My Favorite Riff with Nikki Sixx: Jake Kiszka (Greta Van Fleet)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 гру 2024
- My Favorite Riff is all about celebrating established artists, and introducing the next generation of guitar shredders. 2017 was the breakout year for Greta Van Fleet, with their Zeppelin inspired hit "Highway Tune". Guitarist Jake Kiszka sits down with Nikki in one of our very first MFR's. There are some technical difficulties but the riffs and talent are undeniable.

When Nikki Sixx tells you he’s into your band when you’re like 20, you know you’re doing something right...
Right?? How cool!
@@melissahagertv1315 you by here, great!
Naw not really Nikki Sixx was a shitty musician in a cheesy 80s party band
Or not...
The boy being shy, nervous and respectful, the elder being wise and nice. The torch's passing, keep on Rockin' brothas
As it should n always be
Awesome comment Indra...
@@kennedy7955 Thanks
Well put! I am "oldschool" so i like that attitude very much. Weirdly it makes me just happy to see two persons show eachother respect in that way.
well, he's sitting chatting to Nikki freaking Sixx!
Sam was just really enjoying the dog in the background. 😂 When the dog scooted closer he got excited.
Omg right😆

So cute
Hope one day Jake Kiszka is sitting on a couch with his own show interviewing some young kid full of talent.
Until he can come up with his own sound it ain't gonna happen.
@@masterpiecelacquers2766 why not? nikki did it! lol
@@DeshiNoisePoison yes Nikki came up with his own sound..
@@masterpiecelacquers2766 so sad you didn't understand that gvf sound more blues and they are just inspired by led zep
@@DeshiNoisePoison nikki wrote most of the songs of the Crüe he's a great bassisst and songwritter
imagine its your first few years in the music scene and fucking nikki sixx asks you to do an interview
Not many people know motley crue
@@betobolt9212 Since when is millions of people not a lot?
@@arneboom compared to other bands at the time that everyone listened to way more
@@betobolt9212 you're missing the whole point. If you are 19/20 years old and Nikki wants an interview, then you are either very lucky or very good. You dont play music yourself I guess? Nowafays its hard for a beginning band to become big.
@@arneboom i do play drums and i got some friends to play with. And ofc i would go if nikki invited me. But what im saying is that i would much rather be invited to an interview with eric clapton or gary clark jr than nikki
Tryna watch Jake and Nikki talk but I can only focus on Sammy petting the dog on the couch
Right😆
SAme lmfaooo
I want Jake
Chad Fleischauer 2:32 watch this part ♥️♥️😭
Doggo found himself a new friend
This young guy is killer and it makes my smile that he’s so nervous around Nikki
I thank their parents more than anything. They made this possible in how they raised them with great music.
Matt ..I think I read in an interview it was also an Uncle with an amazing vinyl collection...hehe
Sooo true. Good roots make fine and talented people.
Nikki is so kind. What a guy.
Patrick Carroll that dude has done a lot of bad shit. Not the greatest person.
It’s all in the name of metal
Just watch you're back with Sixx!
@@adambrown1719 you mean all in the name of rock n roll.
I agree so down to earth
Who TF raised these gems? Seriously stellar parenting--can't wait to see where life takes these hard rocking youngsters! Fan for Life!
Karen and Kelly kiszka and the parents of Jake Sam and josh! Lori is Danny’s mom❤
Most lead guitarist require accompaniment but not this guy. He fills in the spaces effortlessly. Greta Van Fleet is THE band.
They are still pooping in their Huggies. Wait another 5-10 years then if they have multiple hit albums maybe you can say they are THE band
Can’t wait that long. They’re already THAT good. ☺️ Lodie
Tesla Edison that’s the most fair statement i’ve ever heard abt gvf
How is Tesla ‘s comment true. Look back at bands from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90,s who’ve recorded hits from their 1st album on. There are so many. ☺️ Lodie
Toilbaby Yeah, but kids these young aren’t gonna be incredible right away like Zep, Clap, etc. Once they mature a couple years they will be very good, considering they’re pretty good now
That was cool...his tone is great and natural sounding. Players get too caught up in their "awesomeness" , this kid is humble and really good, and that's refreshing.
I don't care if this band sounds like Zeppelin. It's refreshing. Even Plant said live "Everyone Nicks It".
Plant oughta know.
Even Tom Hanks and Elton John approved. The one who's complaining in comment sectiosn usually a failed middle-aged guy from failed rock band lol I'm sorry if that sounded harsh but I stalked some of them through their youtube accounts, like I want to know what's their motivation instead of enjoying it LOL
From the master plagiarist himself
yeah in my experiences shit happens.
amps fuck up, mics go out for no good damn reason!
yeah lol I have played gigs when our big moment came....it all went wrong!
Zeppelin nicked everyone else.
