I feel like there is an interesting duality between Jak and Veger. Both the characters want to be "heroes". But Jak despite his curmudgeon nature ultimately has humanity's best interests at heart. But Veger although he acts all prim and proper is in it for himself. Jak wants to be a hero so he can save people, Veger wants to be a hero so they'll worship him.
