters, but they are more expensive or rabbit netting folded over and buried at the bottom. It is not impossible to use spiral guards, you would just have to allow some leaves out, cheers Mike
Thank you Mike! Question about the rabbit protection... aren't the plants a bit restricted in there? how will they branch out? I definitely need rabbit protection where I am and just trying to decide what to use. All the best!
Hi, by cutting the plants back after planting that makes them branch out. Go for a decent grade of rabbit fencing, sometimes the cheap mesh breaks up after a couple of year. Bury the fencing and bend it back at the bottom to stop the rabbits burrowing, cheers Mike
Thanks for this. Planting a native wildlife hedge and it's very tricky to find such clear instructions - cheers!
Useful video! It's good that you tell us that you need to have about 40cm between the rows

@@Mikebaldwin007 thank you so much for getting back to me, Mike! so using those tube type guards is not really recommended as a rabbit ptorection?
Hi, the tubes do work, but you can also do the fencing to be on the safe side, cheers Mike
@@Mikebaldwin007 thank you! :)
wildlife hedge = native species - forget the cotoneaster etc.