So cute how nervous he was!! Jake is so talented, can't wait to see his playing mature. The dog wanting Sam to pet him, sooo cute! 😍 Saw them live in July, they rocked! Blew me away. Love them, best concert I've seen in years!!
these boys are incredibly talented and I hope that they will show the world that rock and roll still live on
Rock is stronger than ever. More variety and more rock bands than ever before
Love watching the Dog on the couch bugging the guy to pet him lol
That's Sam, the bassist in GVF
Yeah GVF's unofficial name before they settled on "Greta Van Fleet" was actually "Greta's Good Boys". Why they went in the direction they chose always leaves me dumbfounded when I think about it
Sammy
That’s Sammy
Kid was nervous. Kinda cute.
He definitely was nervous talking to Nikki :) lol
It's alright he kept his composure
O
PD K honestly didn't look nervous in the least Hey lol these dudes totally just got each other
Jake couldn’t talk for shit lol he’s worked on it
I love how Sam's just playing with the dog the whole Time 😂
Sam playing with the dog at the background is *everything*

Love this band!!!!! So good to see rock is making a comeback in the mainstream with the kids.
Agreed. I love this band as well. There are a lot of arm chair critics posting on this page. It's a shame.
Why? People can't have differing opinions? That's a shame.
they are unoriginal and suck ass.
Really? I was about to say that about you!
Yep with a boy band zepellin. Zeppelin.
Does the dog sing or play any instrument?
Both actually
Too funny...
He’s a howlin wolf
He sings backup howls :)
Nikki these kids are the next biggest thing in rock n roll. To the people who say that they are a Led Zeppelin rip off. I ask you! Do you like Led Zeppelin? If yes. Then what’s the fuckin problem!?!? Cuz they sound great. Their phenomenal live. Best rock sound out there right now. Real rock sound.
The problem is that they took the easy way, instead of doing their own thing and be good at it. That's usually a sign of some lack of song-writing skills. Next thing they'll be doing Led Zeppelin covers...
Module79L they already do Led Zeppelin. Like full sets too. But their original stuff is really good. Big Zeppelin influence. There’s one song that sounds like it’s straight off the first rush album. I hear ya with the originality problem. But listen to the whole album. They’ve definitely got their own sound. Besides they’re still young. Plenty of time to grow
But see, that't the problem: if I want to listen to Led Zeppelin, I go and listen to them, if I want to listen to Rush, I go and listen to them, not to a band that's pretending to be them. The same could be said about the songs that sound like another existing bands. In my opinion, they're starting the wrong way and either it'll be difficult for them to step away from that "brand" in the future or their fans won't be pleased when they change (if they do). The music world needs new stuff, not recreations of the past.
Module79L point taken. I get what your saying. But the same can be said about Zeppelin. Cuz they ripped off almost all of their stuff from older American blues. Note for note. Rush was a blatant ripoff of triumph. So much so that you can’t tell the two apart sometimes. Influence is what drives us as musicians. Playing the music we love
Who didn't, back in the day? It was all they had. Even Ritchie Blackmore addmitted that he stole Black Night's riff from another band!
Influence is a different thing. My influences don't make me go about copying them. ; )
Jake may be young but he & his brothers have been playing since they were babies. When people compare you to LZ at their age just imagine what the future holds. Welcome to retro metro rock & roll. Merry Christmas Kiszka & Sixx families!
Fuck Yeah! I can tell they have it in their blood.
Well LZ was their age when they first started out, early 20's and they had their first few albums out.
Hey keydee, if you go learn some history about young jimmy page, how he started and professionally being sessionist before journey with the yardbirds and all. So you can know how much today shitness of technology and society taken most purity in souls. Imagine how them created stuff back in 60s 70s, while we're just improvising most, some just copy catsing it. Even the proper version of cobain are not yet manage to be see after this 3 decades. Generation degrades.
Don't get me wrong, this dude is good but, cant compare the first grade apple to the second/third grade. All are sweet but the first one is special.
I can't get enough of these guys. Jake is all kinds of talented
That noise, though.
For real. I can't even make it through the interview.
Right.. how could they not notice the hot pickup buzz? Just goes to show they probably can't here shit.. LoL
Is it the A/C?
Mike Shine he is using real PAF. That’s a 61 SG.
I f you easily get distracted, your head most be full of garbage, focus whats there
Jake K is one of the best guitarists at this age. Just the best!!
It's great these kids are into good classic rock.
Nice Nikki. Love how your putting these guys out front. They need their "Rock uncles" like you recognizing them.
Didn't know about this series. Nikki, you are doing a great service to guitarists everyone. Very pumped about GVF. Great sound.
Jake can stand with the best ! Very talented guy .
Jake is good guy! looking forward to the future!
Finally some youngsters who do some amazing great old Rock and Roll. I LOVE Led Zeppelin and yes I grow up with them. Love this band!!!
Absolutely great! Greta Van Fleet is the New Generation of Rock with a terrific Masters influences.. Go Jake! Tell Riff what been a KISZKA means!
It doesn’t matter what you love to do it’s always amazing when you get to talk to someone else who has the same passion as you. I love watching people talk about their passions, they light up in ways they just wouldn’t otherwise!
Really starting to like these guys, not just a fad. They love guitars, gear, music and classic rock and roll \m/
I love how Nikki goes, “was Jimmy Page an influence,” he knew the answer. But honestly, I love gvf
Sammy playing with the dog in the background is too precious!!❤
This kid is ALREADY so knowledgable on the past greats, in later years I can see him becoming a producer.
Can’t stop looking at the dog 😍
Damn it, now I have to learn guitar. I've thought about it for years but this band and guitarist has finally decided it for me. Also, I love the interview, but that dog trying to get Sam to pet him is everything.
I love Greta Van Fleet. Love their sound and that all the guys seems like great down to earth guys. They are extremely talented and I look forward to many years of their great music.
You know you are arriving when Nikki Sixx is interviewing you. I really like this band.
I love this band! Those kids are going places ✨🙌🏻👍🏻❤️
I did not know there was a Les Paul with the SG body shape. Learned something today!
that makes two of us as I thought it was a sg
It actually was launched as the LES PAUL SG, when gibson's sales were running low in the 60's. It was called the les paul sg until 1962, when les paul's contract with gibson ended, then it was rename to SG only. Les Paul did not liked the SG, though.
Les Paul made them take his name of that..he never gave Gibson the go ahead to use his name he even said I would never put my name on that ugly guitar
The SG stood for solid guitar.
In the 60’s Gibson called sg les Paul
I find it endearing how nervous and bashful Jake seems in the interview. Nikki is perceptive of it too and does a great job with the interview.
ROCK N' ROLL ! ! !
Been a long time since this flavor wafted through a young upcoming band....its VERY Refreshing. !!!!
OMG this kid rocksssss and his guitar is older than me!!!
So glad these guys are getting the exposure, they deserve. The musical universe is theirs. Thanks Nikki Sixx!
These guys are unbelievably awesome
Nikki Sixx what a fantastic person.... Overcame the worst and is still one of the best.... Love this group and love this show God bless you all
this is band is awesome, the real deal! real players ,!!!cant wait see them live!!
1. Where the fuck is that feedback coming from?
2. I can barely see the name of that pedal he's using on the amp to his right.
3. love how this is pretty casual. I can still tell Jake is a bit not used to the whole notion of being a rockstar. But his true colors are very vulnerable here and he's a humble funny guy. So this is a raw interview to say the least.
4. I think I can sense that Jake is nervous through his playing as well! he's had better days for sure. He's still a genius nonetheless
because he played in front of Nikki Sixx lol
He s using a OCD truetone overdrive
Its The polarity Switch it the other day
They seem down to earth and overall good kids! Best of luck to them.
These kids have a healthy music inspiration, they're inspired from 60's & 70's rock not from 90's/2000's pop punk, nu metal or emo
After going through the video interviews and the music . I could plainly see . These young musicians will be around for a long time , as long as they don’t get any bad habits . The 70s are back . Good luck guys 😎✌️
love when he played Smokestack Lightning
There no problem rehashing the classic rock sounds! And these guys do it well. This fact doesn't make them the next coming of rock and roll greatness though. More like a great grooving band with that sound you've always loved.
sodbuster1978 That's my opinion, too. ^_^
I absolutely love how you can obviously see how passionate they are about it. Their faces just light up talking about it.
Sam and the dog in the back 😂
I love when legends show appreciation for younger musicians.
Greta Van Fleet is AMAZING for a new band...
This just came through my UA-cam feed I wish it were longer I could sit and listen to Jake talk about his playing or how he comes up with his ideas for hours ️ ❤️
Love this kid, he gets the whole lotta love "up bend" thing!! /most people play it wrongly
I love how Nikki is doing this with other players and talking so openly !! This is amazing.
sam and the dog are the best part of this video, love jake and nikki but the dog and sam tops it all
Ahhhhhh... To be young as this guy again.
Oh the comments. They sound like this. They look like that. EVERY thing is built on the past. I say this to critics, why must the burden of original sound and content be placed upon another? Instead of criticizing, go and create the sound you wish for. This group, and all other performers owe you nothing.
Mordant Vistas awesome comment, right on.
Just like poor Jacob Nowell of LAW. He forever lives in the shadow of his father Bradley Nowell because he sounds just like him. When he owns his own style and talent.
Mordant Vistas how about someone else’s sound? I wish for the style of Led Zeppelin. As a performer I owe don’t owe anyone anything including those of which I copy
The only thing i am sure of, Led Zeppelin will NEVER release another album. Greta van fleet is an absolute breath of fresh air! Ok that makes 2 things I'm sure of🎸
Nixx you are making my dreams come true thanks
Say what you want about this band, but that guy is one hell of a player.
It is cool that Nikki is listening to new artists and GVF are great. They are taking the Led Zepp sound in a new direction with modern influences. At this age with their talent we should have amazing songs for years to come.
It takes the guitarist to say that Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page was a HUGE influence on his playing.
However, the lead singer does not count Zeppelin as being an Influence.
I like the guitarist (Jake Kiszka), he rocks for calling out the truth.
Check out The Dave Kinchen Media interview with Josh Kiszka, that will clear things up.
It’s fine to have opinions, but these guys are doing something right.I think we’re dying for this music again.Great time for this and a great band only getting better.
Christopher ...this music never really went away , the bands doing it are just never played on radio. The hype around these lads feels exactly the same as when WOLFMOTHER broke out. I hope they can keep their shit together as it will be curious to see how their sound evolves.
Ah, Nikki, the old welcoming the new & testing them!!! L♡VE it. He can play guitar & has old knowledge!!! Can we see you interview the singer also??? 🎄🎁❄🌴❄🎁🎄🎅🎅🎅🎅
that is NIKKI SIXX guys ! He's a legend. When he likes your music, you are making it BIG !
Just cool. Nikki is just this great seasoned rocker and Jake the new guy on the block; but clearly going places. Great to see.
More of the dog!
So awesome, Nikki seems like a cool ass guy.
Stand by me!!! lol. Greta Van Fleet has to be one of the top 5 best band names ever. keep up the awesomeness guys
Yeah. Back in 2012, it was taken from an elderly woman with the surname and her name is Gretna. The band didn't have a name at the time, and they were about to play at a festival one night, and they needed a name, so they spontaneously took hers with her blessing. That's the funny thing about a lot of ideas, sometimes it just comes to you naturally. 😂😂✌☮
upload the slash one nikkiii
Great Interview. Come back in a year after being superstars and lets hear those riffs.
Nikki bring Tyler Bryant to the show !!! amazing player.
NIKKI is done with this show forever. All these interviews were done long ago. Sadly no more because its my favorite show on YT.
I didnt know about this :/
vinic.0li I met Tyler, nice guy.
Tyler Bryant is amazing. Sad he has never gotten the sustained and much larger recognition he deserves. In retrospect, he probably should have forgone finishing high school and taken the record company offer when his moment had seemingly presented itself. (Parents. Always getting in the way with their "sound" advise)
John Palermo no way man, theyre highly energetic but the songs just aren't up to par man, they're super boring
Man he nails that 70s Page like Gibson/Plexi feel, not a technical or precise picker but that's exactly what the music calls for
Jake E Lee ... Nikki Sixx ...
The way he screamed like Josh at 7:00 hahahaha🤣
Love this new band being interviewed by Nikki. My most beloved band is Motley Crue so this was a wonderful video to watch. Excited for Greta Van Fleet and the new Dirt movie.
I feel the same thanks for posting
He's got this Angus feel to his lead playing
Dan Sotelo I hear that more than anyone else's thoughts. yeah I hear Zep but really only vocally. guitar quality in the sound is more Angus.
I've been saying that about Highway Tune during the chorus riff specifically. There's a lot of Angus in his playing.
Cream Clapton as well, I don’t think he actually likes page that much
E he said he studied everything page did for and just played a page riff on my favourite riff so I’d say he likes him a bit
DJxUNiT page was amazing at composing, unfortunately he was terrible at playing
I just keep looking at Sam petting the dog😁❤️❤️❤️
Nikki has made it, eleven-fold. SO COOL for him to be charitable to up-and-coming bands. Love it.
It’s hard to believe Nikki’s voice is so smooth after his life of drinking and drugs
Sammy just chillin with the doggy warms my heart
That guitar is sweeeet!
that hum is BRUTAL
"How are ya'?"
"I'm fine. How 'bout you?"
"I'm *DOIN' ALRIGHT* "
*IMMIDIATELY FLASHBACKS TO "BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY" MOVIE MOMENT OF FREDDIE SINGING DOIN' ALRIGHT*
Mmmmmm
Old school meets new. How awesome and impossible for me to have seen is that ?? Thanks man !!
Get Scott Holiday inn from Rival Son's!!
Greta Van Fleet helps to prove once again that Rock N Roll will never die
When Sam gets all excited bc the dog keeps nudging hiiimm!!!!!
Classic Rock Nouveau!! I can't remember the last time I was this excited about hard rock! With all their touring I hope they can find the time to write some new tunes.
That was alot of fun.
One day the band will watch this and talk about everything going on in their lives at this point in time and how it was so new
